Don't worry, dfortae, with the Duel Preset Editor, it won't matter whether these heroes are balanced or not cuz you'll be making your own

Ok, so after playing MANY MANY duel games, and having a pretty good win record (79% on random), here are the suggestions I'd like to see to balance it out:

Karli
-----
* Make luck 0
* Make morale 0
* Reduce Berzerkers to 30 (from 70)
* Reduce Skirmishers to 70 (from 100)
* Reduce magic resistance by 30%
* Make rune of battle rage (hit multiple enemies) only be able to activate after at least 10% of units have died

Sinitar
-------
* Increase mana by 30
* Give him an artifact that reduces enemy luck and morale by 2
* Remove assassins and replace with 50 upgraded minotaur

Eruina
------
* Give her 30% magic resistance
* Increase chance of her special ability (witches firing shots on spell cast) by 25%

Lethos
------
* Make morale 0 (instead of -1)
* Increase mana by 20
* Give him some special artifact to make him immune to Curse of the Netherworld
* Increase his special decay ability.  Make it always hit at least 4 (cannot resist) and up to 6

Galib
-----
* Give him 2 stacks of 12 Rakshasa instead of 1 stack of 18
* Make his initiative be 2 times faster after casting Counterspell

Jhora
-----
* Reduce her mana by 30
* Reduce Obsidian Gargoyles to 75 from 120
* Reduce Archmages to 45 from 60

Razzak
------
* Reduce morale by 2
* Cut gremlins in half (150 instead of 300), but give 5 Rakshasa
* Take away Ballista

Deirdre
-------
* Give her an artifact that reduces enemy luck by 2
* Give her Expert Light instead of Advanced Light Magic
* Make her Banshee Howl affect ALL units (including summoned) except undead

Anwen
-----
* Increase her Attack by 3 (to make it 9)
* Increase Spellpower by 3 to make it 5 (for Imbue Arrow)
* Increase Wardancers to 150 from 100
* Convert Ancient Treants to regular Treants, but increase their number from 10 to 18 (this is to help prevent heroes from being able to slaughter the treants with their attack so easily toward the end of the duel)

Ossir
-----
* Decrease knowledge by 3
* Convert Master Hunters to regular Hunters, but increase their count to 100 (from 80).  This is mainly to help eliminate warding arrow abuse with this hero

Nymus
-----
* Reduce luck by 3 (to make it 2).  This reduces his usefulness as he gates in more and more units.
* Convert Cereberus to unupgraded dogs, but increase count to 120 (from 60).  This will affect long term battles (make them weaker).
* Give him a Tent
* Increase 1st round initiative by 15% (so his units can gate/act more quickly).  This is so he will be stronger in 1v1 but not such a great boost to affect long term battles.
* Increase Familiars to 150 (from 100)

Helmar
------
* Increase knowledge by 2
* Increase magic resistance by 30%
* Make immune to Cleansing, runes that steal abilities, etc.

Ebba
----
* Make luck 0 (instead of 2)
* Get rid of 40 regular bear riders
* Increase Shieldguards to 200 from 100

Irina
-----
* Remove morale bonus from Battle Dive (applies to all heroes)
* Increase Conscripts to 250 from 200

Klaus
-----
* Increase Inquisitors to 25 from 12

Marbas
------
* Increase Magic Resistance by 15%
* Reduce knowledge by 4
* Increase luck by 2

Deleb
-----
* Reduce Cerberus to 50 from 80
* Make morale 0 (instead of 2)

Dirael
------
* Increase Mana Burst damage from 150 to 350
* Reduce mana cost of Summon Elementals to 8 (from 17).  Increase creatures summoned by 25%.  Increase initiative of hero after casting Summon Elementals by 50% (to recover quicker).
* Increase Spellpower by 2 (to make it 10 instead of 8)
* Give 1 more favored enemy (3 instead of 2)

That's all I can think of.  I think that would balance things VERY nicely from my experiences.

You're probably right.  They should still balance it though because it would only take them like a day!  At least nerf Karli...

Yeah, I'm worried about that though.  How in the heck could they make THAT balanced?!?  I want to be able to play others online and not have to worry about abuses.  But I guess we'll just wait and see how it works.  I'll be very surprised if that doesn't lead to even bigger imbalances (I hope I'm wrong though!)...

Max luck 0 will make no sense as karli starts with luck in normal game. Max morale 0 is unreachable within game mechanics. The suggestion about the rune is as well weird since in normal game it will be a serious nerf, and you can't have different mechanics for duel heroes and 'normal' gameplay. Otherwise ok, but he would have to gain something for the loss of two magic res abilities. Nerfing army is the only way here.

I got an impression that you are willing to change game mechanics for particular heroes only, while retain it for other as it is. Such ideas suck for me(f.eg why only Dirael should have increased mana burst damage? And if all have it, it could prove abusive in normal game).

Bear in mind that 'normal' game is the basis of HoMM 5 and duels share it's full mechanics. Mechanics should not be changed to satisfy duels' needs ONLY.

I get what you are saying dfortae and if there is a person that I trust he knows what he's doing with duels it's you. But changing the mechanics for duels only sounds impractical. I'd go with changing skills, army and artifacts only.

I would like to suggest that you should be allowed to split/join stacks during the tactics phase, as long as you don't exceed 7 stacks deployed. This is mostly just becasue I think it would allow me to skip a bit of micro-managing in terms of trading stacks that I don't need to another hero to get more 1s as blockers/retal stealers - splitting my stacks repeatedly doesn't really add to the game, it just irritates me.

You CAN split/join stacks during tactics phase - even in duel mode - you operate on them like on stacks in town or so on the bar in the lower part of screen - you can split them by holding shift or join them simply by drag-n-drop method.

OMG... lol. I tried splitting them, but I guess it was when they were placed on the field.... Thanks for the info anyway. And I wasted all that time with secondary heroes to carry my fricken troops.

My guess is that they're going to give you some money (and resourses) and a blank hero who is lvl 15 and you'll give him some skills(artifacts and magic) and buy him an army.

My only wish I can think of in this moment is another Dread Knight. Altough the one from heroes 3 is 2D it looks a hell of a lot better than the one used in heroes 5. The H5 knight

For Heroes:

Sometimes I am thinking about, what was better: having a hero, that can move, attack and cast spell ON the battlefield as a single "creature or is it better now in HOMM V: Heroes just standing behind their troops and command them, they use spells, sometimes they attack an enemy unit alone. If the battlefield would a bit bigger, I would say, that heroes should return as totally members of the combats.
I'd love to see heroes with different appearance. The idea that every hero has the same appearance is a bit boring to me. I miss that to, that they don't speak (or because of the combat), they don't shout.

For spells:

Look at my thread "Comparison of Spell Effects" and you'll understand what I want to explain here. I think new spells can be invented, too, because we will would have always with a new addon new creatures, new heroes, new buildings but no extra new spells. I miss that very much. Perhaps for that "spells" that haven't got any effect, should someone create one.

For buildings:

It was great to have the caravan back. You know that makes the game more pleasant and quick. You shouldn't now go every week to your captured dwellings, it's enough that you can buy and send them to your town, because you'll have to get all of your creatures only at once per week. From here I miss the prison. I invented a new idea for the prison: whenever you defeat an enemy hero, after the battle, the game asks you, if you wish to kill or put into prison the enemy hero or mage. You have the choice! Of course, if your town will be captured, the heroes will be free. I could be some additional buildings that sells you spells...perhaps.

For creatures:

I think everyone of you has a favourite from the HOMM world, that are currently not available. I want to see my Cyclops back! I know this is the hardest thing, but still there are many-many creatures, I'd like to see them again.

like the naga or the mighty gorgon( swamp castle if possible), lizardmen, basilisk , centaur(archer if possible), pegasus etc. That's my dream.
