Stick it in and discover the pleasure

What Hell is This Key For?

My life lately has simply left me alone with my thoughts, which has been a disaster. I have been franticly searching for a new job and my search leave me like a fisherman with no fish, hungry. So I strolled downtown and walked along the sidewalk poking my head into all the cool little shops. An old record store that is ran by a man sporting a long Grey beard with a perch of McDonald’s hamburgers (pot belly that is) to rest his magazine on as he reads. It appears that he had this attachment to them as if they were all his and his desire to allow another to yank them, unaware of there value, out of the sleeve and poke and prod at them was just about enough to make him sick.

Anyway, as my feet brushed the pavement in a lazy fashion my eyes caught something or it caught me. This bright shine that made me squint and was beaming out of this old fogged up glass. I walked closer holding my saluting hand to my forehead and that’s when I seen it, KEYS; Big old ones, small new shiny ones, keys that were waiting for their masters to come and claim them. There stood this old Korean man next to a grinder as if he was the only one in the world that new he was even there. Hundreds of these keys that all caught the sun as it beamed into the window; it was beautiful and calm. The old key master just doing what he loves and not caring about anything except that the next key he finishes will open something.

This is when I started to really think about things and analyze what it is he does. Think about the value that we hold to that key chain and all those shiny pieces of metal. Every morning you wake up and franticly toss your living rooms about to find that over sized fluff ball you have placed on your key ring. It is the key that gets you to and from your job; it is the one thing that assures your children eat. What about the key that unlocks the door to your office, you know the office where you have that steamy love affair once a week with the married boss.

They hold the joy for our first home, the excitement you get from the first time you are handed your very own set of keys. The first car you ever drove; do you remember when you picked up the key to your first car? I do, and I remember the freedom and permanent grin that so stretched my face. The freedom I felt going down the road carelessly swaying over the line and thinking that I knew everything there was to know in life.

They don’t just unlock doors, they unlock memories that hang with us forever. Some of those memories may be the sadness you felt; the day the police held out their hang and gave you your child’s set of keys. You were given the news that they had died in a car crash and among the material items recovered would be that key ring with your sons favorite sport plastered on it, or your daughters most prize cartoon charter. Maybe your girlfriend walked up the stairs to the apartment that you once shared and placed her spare key on the table for you to find with that Dear John letter next it. You knew before even reading the letter that those keys were the symbol of the end of your relationship.

How about the keys to your already taken lovers condo; those keys could be the end of a lot of good things. The one that he got made just for you, oh and maybe just for a few others as well. How many of us have used them as weapons against the ones that we love. Hurdling them across the room at an unprecedented speed to show your dissatisfaction in what they have done.

I started to thumb through my over sized key chain and tried to place memories to all the keys that cluttered it. To my surprise almost every key that I owned had good and bad memories attached to it. The one to my town house that I just moved into signified the end of my six-year relationship, and at the same time branded the beginning of my new one. I had old house keys that all shared their own thoughts and memories to them. Garage keys where I went every night to restore my cars, and hang to have a beer with my friends. I don’t have a garage key anymore, nor a house key of my own, and the few keys that I do have left are signs of my failures, so I took them off and threw them out.

So the key master has all these memories that he is forming and shaping everyday into the metal that would fit firmly into someone’s new remembrances. I wondered while passing by if he really understood the magnitude of every key that he made? I for one felt liberated just throwing the old ones out and making room for the ones to come. I bet if you pick your keys up right now you will find some story funny or sad to share.

Hmm . . .

It's a good thread Violent_Flower. I don't think other people will enjoy it as much as I did. I don't care because I just like it. You know I've been a frequent of the old myspace scene lately. There was one of your friends whom I thought was a dude but turned out to be a woman. Anway her pic really caught my attention so I decided to visit her page. She seems like a person I once knew but never became friends with, so I sent her message and she hasn't replied. I like her blogs and her attitude. She's a family person but also seems to have a buddy buddy about her. She tries to come off as tough but I think she's an old softy. Tayandy is her name. Do you have any keys that tell a story about your friendship with her?

Considering the swath of devastation Tay leaves in her path wherever she goes, I'd say yeah, there's some stories.

Too funny Consis.  Tayandy is V_F's neice.  She's been married to my best friend for the last ten years or so.

Oh?

I just really liked her character. She seems to tell things in a very *cough* honest way. What's her story? She seems like a cool person. Like I said, in her picture, her eyes told me something that I related to. You know . . . been through hell and somehow survived only to come out a firebrand? I mentioned you in my message to her. Her front page said quite a bit about being explicit why you might want to be friends and such. So I gave her the short-end back story of how I knew you and Violent_Flower.

Well . . .

She finally responded to me and I returned her message. She confirms everything you guys have told me and says that you are all good friends with each other. But I have noticed her profile says she lives in the Dakotas. Don't you two live in Chicago? Eh . . . how does that work? And how is her husband your best friend The_Gootch? Was he a marine too?

It is so illuminating to discover what kind of people you all really are like. I never would have guessed it but you all seem like my kind of people. And I really wish our families lived much closer. If that were the case then I could help with childcare! Eh . . . that's sort of my way of proving to my friends just how loyal and comitted I am to a friendship. My three children help me out too. My son (who is currently age 8) has picked up some good fatherly habits. Anyway the reason I'd love to hang out is because in all 5 of the years I've lived here, I haven't really made friends with people to the point where we can simply hang out. My friends here are the conditional kind. If I wanted to hang out with them then I'd be making some kind of sacrifice to do it. That's pressure that I don't need or want. As you know I am from Texas and all the people I grew up with are back there. However since I've been gone for so long it has become a world apart. My thinking today is how to make friends that I can hang out with. Am I making any sense? It doesn't feel that way. Oh well.

Dave a MARINE? Oh God I think that I will fall out of my chair in laughter, are you kidding? He lives with a drill sergeant though.

David (Tays hubby) grew up with The_gootch in Chicago, yeah-street boys from da hood. I was married to Tays uncle (Lance) and we have always been very close, she is my best friend besides Gootchy. Tay and Dave met in Chicago while LARPing, and yes The_Gootch was active in that too. I divorced Tays uncle but we stayed friends and talk all the time. Tay and Dave lived in Chicago and then moved to Sioux Falls SD where they currently reside. Gootch still lives in Chicago and I live one hundred and twenty-five miles south of him. We go and visit Tay and Dave where the world of comedy and drama open up and we indulge in the craziness of their life which makes it easy to come home.

I wish you lived closer as well; it would be great to have the kids together and hang out with no pressure. I find that a lot of my friends in the past have been time consuming and very draining of my schedule. With children there is not a lot of time to just hang out so we must find friends that can compile the children and do family activities together. I have yet to find that where I live and just stay to myself because the process of getting to know people anymore is just disappointing.

So now you have the story and there are many more stories in between that fill spaces with chaos and craziness. I want to make a trip your way as soon as the money and the time become available to us.

Hey

If you want to take 3 or 4 years to plan and save up that's cool with me. I've been talking with my wife about my vacation time and she's adamant that we not go anywhere outside of Oregon due to the current state of flying troubles and heightened paranoia. It was a nightmare last summer when we all went to Texas. Three children plus us, plus a plane full of germ-a-phobes, was not one of my more pleasant experiences. So she says if I want to take a trip outside of Oregon (because I have friends in many different states) then I shall have to do it alone. I don't like the idea of going without my family but I have been considering some options. These are them thus far:

1. Las Vegas, Nevada (Airforce buddy)
2. Salt Lake city, Utah (childhood church buddy)
3. Milwaukee, Wisconsin (old Airforce buddy)
4. Little Rock, Arkansas (old Airforce buddy)

All of my family is back in Texas but I went there last summer. And I might decide not to go if my wife and kids convince me to go with them to Crater Lake. (I really don't wanna go there).

Now about those keys we've been talking about: I have a few myself that I could talk about. Like the one to my truck. I don't have the truck anymore because my wife made me trade it in for a child-apropriate vehicle. But my truck was awesome. The color was pure sweetness. It was red but more than red. I have been known on more than one occasion to liken it to 'candy apple red', but ofcourse it wasn't. I think that was more of a feeling that I got simply by looking at it. It was a darker deeper red with a hint of maroon and these tiny little sparkly particles of metal flakes that made it glitter in the sunlight. It was brand spanking new. I recall walking on to the Nissan car lot and simply pointing with my finger. I said, "I want that one". And I'll never forget the feeling I had when I took my first ride in it. Even before I got inside I was in an argument with the dealer. I didn't feel the need to drive it because it was brand new. But the dealer told me they wouldn't let me leave with it until I had driven in it atleast once. He said it was policy or something. It only had 96 miles on it. It was awesome and I plan to buy another someday.

Anyway there's a story about the key. I had 10 of them made after I locked myself out before I had made a first copy. I was so ashamed of myself that I forced the dealer to make me ten! I remember everyone laughing when I requested it. Everyone present when the guy repeated himself of my request perked up. All the mechanics, maintenance, and sales people burst into laughter. And so I tossed most of the superfluous keys but then later found a few still in my luggage during future moves.

Oh, there is a Tornado Red that has been accented with a slight pearl and then covered with the metallic flake. It was on the Acura and the trucks as well. When in the sunlight it does actually resemble a “candy apple” with the pearl. PPG would be the paint you would want to use to emulate that same color onto your Daddy vehicle. If I come out we could have a bit of a painting party together.  Love the key story thanks for the feedback.

What about Chicago? Would it be acceptable if I came to Chicago? Have I garnered the necessary votes to win the candidacy for The_Gootch's permission? I wouldn't take the trip unless I knew for certain that I'd get to meet him.

Well RSF that is the best part of being on a board like this, I don’t have to have a reason but I will give you one anyway. You are up against several threads being written through out a day on here. In order to get one to stand out I decided that for the most part I would add this element to mine so they would stand out. I could have just said Old Man Makes Keys or My Walk Today. I find that when the men want to on here they can really spark some great debate and they become controversial. Titles such as this will get you pervs to at least open the thread even if it is met with disappointed by the reader. Not to mention it is damn funny.

I couldn't agree more in specific regard to this message board/forum. That is exactly what I have done in the past with my affirmative action thread and others. For example: Everyone has an opinion on abortion so there is no need to use the contraversial title trick. You can simply call it "abortion" and people of all ages and backgrounds will come to it. But on other subjects people might not be so interested such as affirmative action or world war II. There might be only a handful of die-hard fanatics of those subjects but on the whole people don't really care too much about them. And I knew it, thus I applied the controversial title trick to both threads: "Is Affirmative Action Just Another Word For Communism?" --- "WWII: WHO SAVED THE WORLD". If I simply entitled in this way: "Affirmative Action" or "World War Two" then many people would be extremely bored with the title in my opinion. In their stead ... with the use of a contraversial title ... you know for a fact people will flock to it in the hopes to convey just how wrong you are or just how right they are.
