This is NOT a child's toy.

One Christmas...

After dinner was over and all was put away in its rightful place, my family opened Christmas gifts.  This is an exciting time for children, especially my 5-year-old daughter who delighted in item after item that she opened.

My mother told me earlier in the day that she was getting dolls, dolls and more dolls because she loves them so much.  To be honest with you, I probably wouldn't have paid so much attention to her gifts if it weren't for the fact that I helped to free a couple of them from their adult-proof boxes.

One such gift was a pair of Bratz Babies.  I'm sure you've heard of the Bratz dolls - spunky teen figures dressed up in trendy clothes and with attitude to spare.  The Bratz Babies are slightly different.  I'll show you a photo to further explain.

Move over Barbie...  Meet Sugar and Spice

Does anyone else see a glaring problem with the photo above?  I was horrified to take a good look at these dolls when I realized that these baby dolls, complete with a bottle attached, are wearing lingerie.  Not only should a baby not wear makeup, these babies have cropped shirts, pretty panties and hooker jackets.

What the hell will my daughter gain from this?

Perhaps I should just take her to Victorias Secret and get her a thong.  After all, if a baby can wear lacy panties, why shouldn't a 5-year-old?  I understand that women will forever be objectified, but in my humble opinion this is stepping over boundaries that should never be crossed.

Apparently the makers of Bratz Babies are older, balding pedophiles.  Case in point:

Beyond wrong.

I understand that a young child won't look at these dolls and have the same thoughts as I do, but I'm seriously disturbed by the fact that these dolls are on store shelves.  To the best of my knowledge they don't dress the older Bratz dolls in crap like this, so why would they dress a baby this way?

As I studied these God-awful specimens of our society's declining morals, I was irritated.  Because I was irritated, I probably read too much into the assortment of crap that came with the dolls.

Hmmmm....

I'm not sure what the purpose of these ducks are.  I think they're supposed to be some kind of bath toy.  Nevertheless, I don't think that a cock ring is necessary to give a child.

Yes, I know it's a halo, not a cock ring.  Still.

At what point do we say "enough"?  A friend of mine couldn't find jeans for her 5th grader unless they were low rise.  I guess that child should have low rise jeans so she can show off her Victorias Secret thong panty.  Mini skirts are sold in the children's clothing section.  Girls are taught that they should be sexy by the time they're 6.

Children have no business being sexy.

Is anyone else appalled by this?

Um, nope.

I remember a few years ago Dennis Byrne, a somewhat conservative columnist for the Chicago Sun Times, expressed his dismay and disgust about Abercrombie & Fitch's marketing of thongs for little girls ages 7 and up.

We've been dealing with the hypersexualization of young women for a long time.  This is nothing new.  But is it a sign of society's declining moral standards or just a sign of society's evolving standards?  Women are far more empowered today than they were when we were growing up.  And the less a woman wears, the more standoffish she usually is.  Same goes with girls and maybe children in general.  They imitate.  Monkey see, monkey do, right?  Parents who chain smoke in front of their children and then beat their kids for stealing their cigarettes are complete loons.

What is new are all the whorry headbanger chicks from the 70s and 80s who finally had children and now declare that society's morals are declining and we must save the children from themselves!  Present company excluded of course.

As for the dolls themselves, these might be considered somewhat racier outfits for them.  But the important lesson I think being imparted here, and I hope all little girls take this to heart for when they become women, is, how supremely important it is for women to have matching panties for their outfits.  Clearly this is a lesson that needs to be taught and retaught and the younger you get'em, the more responsible they will be about this god given duty of theirs in the future.

While putting on that lacey get up at night and flaunting around my room I stopped and thought, where is that hot pen striped library outfit of mine?  I looked franticly through my dresser with grand anticipation to only discover it in a laundry basket. (The laundry basket that my 12 year folds her laundry in ) So while tapping my impatient foot and awaiting her arrival, I thought about what I would say to her. Was this a mistake on her part or was she dancing around the house one day in complete glee that she too could wear the larger version of The My snow Barbie Collection. She bounced through the door and threw her stuff at my feet. I lead her to the basket and calmly asked her if she had planned to hang this “extra” piece of material in her closet.  While awaiting an answer I noticed she has wore my forty dollar Sinful shirt to school that day, starring back at me was school cafeteria cheese pizza soaked in my sleeve. GRRRRRRR!
She looked at me very serenely and said,” I thought I would bring it to my sleepover tonight along with your panties I’ am wearing’.

*long drawn out sigh*

Thanks so much for the preview of what I will surely be encountering not too long from now. *ugh*

{counts the years until daughter is 14....}
{reviews options in head for lock up or chastity belt fitting for said daughter}

*Grumbles* MY child had better not get any ideas that she will be wearing anything that belongs to me...unless I am dead, and for good measure, her daddy better be dead as well because if he isn't laser beams will certainly erupt from his eyeballs the day she attempts to walk out of the house in anything not deemed suitable.

But you know...it's getting harder and harder to find anything that isn't low-rise, thong, or cut too short. This applies to not only women's clothing, but the girls sections as well. The only ones that seem to be able to find "normal" clothing is the guys.

What gives?

Trust me Moon when I say she's got some...outfits.

*Snorts* my snow barbie outfits...god that is a gem.
Sorry darling VF, but you can't really deny that one, and if I need to talk about the pearls...I will.
I don't even want to think about your girl in THAT...
I laughed myself nearly sick after the feeling of dread passed that my daughter might take over MY wardrobe...but then again no worries...I am frumpy right? Heh.

Frumpy, need I drag the dust covered Rubbermaid container into the story. The one that I’ am blessed with every time I come see you. That and enough plastic toys that you could recycle them all and make a small castle Just because you throw a pair of sweats on does mean that secretly I don’t know what’s under them!!! I remember the first time the pearls ever came into to play. I thought that you fall over. The girl that has worked at every dirty girl store in America had a hard time fathoming how the hell I could wear that. No you’re not frumpy, a bit more conservative then you used to be. You know me though; it is so fun for me to dress up when I go out. I know I know, going to Starbucks is an occasion for me…. ***Hikes up fish nets while ordering double Latte’*****

OMFG you dirty little...*snickers to self* you just HAD to drag MY toy box into this didn't you?
Oh sure...I DO throw on the lounge pants and V-neck white T's...and sure there MIGHT be something awesome under all the frump.
HOWEVER...I've never worn anything that didn't cover my hoo-hoo. *laughing* and let me tell you babe...those pearls...well...HAHA.
I STILL marvel at that wanna be pair of "panties".
Yes, I worked at some adult-ish types stores and WE worked at some adult-ish type places, but I don't want our daughters thinking they can do that at 5 years old or even at 10 years old...good grief. *laughing*
Just sign me up on that parents' list for putting the girls into convents until they are 85 years old....
Dressing up...hehe...I LOVE it when you dress up. Even at Starbucks.
Pull up your pants. LOL
