Baklava,

It sounds like you are beginning to understand something many people refer to as "harsh reality". Let's talk about war.
Quote:
But that's as if you said that what the Japanese did was not wrong because they just helped other members of the Tripartite Pact. When you attack someone, you attack someone. Whether what you did was good or bad, it was technically an attack on a sovereign country.

Look at this. Look at what you wrote. What an excellent example this is. How young are you? Even you, a young person, can see the truth. Nations make deals and sign contracts often! But as you, even someone so young and not yet fully aware of the world....even you can clearly see that those agreements (no matter how legal and binding) do NOT give them the right to make war upon each other.

In an almost completely illogical way made to appear as fully founded logic countries sometimes justify war upon each other over and over again. But it isn't logical or scientific or right is it! War is not justifiable! In defense of one's nationhood is justified is it not? Do you see how it all looks now? By the logic that people often preach and profess: Defense is the only acceptable reason to go to war. But what if the attacking country is three times bigger and richer? What if the smaller country can't win? What then? Is it fair?

How do you think the world should deal with wars? What should each country do if attacked?

This most recent Iraq invasion was a preemptive assault.

Against what? Saddam would declare war on you? Not likely.
Quote:
North Korea?  Nope.  They invaded the South.

GOD, where's the roll-eyes smiley
Quote:
Yugoslavia?  You mean Serbia I'm guessing.

No, I mean, Yugoslavia, because that was the country's name at the time.
Quote:
Nasty bit of ethnic cleansing got the attention of the civilized world.

Funny how Croatian ethnic cleansing never got that attention.
Or Albanian. About 50 years ago, Serbs were about 60-70% of population in Kosovo. Now, we're, what, 10? 20? At most. Does it seem RATIONAL to you that after ethnic cleansing that only WE supposedly did, our percentage falls for about 50%? PLUS that our population there today is forced to live in ghettos as second class citizens? Oh, sorry, Albanians didn't mention that, so it's not true, right?
PS I was there, I know what I am talking about.

Quote:
This is the second reference to me being a Republican.

Nope. Didn't say you're a republican. That was a completely unrelated republican pun lol. And Clinton was a "democrat" so it doesn't really matter.

Quote:
Yet here you are trying to lecture me about what technically constitutes an invasion when it was you who failed to grasp what the senator was talking about.

Not really. We might even dwell in further history, just for the hell of it. For example wars with Spain, or Mexico. But let's not do that.
Actually it was you who failed to grasp what I was talking about, but very well. Since I don't really give a crap about that, it doesn't matter.

Quote:
Would you have preferred a land invasion that would have been far more ruinous to your country just to say that at least your guys were able to take a few our scalps?

1) I'd prefer no invasion at all, air or land
2) You have no idea how fanatic my people can get when defending. Plus the terrain... You would face a second Vietnam here. Of course it would be ruinous for my country, but most don't think about it that way.

Quote:
Civilian casualties are a terrible and unfortunate side effect of war.  Please maintain the focus though.

Ah. Sorry. Yes, civilians, lol, that's not the focus, who cares about them.
Imagine your house is blown off by a bomb and someone says you are an unfortunate side effect.

Quote:
Why was NATO bombing your country in the first place?

Because it was in USA interests. By attacking Milosevic's somewhat anti-western regime, you would get full support of Albania, and another vassal in Europe, especially Balkans, is always useful (along with Croatia and Bosnia).

Quote:
Not humiliating.  Records indicate the Serbs downed one.  Downing one of the F-117s showed a terrific kind of adaptation to a superior technology.  Congratulations on having at least something to stick into a museum besides the bullet that got Ferdinand.

One day you might even realise that there are some people out there who have something non-military related to put in a museum. Some people have different understandings of peace than achieving it through war.
My people have a MUCH longer, MUCH more ancient and MUCH more gracious history to boast with than yours. So do not draw museums in this. For your sake.

Quote:
My country does tend to lead these things, doesn't it?

...

Quote:
There wasn't any ass-kissing.

Yes, as all the people who protested in USA, France, England, Greece, China, Japan, Australia, even Vietnam etc. against the bombing can witness.
The people are innocent, even cool. Governments however DID kiss asses. As usual.

Can we now PLEASE STOP with this entire silly conversation? I am always going to defend my views, you are dragged into that too, so you'll always respond with new... well, either senseless stuff or simply repeating things I've already answered, so... it's best if we pull this back. This thread is an especially inappropriate place for this.

EDIT:
Btw hey, Consis took me serious! Pwnage...

I'm sorry our discussion led the thread to a different direction

EXACTLY!!!!

This thread was supposed to be funny. And it really was funny. There's been way too much "bad vibes" around her lately and humor is a fantastic cure what ails us.

But you can't keep your damn mouth shut can you? You have to toss in your shots at America (or whatever) every chance you get, even when it doesn't have a damn thing to do with the thread. Yes, you are smart and know some things about the world. But you're also a smart-ass punk kid.

So you've been through some crap in your life. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Nobody should have to go through that sort of thing. But you have two choices. 1) Get over it. or 2) Carry that anger and hatred with you the rest of your life.

With the first choice you have some hope of happiness and maybe even a productive life making an impact on the world. The second choice will eat you from the inside over the years and you will turn into a bitter old man that nobody wants to be around...except maybe other bitter old men. It's like smoking, either you quit or you smoke the rest of your life. The sooner you quit, the easier it is.

You need to learn that you're not the only smart person in the world. More importantly, you need to learn that even a person with an IQ of 70 has something to teach you, or that they could be right and you could be wrong. You are way too fond of saying you need to "explain" things to people, as if you are the only person who "knows" anything. Live in the world a few more decades and I guarantee you will have different views and interpretations of things....unless maybe you choose that path of bitterness and cynicism.

So you have a head on your shoulders. Lots of people do, but most don't know how to use it. There are people all around you whom you can learn from. Yes, you should make your own decisions. And yes, if you really believe you are right, you should stick to your belief and not let others make you doubt yourself. But on the other hand, how confident can you really be unless you accept that others may know more than you, or that you could be wrong, and very often WILL be wrong? Over the years you will have been proven wrong so many times you just accept it. That knowledge doesn't weaken your beliefs, it strengthens them.

Am I doing exactly what I'm accusing you of? Yep, I'm "explaining" things you probably already know. It's called driving the point home. Get over it.

And regardless of how it affects your own life, knock off all the snide remarks that don't belong. It pisses people off. This should have been a funny light-hearted thread, but you had to ruin it because you just can't keep your damn mouth shut. And I sure don't blame Gootch for calling you on it, it should have been done long ago.

Here's a more interesting story...

It's no really a funny - but I found it fascinating.

Originally from ABC Local Here's the copy of the story

Quote:
July 26, 2007 (PROVIDENCE, R.I.) -

Dogs can sometimes predict an epileptic owner's seizure or sniff at an owner's mole, signaling a possible cancer.

Now, it appears a cat can predict the deaths of patients in a nursing home.
When Oscar curls up on a patient's bed and stays there, the staff knows it's time to call the family. It usually means the patient has less than four hours to live.

The feline's accuracy has been observed in 25 cases at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

"He doesn't make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die," Dr. David Dosa said in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

"Many family members take some solace from it. They appreciate the companionship that the cat provides for their dying loved one," said Dosa, a geriatrician and assistant professor of medicine at Brown University.

The 2-year-old Oscar was adopted as a kitten and grew up in a third-floor dementia unit at Steere House, which treats people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and other illnesses.

After about six months, the staff noticed the cat would make his own rounds, just like the doctors and nurses. He'd sniff and observe patients, and those he stayed with would wind up dying in a few hours.

Dosa said Oscar seems to take his work seriously and is generally aloof. "This is not a cat that's friendly to people," he said.

Oscar is better at predicting death than the people who work there, said Dr. Joan Teno of Brown University, who treats patients at the nursing home and is an expert on care for the terminally ill.

She was convinced of Oscar's talent when he made his 13th correct call. While observing one patient, Teno said she noticed the woman wasn't eating, was breathing with difficulty and that her legs had a bluish tinge, signs that often mean death is near.

Oscar wouldn't stay inside the room though, so Teno thought his streak was broken. Instead, it turned out the doctor's prediction was roughly 10 hours too early. Sure enough, during the patient's final two hours, nurses told Teno that Oscar joined the woman at her bedside.

Doctors say most of the people who get a visit from the sweet-faced, gray-and-white cat are so ill they probably don't know he's there, so patients aren't aware he's a harbinger of death. Most families are grateful for the advanced warning, although one wanted Oscar out of the room while a family member died. When Oscar is put outside, he paces and meows his displeasure.

No one's certain if Oscar's behavior is scientifically significant or points to a cause. Teno wonders if the cat notices telltale scents or reads something into the behavior of the nurses who raised him.

Nicholas Dodman, who directs an animal behavioral clinic at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and has read Dosa's article, said the only way to know is to carefully document how Oscar divides his time between the living and dying.

If Oscar really is a furry grim reaper, it's also possible his behavior could be driven by self-centered pleasures like a heated blanket placed on a dying person, Dodman said.

Nursing home staffers aren't concerned with explaining Oscar, so long as he gives families a better chance of saying goodbye to the dying.

Oscar recently received a wall plaque commending his "compassionate hospice care."

I bet a lot of old people shoo that cat away when he tries to go visit them!

Hahaha But discrimination aside a politic must be able to inspire people to get what he wants. When he cannot remember what he has to say or show emotion the game is lost. The speech was good but in the end it rang false and it's not the words that the audience will remember. Apart from the barbaric!

As for Beyonce while I'll admit I smiled at the sight it was admirable that she continued undistracted. That's an attitude
