Flat Earth Society

Ok apparently there are such crazy people out there.
Here is their website

Check out their achievements.
Man even Aristotle already back in his day proved Earth as a sphere.

Trogdor maybe you should read some of what they have to say.

I am currently reading it, and it is quite interesting, and makes me think

In actually reading some of that website, I'm pretty sure its fake..

However the Flat Earth Society is real, and some guy did like 40 years of study on it.
They did tests showing that there is no curvature of large bodies of water, which there supposedly should be on a curved earth.

And that the Nile flows like a thousand kilometers while only dropping in height about a foot.

I think they're forgetting that its all in relation to the centre of gravity, not to a fixed point in space..
and what about when it turns night on one side of the world, and day on the other?

and satellite images? lol

there is such small evidence (if that) for it, but such overwhelming evidence against.

It's not even a question, is it?

I think the disclaimer at the bottom of the page which states...

'Nor is the Flat Earth Society responsible for the recent yeti sightings outside the Vatican, or for the unfortunate enslavement of the Nabisco Inc. factory employees by a rogue hamster insurrectionist group'

Pretty much sums it up... FAKE

Space-time is a curvature. The 'form' of the universe may be a curvature as well (yeah that means Pythagorean theorem is not valid for too large measurements).

So in that context, the earth might be flat on the 'surface' of the hyperbola/whatever (it is a hyperbola because it is accelerating as recent studies have suggested, therefore it isn't slowing down --> not closed geometry).

So you see, it doesn't matter at all, science is not precise.

Some guys (99%) will argue it's round.
Other guys (scientists as well btw ) will argue it's flat.

Contradicting evidence? if science were precise that wouldn't exist. Therefore our views are flawed. The Earth might be flat after all as a surface on that curved space-time

Now we need to find out if it's the center of the world. Oh yeah I forgot, it already is in relativity

Well there must be an explanation because its clearly not flat.

Like I said, it's clearly for you it's round. Just like in relativity, it's clearly for you time passes 'normal', but from another frame of reference, it's different.

If we are on a curved space-time, then we of course, will see the 'things' on it (surfaces, etc) relative as well.

EDIT: But from a 'global' point of view (i.e from where you 'see' the curved universe, of course it's a place without spacetime), it might be flat.

I meant that if you go out to space and look back its a 3D sphere.

And relative to the space-time continuum you could argue that the earth is not only everywhere and nowhere at the same time, but also an oblongular prism

Think of it as a 'projection' on a curved surface.
You can for example, project a sphere on a plane (or a plane on a sphere). It's a bit harder for curved surfaces, but when you also project time along with space, you might get that 3D effect (because your 'frame of reference' is also projected as well, since you are in the hyperbola Universe of course).

I'm not sure what they mean about the Nile though.

I wonder, if they went to the lower nile (in the North), where it is 1 foot lower

then got another person to go to the upper nile and position a reciever in line (lat/longitude etc) with the other person who has a laser type transmitter thing

then raise the laser like 2 feet or so above the ground and shoot it at the transmitter, and if its flat it should reach, if its not it will hit the curve of the earth, no?

I wonder if they've done that or if they just mean 1 foot compared to the gravitational pull of the earth (sea level), which obviously has nothing to do with it..

To be honest I haven't read the link (yeah should be ashamed)

but I have seen the posts and they weren't about the spacetime curvature so I presented my 'theory'.

also I really need to read it to get an impression of what you're talking about

yes yes

the link given above is obviously a fake, i was talking about the official forums however... the guys there seem to be half blind (or maybe half baked?) Christians (not to be confused with christians that are normal people, simply believing in the abrahamic god in the trinity form) that i could easily see trying to stop people from teaching evolution in schools, claiming it has no evidence

depends on what do you understand by "evolution". As a ex-student of biology I can tell you that many scientists think that the theory of humanity originating from apes is just ridiculous as there is completely no evidence and no intermediate forms between humans and apes have been found. I think the same

I wonder why they found skeletons/bones of dinosaurs which are older than any "human" corpse they found so far (by million years). You won't tell me Adam was a dinosaur, will you?
