patch 1.0 -> 1.01
- texture links: if you want to retexture the creature now you only need to recolour the main skin (to be placed in Characters/Creatures/Neutrals/NCF_Crystal_Dragon/crystaldragonpattern.dds, to recolour you can use original Magma Dragon skin), the falling crystal pieces will match their colour automaticly
- script ID fixed to match the true ID the creature is based on

Crystal Dragon - Tier 8, Neutral, balanced (??).
CREATURE_291 / CREATURE_DRAGON_MADE_OF_CRYSTAL (originally bugged, fixed in 1.01)
power rating: 31112 (by alci's power calculator)
Quite simply, there is no creature alive or dead that could stand alone against the raw, awesome power of the Crystal Dragon. Their extreme rarity and limited susceptibility to magic are their only known weaknesses.

The Crystal Dragon now has an official texture patch, which makes him more red and minimally more shiny than on the screenshots above. If you prefer this version you can download it from here (install by unpacking the archive directly into game directory folder):

hmm... Looks kinda like it's made of jelly on the screenshots... might be a completly different thing in game though, nice work anyway

I believe crystal texture would look better as it did in one project.
IMHO the best looking NCF creature of all.
Initiative 16? Come on. I know in H3 they always acted first, but by then they have no so ridiculous advantage over other units. The same is tru for magic proof - there has to be a way to stop them!
You will not have to care about it when creating Azure Dragon.

Also, this dragon's feet doesn't mysteriously pierce the ground as in that pic

a) it's a level 8 creature
b) it will never appear on a map unless you have placed it on one by yourself in the editor

I guess I could download this to check, but I'm not a modder or map creator...
So here's a question: If it's initiative is so high, does it have any special movement? The default magma dragon had a quite slow movement, and this one is going to act much, so it would get kind of annoying having it running around with the slow and mighy godzilla walk
I take it that the second screenshot is the death animation, nice idea!

The Icon is an absolute piece of art! Stunning!
The Dragon itself seems a triffe too pink for me - or is it just the ambient light that does it? Personally, I find the one Warmonger shows to be more pleasing on the eye (and that one is stunning!).

Wow, it's realy cool.
Could you make azure dragon mod or megadragon with wings and new name?
Also, the new crystal dragon seems a bit too bloody red, if possible, make it more transparent/more clear, like the pink one.

1. If anyone likes the red version better feel free to make a new skin and spread it.
2. About the icon...
grayscaled magma dragon's icon + half transparent & + contrast/brightness toying
3. If I was going to make an Azure I'd rather base it on Sylvan's Crystal Dragon.

@Radar: Let me know if you want the texture.. I think it's still have it.
I never went further with my crystal dragon a few months ago because no one would explain to me how to get transparency to apply in game, and i couldn't get a glowing orb to sit well inside the chest. But heck... you seem to have it down. I was trying to match the crystal in H5 as well as the H3 description about them being powered by their glowing magical heart. I tried gluing the familiar's glow to the chest bone, but *shrugs*..
just let me know, bud..

I'll have to dig it up tonite (i'm at work now).. would you do a poor old man a favor and slap the transparency & the glowing heart into it? Doesn't seem like you'd have too much of a problem with it.

well.. looked for the texture last night and i'm regret to inform that it's gone. The two main things I did if you're interested in recreating the texture. Use the texture from the crystal for the texture of the crystal dragon (imagine that) and set the transparency to 25%.
Is there a way to change the animation speed? The Crystal dragon was always a very quick mover.
