Poll Question:
POLL: Two Critical Improvements for Heroes 5

Time for yet another challenging weekly HC Poll!

Now Heroes 5 is out. We are full of joy. But something is not right. Something is missing. The game is very good, but it must be very great! *casts hypnotize*

You've just woke up and someone is knocking on the door. You get up lazily, put some clothes on, and open the lock. A strange person in a bright orange suit is standing at your doorway. "We have little time", he says, "the boss is here, and you must talk". Still not quite understanding what's going on you say "But I...". "Don't make me insist" - the man interrupts - "let's go", and motions you outside. He looked pretty serious so you decide to follow. You walk into the driveway and see a... no... can't be... a bright orange limo!? After a few pinches, just to make sure you're quite awake (ouch), you walk up to the limo and the man says "get in". Just as you sit inside the limo you see another strange man sitting opposite to you... wait, he looks familiar... "Fabrice Cambounet" - the man introduces himself with a slight French accent. Ouch! Stop that! You're not dreaming, enough pinches already or you'll bleed! "Fa...Fa...Fab...rice?" is all you can say as you notice that the interior of the limo is also bright orange. "Yes, himself. But let us get to down to business." The limo drives off and you feel both excited and uneasy. "You see", Fabrice continues, "Heroes of Might and Magic 5 has generally been well received, in fact I know exactly why you are having trouble waking up at 10am today."

Business with mind-reading Fabrice Cambounet in an orange limo in the middle of the morning... you don't recall taking any drugs last night... "Attention here please", Fabrice interrupts your thoughts and continues: "We need to make Heroes 5 not good, not great, but absolutely the best." You give Fabrice a nod, still with stupified expression. "Ah, never mind the orange limo, ok? The sales are good, nothing's wrong with a bit of class. Anyway, this is where you come into the story. You see, the Heroes 5 Beta and Demo were designed with a special behaviour tracking software that created a mental profile of each person for us, and thus we were able to find the ultimate HOMM fan, the perfect average, the crystal clear reflection of the HOMM fan consensus. And this fan is sitting right in front of me now." You take a glance to your left, then to your right... nope, noone else there... "Me?" "Yes, you. Just never mind all the Russian technology that went into this. As you are an accurate reflection of our target majority, I will now ask you an important question, and your answer will reflect the opinion of most HOMM fans on the planet."

Suddenly the world took on a different shape, you were at the cause of it, a voice of a million gamers, about to make history, to let the ultimate truth speak through you. "I am ready". It felt as if your whole life was a buildup to this single moment, all different moments of your life being just like pre-requisites for some ultimate heroic skill which you now posessed. "Good", said Fabrice, "so listen carefully, this is the question. There are four major features that we can implement in Heroes 5. We are likely to implement them all, but each takes quite a bit of work, so the order of implementation is crucial. I need you to name the two most important features that need to be added to Heroes 5 now, ASAP, prompto, immediately." You gulp and nod. "The features you must select from are: Map Editor, Random Map Generator, Duel Hero Customisation, Additional Factions. Don't think hard, as your opinion is already perfect as the representation of the fan majority. Just name the two most important features." With absolute certainty you utter words that will influence the course of HOMM history, and right after you've said them, you feel the limo stop. The door is opened for you, you are back in front of your house. Fabrice smiles and says, "Merci. We will do as you say, expect it. But not a word to anyone, ok?" You nod and climb out of the limo that almost smells orange, well actually it does - some kind of orange-scented air freshner. You both wave goodbye and the driver closes the door. The orange limo drives off. You stand there, still wondering whether all of this is for real. Even if you tell someone that Fabrice Cambounet read your mind using Russian technology and took you for a ride in an orange limo and let you decide the course of HOMM history, who in the world is going to believe you? Oh well, might as well go play a duel game or two. Suppose there is only one way to find out if this was for real - to see which two features of HOMM5 will be released first. What was your answer to Fabrice?

Disclaimer: you were induced into this story with a hypnotise spell, it is not actually real, nor is it endorsed by a Heroes 5 developer who's name coincidentally also happens to be Fabrice Cambounet. In fact any similarities of this story with reality are purely coincidental and are a product of your wild imagination. I mean, orange limo... c'mon.

Feel free to explain why you voted the way you did.

without thinking random map generator and additional factions

the amount of maps there is in H5 is disgraceful IMO. a random map generator is needed badly. custom maps are great because they are usually free for all maps. in campaigns its usually you against 3 others and you have strong hero and certain things you must do or else. the great thing about H3 and H4 was range of maps. so many maps to play and in each one you start from scratch. random map generator needed. start working on that today fabrice and dont stop till its perfected.

more factions. who doesnt like more factions??? (you??? well then you dont count)

map editor looks to complicated. few will open it up, let alone the even smaller few that will use it. duel mode. meh, i dont really play H5 for net play

Map Editor, Additional Factions

I voted those because random map generator/duel hero customization are more of multiplayer options and in my opinion it's first best to play the game as single player game and later on turn it into multiplayer fest.

I'm not so interested about the duel anyway so for me it doesn't offer much at least right now. Random map generator requires lot of work to be balanced and I think map editor would offer experienced mapmakers the opportunity to make great maps anyway. What comes to extra factions, I think it's self-explanatory that people want more options to choose from.

Maps, maps, maps.
Random map generator needed most.
Map editor so that those who are able can

IMHO the factions can wait for expansion, if there are plenty of maps to play with the ones we have we will be kept busy enough.  For now

Also Fabrice, speaking of future factions have you ever heard of the ICTC at HC...

it would be perfect to add them all, but the most urgent are the editor and generator

fix the multi-player save to where you dont have to email the save to your opponent if you crash and not complete your turn (same as in H3), need to add checksum to those maps as well to tell if they have been altered in anyway to determine if map is in same condition as original save.

maps go without saying, so the random generator and map editor should be listed as one item IMO.

Map editor, additional factions

I intend to download maps made by other people (which means more maps!) and a little more variety in factions never hurt. If they could get up to Heroes 3's 8 factions (not counting H3AB's Elementals) I would be happy.

I was never a fan of H3's map generator, but the generator for H5 would be appreciated anyway.

I went with Map Editor, Random Map Editor.

Right now those are critical to extending the lifespan of the game.

We already have 6 interesting and very different factions to learn so I'm happy to wait for an expansion pack for an additional faction.

Map Editor, Random Map Generator

bacause this two features are crutial for the whole game. More factions and multiplayer add ons are more like bonuses but this two features are in the basics of the game: Unknown maps and known but very good maps.I'm very bad suprised that there isn't even Map Editor - ferute that exits for sure because how did they create the single player maps.I'm developer and beleve me it is crutial mistake if programmers make the maps and scenarios hard coding.

1.st, most important, absolutely crucial feature: MAP EDITOR
- just look at all the great custom made maps for the previous games. Agreed a map editor might not be the first thing they need to finish, but on the other hand we need to tell them again and again that this is what we want. As you recall, Fabrice mentioned in an earlier interview, that there would be no map editor at all. So if we really want this feature we have to make a little fuss about it I guess.

2. priority: Random map generator

I voted for Map Editor and New Factions but I was a little too fast.
Now my vote would be Map Editor and RMG because of the lack of maps in the game! New Factions can wait for the first Addon.

The Map Editor is the most important thing for shure and I supposed it to be in the game when released!

Voted new faction, random map generator
But having read the thread perhaps a new faction really can wait to an expansion. Needless to say I want one. Or two, or more. Duel mode doesn't interest me, so between random map generator and editor I went for the former because for me it's where I'd go first for a new map, without having to wait for someone else to make one.

I voted:

I voted for Map Editor and Random Map Editor because:
It was always fun to play own maps and to make them, okay , sometimes I've sit on my pc for 4-5 Weeks for one Level, but the most of these levels I did make, they were to easy or to heavy. So needed the Random Map Editor and that's the Best, but although you've got a complete map, you must change things...So i need the Random Map Generator and the Map Editor ;D

map editor and random map generator

The factions will come in the expansion, with stories and campaigns. There is no reason to make noice about them now, but later, before the first expansion.
Duel map might be nice, but this is not by far the reason moast of the fans play heroes.
But maps.... map editor for great talents that the comunities have is the most important thing. Random map gen. is great  only if it is very good. A lot better than h3 one.
In a month we will have nothing to play. We know it and they now it. So they have to do something about that.

Fixes...

Improve the AI!!!

- the computer is VERY stupid.  He won't capture castles and is horrible during combat.  During castle seige, he won't exit or go into the castle, which makes it very easy for shooters to win the game.

Add more maps!!!
- there are way too little maps and not enough variety.

Not all heroes can get special abilities!!!
-allow for receiving of 4 secondary skills or make it possible for these heroes to get the Ultimate skill

i am greatly enjoying this installment of the HoMM series however there are some things i am missing. Besides the lack of a map gen/editor, i would very much like to see a kingdomoverview where you can see your income at a glance. Also i think there are far too few woodmills/orepits. i hope this will be fixed in the first patch aswell as the addition of extra maps.

Random Map Generator and Additional Factions - I don't often do map creation. - Additional factions makes the existing maps last longer and then the random makes the game last forever. I will concede that an editor will be great infact all options should be included.

Map Editor and Addictional Factions, because:
There just isnt a homm game without the map editor.
Addictional factions imo is just a bonus.

Also im deeply annoyed at how little maps their is in the game. Too little to choose from, game wont last long without more maps..
