When he realized he made a mistake why didn't he just put it back on? I mean did he flush it down the toilet or start playing Hacky Sack with it or what?
When Lorena Bobbitt de-dicked her husband she took off in a car with it and threw it out the window into a field. They found it several hours later and still managed to put it back on.

It's not a regular part of the body, like a finger or a toe, that you can just put back and nothing will happen. There are many very delicate nerve cells, that once they are damaged, nothing can be done to bring them back to their old condition. Maybe he tried to put that back, but I guess that it didn't really work for him.

-He used a chainsaw
-He has Parkinson
-He wanted to show what an artisan he was
-He felt like it

You know, seriously though, my theory was actually a bit similar to one of your options:
Maybe he had a grudge with the patient and saw his chance for revenge in the operating room.
But, if that were the case, the patient should've never been in the same room as that doctor. Why risk it?

surgeons can attach a dead man's hand to a patient and still will work properly... why isn't it the same with the guy's thingy..? why is it 'aesthetic' only? (errr.. well, if the guy's an exhibitionist.. he still might have some use for it hehe)

Yes, but the hand can practically be sewed back. How do u do it with the thingie? U can't expect the doctor to weld it back. Sewing is a bit more... inappropiate with that, I believe...

@DagothGares: I'm sure it can be sewn back...but I'd rather not think about it...*cringes involuntarily*
It may suffer permanent damage though...it's much more sensitive than a hand or a leg, for example.
