I play time limits with my friends because as far as I'm concerned it's a matter of courtesy.  Any knucklehead can take one imp and run earth elementals around in circles.  That doesn't take strategy.  That takes me pulling out my hair and grabbing my PsP and playing FF tactics until that fifteen minutes is up.

And thank god that timer keeps running even while you're battling.  You want a big battle vs. another hero?  Make sure it's the last thing you do on your turn.  You want to prance around with 7 stacks of one of something and play dodgeball with T7s?  Guess what, you get to do that all of once or twice with 6-8 minute turns.

anyone who would play a serious game of chess without time control needs to have his head examined. its like hiring someone to paint your house and paying them by the hour....if theyre dishonest and have no other work pending your house might never get painted.

ive played games of homm3 that took WHOLE DAYS!!!! i suspect my opponents may have been loading the save onto a seperate computer to study the game offline.

time controls allow people who REALLY HAVE A LIFE to play these games in addition to making it tougher for those who have joined the dark side.

It can take long ,usually it don't , If it takes long usually its a matter of a slow computer - the autosave is what slows it down , The autosave really works slow on slow computers.

Is the hard save faster then?  I have never timed it.
