K maybe I had to many ideas to start with.

What I really want to know is - why are pics of yourself in VERY MODEST - cloths-like underwear 'worse' than a revealing swimsuit?  I just dont get it.  The top in the underwear pic above - female - is a shirt.  There are alot more revealing clothes around...  And boxer's like I said, shorts

Is it the name "underwear" that does it?  I don't get it

I guess it´s because a bikini is a public dress in general, while underwear is (normaly) meant for private places. It´s not a question of "how much does it reveal", coz then we should talk about tangas....which reveal (nearly) everything...
Every human being should decide by its own how they wanna be seen. And i guess it´s a fact women like to be attractive and get noticed by men. Some do it by coloring their face like a painting from Picasso, while others wear sexy clothes. Just a matter of taste...

1. Are photos of underwear more degrading than swimsuits? Men and women explain please.

To expand on what Angelito said. I think it's about suggestion. A bikini is considered public, and underwear are considered private. Even if they reveal the same amount, the underwear "suggest" something private and more personal.

2. Is it degrading to the female species to post pictures of any of these?

I don't think posting or wearing in public is degrading. I think degrading depends entirely on the person who is doing the viewing. Thinking a woman is hot or sexual isn't degrading in my opinion. It's only degrading when that's the ONLY thing they see, without recognizing them as a person also.

2a How does this affect woman’s liberation?

Woman's liberation means a woman can think for herself and make her own decisions. Many of the activist feminists who claim they want liberation are doing nothing more than freeing women from one cage and putting them in another. A cage is a cage.

2c How does this affect the image of men?

I think the image it gives is an image of reality. I mean guys really do kind of like hot women and they're, well, horny. That's just their nature. Would it really take a girl/young woman that much longer to figure this out without the pictures?

3. Are pictures of real people in their underwear or swimsuits any ‘worse’ than the images in The Sexiest Woman thread?

Personally I don't think they should post them. But it's their choice, not mine. I just wonder if anyone considered that those pictures might already be many places besides just at HC.

4. Would you post pics of yourself in any of the above outfits? Why/why not.

Don't know if I'd ever post ANY pics. But if I did, the shorts might be OK, but not the other two.

5. Wonder Woman: What is this outfit? Swimsuit/underwear/other. Comments?

What's it called? It's the Wonder Woman outfit.

About public nudity. I've been skinny dipping with friends, to some nude beaches, and a commune where people ran around nude. Bottom line is, it's not sexy. It's just a bunch of people walking around in their natural state. It's just the human body that everyone has seen before, and it's not presented in a sexy manner. A sexy bikini is designed to accent features and draw attention. If they aren't trying to be sexy, a nude body is just nude. At the commune, the kids ran around nude. When they get older, they probably won't have all the weird hang-ups about sexuality and nudity that a lot of adults have.

1. Are photos of underwear more degrading than swimsuits? Men and women – explain please.

We're already off to a bad start.  There is nothing degrading about posing in skimpy clothing.  I personally prefer my women in thongs so just about everything else seems tame by comparison.

2. Is it degrading to the female species {} to post pictures of any of these? How does this affect woman’s liberation? How does this affect the image of men?

I answered the first part already.  Women's liberation?  Femi-nazis can pack sand.  They're the granola eating, tree-hugging, eco-terrorist, NOW supporting, sasquatches who killed chivalry.  <expletive deleted>'em.  That is...if you can find your way through that jungle.

As for the image of men, how do you mean?  I think most women assume that men have but one thing on their mind besides a sandwich.  If you're speaking of how it might be degrading for a man to pose in a skimpy bathing suit or underwear, please.  If you got it, flaunt it.

3. Are pictures of real people in their underwear or swimsuits any ‘worse’ than the images in The Sexiest Woman thread?

I'm having a hard time putting my finger on the pulse of where you're going with this.  Worse is explicitly negative.  And the images aren't negative to begin with.

4. Would you post pics of yourself in any of the above outfits? Why/why not.

Let me scrounge up a pair of Superman Underoos(preferrably with a modernized boxer-brief as opposed to the traditional) and I'll post my action shots right here and now.  Why?  Because I'm 30+ years old and I'm still sexy, that's why.

5. Wonder Woman: What is this outfit? Swimsuit/underwear/other. Comments?

I think your cropping of the photo does no justice to how wtf zomg! hawt Linda Carter truly was with the matching knee high boots that went along with that sleazy outfit.  Nothing screams, "Bang me for Old Glory's sake" more than that outfit.

Now onto the most offensive portions of the recent events.

Quote:
Why on earth would [someone] do something as stupid as posting a picture of [themselves] in [their] underwear? Not only does it lower [them] to being more of an object than a person…
If you think yourself as a worthwhile person, why would you turn yourself into merely something for guys to jack-off at?
Women's Lib has been trying for decades to make the world see that women are more than brainless sex objects, and you are undoing everything women have worked for for the last hundred years…
Sure, I could take off my clothes and wow all the guys, but does anyone relly want to sink that low? I'm better than that.

I think this little blurb completely shows how immature LadyGuenivere is and how she really should never be taken seriously.  In fact, I would like to propose a motion permanently revoking her ability to post in OSoTM.

The truth is that women are beautiful to look at and they know it.  They know it ever since they turn 13.  There is nothing to be ashamed of in that.  Certain women(younger and older) want to go the extra distance and explore their sexuality and mess around with the power they hold over men.  That's fine.  I'm all for that.

The caveat is that when they do that they lose the right to claim themselves a victim when they receive that kind of attention from both the cats they want and the cats they don't want.  You want to tinker around with your power?  You better learn to use it responsibly.

Personally, I don't think LG has a freaking clue as to what she's talking about.  Unless she's over the age of 25(thanks Violent_Flower) and has had her heart broken(trust me, it wipes away the snootiness real quick) she really has nothing to offer a man.

Women's lib is about being treated as equals.  But you in doing so you don't have to deny sexuality and not celebrate that which makes men and women different.  Women are soft, sensual, glorious, and very much my equal to say the least.  Little girls are like slugs.  God had a reason for making them but I can't figure out for the life of me what it was for.

Meh, looks like Angelito and Binabik are the only ones who remotely agrees with my thoughts.  You show something that's meant to be private, you're saying, "look at stuff that only family, close friends, and bf/gf are supposed to see!"  When you show swimwear, it's more like, "look at stuff other strangers get to see because they live in my area!"  Okay, so neither sounds that great, but the basic idea clearly different.

The whole problem I believe comes from this mysterious "they" who exist to govern our thinking. They tell us what is politically correct, and for whatever reason we are expected to follow them like obediant little puppies. They say that undies are bad, but bathing suits are okay - therefore that's how we're supposed to feel about it.

The big concern I have is that their list of don'ts gets longer every second. Political correctness is killing freedom of expression in just about every way, how we speak, what we wear... everything. Eventually we'll all just be robots - but that's a different topic

As for posting photos here, I have no idea what the big deal is. i think it's great for women to feel confident enough about themselves that they don't hide. The only problem that I see that can arise with it is when immature viewers decide to harrass that person about it.

I really don't understand why women find it degrading, unless the photo has a caption that says "this is all that I am, and nothing more" what on earth is degrading? Women are beautiful, and should be proud of themselves - boys are too - to say that a shot of a woman or man is somehow degrading baffles me. Obviously I am not referring to lewd and explicit pornography... but a simple photo of anyone nude or partially nude can never be degrading IMO

If Trixie's pics are soft porn, then I guess mainstream Reality TV shows such as Temptation Island or Big Brother are porn by your standards ?

Then put me in jail. Cause I actually watch every now and then what is called hardcore porn by my standards...
By yours, it would undoubtedly be a first degree crime if you had even a remote idea what porn actually is.

Sure, Acu. And I'm all for comforting her for it. But not at the price of not warning her when she drifts away from common sense because of her bad experiences ! Quite the opposite : I thin especially those liking her should try and help her seeing things in full color mode again. And first step is to have the reflex of "beep!ing" her whenever she's obviously on black & white mode.

I see the point LG is making and I understand it. I just think she takes it too far.

It seems to me the feminist movement contradicts itself. In the 60s and 70s women would take off their bra and burn it in protest. For a different reason they would remove their tops in public as a protest. The burning of bras said they didn't want to be exploited as sex objects. Going topless said they were women and not ashamed of their bodies. They protested against victorian ideas that a woman had to hide herself. They protested victorian ideas that women weren't supposed to enjoy sex. Women were supposed to free themselves from those victorian bonds and explore their own sensuality. If men could enjoy their bodies, why couldn't women?

So why is it that now they want to wrap women from head to foot? Isn't that going backwards? Isn't that going back to the days when women weren't supposed to acknowledge their own bodies? Is it posible women can have both? Is it posible women can have brains and think, yet not be ashamed of what they are?

What do you want LG? This may not sound related, but it is. Do you want to go back to the days when a young unmarried woman got pregnant, and her parents packed her bags in the middle of the night, and snuck her away to some dreary institution, where she was forced to wait alone until her time, where she was forced to have her baby alone, where her baby would be taken from her against her will, where she would never even see or hold her baby, then she returns home, where she cries in her room at night, she cries alone because her parents wouldn't talk about it, and she didn't dare tell anyone else, because it's "over with" and never even happened? Is that what you want?

I used to hang out in an adoption forum. I can't begin to understand all they went through, but for the women who went through that, it is never "over with". After 50 years they are still searching for their baby. Why? Why did they have to go through that? Why are they still paying for it?

What about the young pregnant woman who was forced to go to a strange place, where she was pointed down some alley,  where someone waited with a coat hanger or cheap vacuum cleaner, where mother turned her back and covered her ears so she couldn't hear her daughter's sobs or even cries of pain, when it was done mother handed her a towel to clean up her sin, and again she cried alone, it was "over with", it never happened. Is that what you want?

And all for what? Was it because of practical reasons? No, it was because it embarrassed her parents, it shamed them, because their daughter had broken the rules. She had broken the rules society placed on her, she got "that way" because she, oh my god, had s-e-x.

They put their daughters through hell because of shame. And some of them pay the price the rest of their lives.

Is shame and ridicule what you want? It may not seem like it, but shaming a young pregnant woman is no different than shaming a woman for the way she dresses and presents herself. It's saying to her that she can't think for herself. It's not about liberation, it's all about rules. It makes no difference who makes the rules, whether it's the church or a group of feminists. And if they choose to follow the church, it should be because they CHOOSE to follow the church, not because they are shamed into it. If they choose to follow the ideals of feminism, it should be because they CHOOSE to follow them, not out of shame or presure. And if they choose to show their bodies in public.....well you get idea.

You deserve a handful of negative qp's for posting that link. I can't remember the last time I saw such awful clothing . . . wait yes I have . . . it was on prison inmates, nuns, and 17th century Quaker fundamentalists who enjoyed a hearty witch trial or two(the kind of trial that may or may not have resulted in the ritualistic conflagration of the local closest village cindarella).

Thankyou FriendofGunnar. May all your condoms be filled with sand from this day forward! Curse you! A plague on both your houses!
