Best Necro heroe

I've just been wondering what hero everyone uses when they play Necro..I prefer Kaspar, Its just his first aid tent skill is really useful when it comes to keeping your stacks alive.

Some ppl like to fool around with lucrecia or vladmir but they are nothing compared to kaspar's powerful start imo.

For larger maps I like Naadir, as he starts with both of the magic schools that necro specialize in, and his special, while not uber, can be real annoying, especially fun against phantom force fanatics. But for smaller maps Kaspar is definetily the best. About only thing that I like about Vladimir is that he can get haunted mines really early, as you are likely to get raise dead from your mage guild anyway, so half of the time his special is just few extra spellpower to raise dead.

I haven't got any experience with Kaspar, although he might do very well early game I'd hate my hero-specialty to be worthless against a human player late game since the tent can be destroyed VERY easily and without there being a way to restore it until after the battle. And this even wouldn't bother me so much but... a skill slot is used for basic war machines. That kills me... I like to get 1) Summoning and 2) Dark magic, 3) Sorcery 4) Logistics and 5) luck. I don't really need to have these precise skills but... swapping one for basic war machines just isn't my cup of tea.

Deirdre could be interesting but her specialty doesn't seem to grow with your hero, only get stuk at -2 morale -2 luck and -10 (?) initiative. I can imagine it not growing much (I imagine a -3 morale and -3 luck at level 20 being enormously overpowered) but the way it is now still is a shame to me. However, if you get this bonus combined with Death Man's curse and maybe an artifact with -2 luck (forgot the name, but a certain ring does that) makes this very interesting. That's only if if if... but still the possibility is nice and it isn't that rare to accomplish.

I used Vladimir all the time because you're made sure to have the 'raise dead' spell which is also handy early-game. But right now I'd like to experiment with Lucretia, increasing the vamps ability ro resurrect themselves and getting killed less easy might prove very powerful. Bad early game, though...

Btw does anyone know which necro here gets leadership -> diplomacy -> recruitment -> herald of death the quikest? Vladimir isn't keen on learning this skill and since it's only worthwile early game it's useless for him. But other hero's might get there quiker (although a necromancer with leadership is quite.... unheard of).

vladimir in my opinon is the best hero... raise dead overpowered and gets alot of spell power and raise dead for the start of the game is very useful tho

Vladimir I say. His start is good enough. Sure first week kaspar looses a couple off skellies less. Maybe 10-20?? and some zombies more (who cares about 10-20 skellis and a couple of zombies?). Also if you get eternal servitude early you dont need to use raise dead more then one time without loosing any units in many battles. After first week haunted mines just makes you gain more units then you lost by not choosing kaspar. You can easely get this skill before you start getting the 4 resource mines. Only that gives you 40 more ghosts.
You have 10-20 skellies and 10-20 zombies in one hand in the other 40 ghosts. What do you choose? 40 ghosts = about as many ghosts as you would get the first month. Naturally if theres more mines about you will get even more ghosts.

Also If you dont get raised dead in guild you can get enlightment and teach other heroes the spell.

Vladimir is your man!

To have or not to have raise dead is such a huge difference in the end battle that I wouldn't recommend taking any chances.  With Vlad it's guaranteed.

Seriously the ability of raising like 10 wights per turn is so powerful that it goes without saying

Zoltan will beat Vladimir in a large battle anyday. You only get to cast that raise dead once.

You don't know that for sure since Zoltan has a % chance to block your spell. It doesn't necessarily block your spell. Besides that, with Vladimir you'll get a nice early game which sucks for Zoltan. Thus Vladimir will lose less creatures and take mines sooner. Therefore his army will be much stronger. You have to take things like that in effect too

Zoltan I tried once, didnt manage to block my friends resurrection the first 3-4 times he used it. Maybe I was unlucky?

Resurrection is level 5 spell so it is hard to block. Raise dead is only level 2 so it is very easy to block.

I would take Kaspar over Vlad if you can get Raise Dead; however, if you can't get Raise Dead you're out of luck with Kaspar because the tent only "heals" three times, whereas Raise Dead can work until you run out of mana.  G  (-:

Getting Raise Dead is not a guarantee in your town.  So, I would save the game before you start and check to see if the town has Raise Dead and then reload.

Fortunatley necros are offerd enlightment very often something I strongly recommend. Getting lord of the undead ability gives + 1 knowledge. Suits vladimir excellent as the requiremnt for this is scholar. This gives you atleast 30 mana with intelligence. Hopefull with enlightment you will get more Knowledge aswell.

Resurrection is a level 5 spell and harder to block. Level 2 spells get blocked a lot easier.

you'll have almost 1 animate dead / turn , which is enough in most cases ... because the mana regeneration is nice right now ... and when you get the second point in knowledge, he becomes really strong. Especially if you get expert summoning fast! So you should get Expert Summoning & Expert Necromancy with him first and then you are good to go.

Yeah, mana can be a problem for Vladimir, but most of the time you'll manage just fine. Sometimes I go back to my town (mage guild level 1 early game) to replenish spell points but quite often there are wells or maybe a +1 knowledge shrine (or something like that) in the neighbourhood.
