Poll Question:
H3 Dungeon or H5 Dungeon?

Which Dungeon do you prefer, H3 Dungeon or H5 Dungeon?
The question is related to the whole faction: the creatures, the town, the race, the hero's, etc.

Personaly, I prefer H3 Dungeon. Much more interesting, variety, and creative then H5 dungeon.
The whole idea of Dark Elves is less interesting then "mutations" race.
H5 Dungeon town is cool, the whole thing that the buildings are on the dripstones, but what the huge woman has to do with Dungeon? H3 Dungeon really looks like a Dungeon, and the whole town is much more interesting and colourful.

I prefer H3 dungeon. Beholder where one of my favourite unites. Also Dark Elves look as if they were drawn by  draftsperson, who makes manga...
The only thing, which I like with Dark Elves are nude women sculptured on most of buildings...

It's a matter of taste really. Dungeon lost some units or changed some into a weaker version of themselves but on the other hand it gained a more complex gameplay with more tactics and a completely different theme(well, mostly).

From the old dungeon I miss:

The medusas. D'uh! I loved their design and stone gaze-I still remember them from the RoE cinematic!

The old minotaurs. They simply were awesome, in style, damage, stats, speed. You could feel their power!

The good old black dragons with the 300 hp! The new version is better designed but it doesn't feel as powerful as before and can be hurt through irresistible magic. Not that I have a problem with that as balance demands it though I'd rather it didn't.

The fact that warlocks would gain 45% power, 35% knowledge! Or was it 50-30? I hate starting with 1 knowledge and gaining 1 more once in a while even if my abilities help with that.

The ability to learn mass spells and resurrection! Though that could apply to all factions but I thought I'd add it anyway!

Oh and the mana vortex along with the creature portal. Simply amazing.

What I like most in the H5 one:

The furies. No comment!

The hydras' return. Somehow that makes me glad.

The grim raiders when amassed for a final battle!

The attack focus along with the spellpower which makes destructive a way of protection for your creatures. Kill with clean blows and destroy with magical blasts!

The elemental vision concept. I loved the elemental chains but still like what remained.

The possibility of lucky spells! I'm glad they included that one!

Ability to build up mage guild FAST and the destructive masteries. It is something you enjoy and has a distinct feel.

I am unsure what I like most as they are both cool in their own way. I can't really compare them with the direction they took but in the future I'd like some changes. As of H6 of course as I'm bound to enjoy this one for a while!

Ouch.

Well, the heroes3 dungeon was a bit overlooked in terms of strength.. it was a rather mediocre one, in fact. But the spells were something different there, and apart from implo, you could also launch ressurection, dragogeddon, frenzy... H5 warlocks are quite limited to implosion, meteor shower and perhaps chain lightning.. bah.

The creature design is much better in h5. Sure, I miss the old, powerful and good looking minos, but Black Dragons are sweet, and the furies/witches are really nice to look at. Especially the way they move their hips when walking or running

To make a perfect dungeon, we'd need to connect the h2 dungeon army power, the h3 hero spellpower and h5 looks and feats (like warlock's luck). But that would be obviously a bigger joke than even 1.00 klaus was.

Well, sad to say it , I can't let go of HoMM3... the worst bummers about HoMM5 is: Minos! where is the brutal, fast and great beings, they are lost in weird sence of weakness... Black dragons are to me not strong enough, though they still hurt a bit...

But else we got a more spell focusing town, in HoMM3 you could manage with out, almost...

Oh please come back Beholders + hero for them... Great combo

H3 dungeon

In H3 dungeon was my favourite town. The creatures had a great design, some heroes were nice, too. (I don't want to list everything here right now I'm tired ;P)

Nice post as usual, Elvin.

I don't feel the Heroes 3 and 5 Dungeons are very comparable in terms of creatures - after all, there are only two creatures from the Heroes 3 Dungeon that remains in Heroes 5.

I like the new way of making the factions, and that's obviously a plus for me in the H5D. That being said, the H3D had a nice line-up, although I never cared much for the Manticore as a creature (from a purely esthetical viewpoint it seems too randomly mixed). I generally like the new Dungeon concept of irresistable magic and focus on Destructive magic, but the Mana Vortex would definitely work wonders.

However, I vote H5D for one reason: The idea of superior (for the level) creatures combined with low growth works very well with Dungeon, because it's a nice combo with Destructive Magic and makes up for the fact that the faction is weak in terms of shooters and flyers. The H3D had too many lousy units - Troglodytes simply were lousy, Harpies did too little damage, Minotaurs were too vulnerable towards slow spell and ranged units in general, Scorpicores had too few HP - and I think the H5 units pretty much all make up for these disadvantages.

No Comparison Whatsoever!

In my opinion, the Heroes 5 Dungeon just plain STINKS! Five of the seven creatures are Dark Elves. Boy, that must have taken some thoughtful creativity. The only original thing in the H5 Dungeon is that the Hero & the Grim Raider ride a Lizard.

Even the whole concept of the H5 Dungeon is not original, as it was lifted from previous Heroes games but given a more pornographic facade. I hate the Dungeon Town in Heroes 5 It's my least favorite, which is saying a lot considering that I'm not too fond of the Inferno or Necropolis either. But the Dungeon is my most detested town.

Nival couldn't even get the special ability for the Dungeon Heroes right either. What is with those worthless Elemental Chains? In all the times I've played with a Dungeon Hero (by necessity only in the Campaigns) I have never used the Elemental Chains special ability.

Disadvantages:

1. Too many elves
2. I hate elves
3. The Heroes 5 Conception for Dungeon sucks...
4. Why we need more elves? The Dark elves are not in the mythology, and only in some books and in no movies, only in World of Warcraft and Heroes 5
5. Why the Hydras, the Dragons and the Minotours are with elves? What a logic, I can't get it! For an example the Griffins with the humans OK but Hydras with elves? This is stupid.
6. H5 Dungeon is really boring, even more than Haven.

Advantages:

--------- Sorry, no advantages

Actually, four... Or three and a half to be exact (grim riders consist of a dark elf and a lizard...) It's still too much though

And in Warhammer (God, how come no one around here has ever even heard of Warhammer?!), and all high-budget rpgs and frps.
Dark elves would be fine if they were made more interesting to play, but they're somehow, as you mentioned, boring. Their low growth ("compensated with the might of units"... yeah right) and racial ability make them way less interesting to play than they should be. But their greatest minus, I think, is that they have the crappiest level 6 in the game. I hate matriarchs. They completely piss me off. In duel mode, Eruine has like 40 of them and matriarchs look powerful because of that. How can you get 40 of them in a real game? If you have less than 10 of them they're utter crap. I'd replace them with something exotic like manticores or even beholders.

Creatures:

lv1 Assasin before Troglobytes! - H5 Surely you don't miss those freaks?

lv2 Harpys before Furies. -H3 Harpies fly over the castle walls

lv3 Minotaurs before Beholders. -H5 Minotaurs is a must have for Dungeon

lv4 Medusa before Rider. -H3 Medusa was nice creature in Heroes 3

lv5 Hydra before Minotaur. -H5 These tanks are really nice! Where is my teleport assault!?

lv6 Manticore before Witches. -H3 Booring. Could be Chimera if Hydras werent allready here.

lv7 Black Dragon -H5 Well Shadow Dragon is not my favorite but H5 Blackies just looks and fell so powerfull

New Warlock hero look whit Lizard rider is good and also town look whit purple lightning is better in H5 Dungeon than in H3 imo.

So my vote goes for H5 Dungeon.

You know it's funny how you say no advantages, implicating you have just cited disadvantages. All your points are a matter of taste and your not grasping why the present lineup is as it is, instead of facts. Not mentioning your prejudice against elves, they have rights too you know!

I'm with you. I HATE elves! Of any kind. Especially those LOTR ones, geeez.. would that Nazghuls killed them all when they had the chance.. >_>

The only elves I liked were.. umm, from some minor fantasy stories and games. But the general concept of annoying-as-hell self-centered over-confident boring tree-huggers just makes me want to hang them all on their beloved trees.   Maybe that's why I hate LOTR, too.

Anyways..

Hey, what's wrong with shadow matriarchs? Sure, when they attack at range they do less damage than a full population of horned overseers. But at least thay have some spells.. and good looks. ;p

I liked H3 Dungeon more, and the biggest reason for that is that Minotaurs OWNED and even took on level 6 enemies in H3, while in H5 they got reduced to WEAK slaves.

Also since H4 fortress was mixed within Dungeon and pretty much killed the whole buzz.

Although Dark Elves seem likely to be in Dungeon, I rather liked it as a monster-town controlled by Minotaur Overlords and Warlocks, not a fully controlled elf-society controlled by Warlocks. Reptiles except for Black Dragons shouldn't be in Dungeon I think.

It's good to see Dungeon still aims mainly for dealing high damage though. But yeah, Minotaurs shouldn't be slaves. They should be the main race controlling Dungeon.
