I think the two thrones is the only of all the PS2 game I bought which disappointed me. it's a good game, but it's extremly frustrating, there are almost no checkpoints and save points and it's easy to die, especially as the dark prince, when you can't figure what to do... (or maybe I suck)

"Can you hear it? My blade hungers for you! *Get in my belly!*"

When we came to the prince shouting: "You *female dog*!" in a short cutscene when he was fighting some odd S&M lady, I just rolled on the floor laughing. This is just over the top ridiculous! The prince suddenly turns from a likeable little smartarse to some wannabe badarse! Little did I know that the line: "You *female dog*!" was to be a very fitting word to describe my relationship with this game.

the prince just can't beat that :

Oh yeah! Hwo's up for the new Prince of Persia?

It looks more fun, amazing and enjoyable than ever before!
Just look at this trailer! (The sound fits it very good in some strange way)

I mean, did you all like the 3 first games? Climbing arround, jumping, fighting and control the time.. Thats just fun!
SOT was boring..
WW was very good, and much more enjoyable than SOT..
TTT Was the best of them, because of many new ideas of gameplay, and more fighting than the other 2..

Trailer

I just hope it's bigger that before, and better looking graphics. And ofcourse less Bugs..

I STRONGLY disagree.
SOT was really enjoyable because of it's atmosphere of an arabic tale that it would seem no other game could bring back (until the new POP poped out ). Full of fresh ideas with an awsome soundtrack and graphics revolutionary for it's time.
WW was the most technically perfected of the three - precise and sensitive control, great graphics and awsome free-form fighting combined with the longest average in-game time required to complete it within the SOT trylogy.
TTT was A DISASTER Not only did it not do as promised by taking the best of the last two games, combined with new gameplay ideas and perfect it, as promised - but it actually took the WORST of them. It was short and had dull free-form fighting with the prince with just a couple of combos instead of hundreds like in it's "ancestor" and they were weak, while the Dark Prince had as many combos, but OVERPOWERED once -  you just go E, M1, E, M1, E, M1 and in two seconds everybody's dead... wtf?! Thus the dark prince was overpowerd and still had the dull fighting with only a few combos, while for the prince it actually did became sort of an all-about-hiding stealth game, which ubi promised it WOUDN'T become. I guess chairot races are allright but there's just two of them. And the mixture of graphc styles between the two games lea only to an astonishingly unspectacullar kind of graphics...

EDIT: Ooops, I forgot to say anything about the new one... well, it ROCKS! It's got beautifull and very orginal graphics, fantastic atmosphere, new fighting system that I must say sort of works better for me than the one in T2T and a storyline that may become very touching at certain points (especially the beggining and the end).

Prince 1 had really nice atmosphere. All those dark, stinking dungeons. Looked really climatic those days.

Prince 2 sucked a bit, because the dungeons were too bright and colorful. I know that PoP1 also had a colorful "palace" theme, but thanks to black background, it still looked scary

All the others are a waste of space.

Oooh c'mon. Th topic founder obviously meant PoP2008 by seaying "Prince of Persia" and it is way closer to the SoT trylogy than the old PoP games - that's why everybody refers to those games. WILL PEOPLE EVER STOP CRYING FOR THE DOS/NES/SNES GAMES?! THEY"RE GONE - WE HAVE THE BEAUTIFULL GRAPHICS AND CASUAL-PLAYER ORIENTED GAMEPLAY NEW GEN GAMES TODAY, OK? Seriously, guys... old game fan-boys sound just like some 70-80yo's that cry about the "good old days". I mean old games aare just fine but so are many of the new-gen games in a way of their own. They are just too diferent things... you don't compare Mozart and Metallica (OMGWTF) - it's all nice music, just a VERRY VERRY VERRY different kind of nice music...

No.  They aren't gone and I still like some of them.  Doesn't stop me from enjoying new games either.

The new POP wasn't out yet when this was made right?  No one is stopping anyone from talking about it.

@PhoenixReborn: By "gone" I meant their era has just passed away and they just don't make them like that anymore and this is a logical-to-happen sort of thing just as it is logical that a piece of software can't be completely and literally "gone". And it's not the talking about them that amuses me (I'm sure not the sort of guy for discrimintaion), but the old games fanboys that deny all new games. This sort of goes about all fanboys - it's just stupid to put a border between A's and B's on some completely general priniple like release date and say - I love a's and hate b's. It's somehow similar to racism in certain terms. Yes I do have certain games, or musical performers that I don't like but Again there is a big differenc between this and the A's and B's system. And yet I always keep in mind that this performer might release a song or respectively the next game in this franchise could be one that would touch me.

@Doomforge: Why? I mean you must admit it has it's positive sides. Hardcore games take a lot of time. Now they just make games finishable also for people who want to or in some sad cases simply HAVE to generally do other stuff...

cause casual gamer sucks. It's not to offend people who don't have time or skills to play; it's just a fact.

Makes games too easy for people who actually love them. Times when games were any challenge to me are long gone, unless they are multiplayer-orientated ofc, but that's another story.

Games are no longer for the chosen. I miss those days when going past level 20 in supaplex made you feel so damn special.

I don't hate new games. I hate that they are easier and easier every year. And no, I'm not getting better. Tried some Cannon Fodder again a few weeks ago and I couldn't even pass 1/3 of that damned game

The community tries hard, there are difficulty mods to almost any game now. But it's not enough. The games are too easy.

Why do we - true gamers - have to adjust our skills to casual gamers?

Why not vice versa?

Doomforge is right about that!
There hasn't realy been any hard-to-complete games since the good old classic nintendo and super nintendo where new!

New games is ofcourse much more fun to play, but none of them isn't as hard as some of the old console games..

I think I like the way Disturbed-Gnu put it (and his nick made me ROFL). Well who knows, maybe there's still something coming. Personally I find the games in the DMC series quite tough - maybe not tough to complete but tough to master. And DMC4's Hell and Hell mode... HELL!! Unless you;ve sortof masterd the game which is hard.

It's not about making a 200 HP monster have 20000 HP to make the game "harder"

It's about mechanics

they are usually easy, or abusive, or both.

Which sucks.

I have quite recently finished Warrior Within and The Two Thrones and I shall give to you my opinion that you most likely don't really care about .

The Warrior Within managed to redeem itself quite decently after the sluggish and constantly interrupted first half of the game once you get to play as the sand wraith who is way cooler than the prince and has nearly unlimited reserves of the sands of time. The degenrating health didn't bother me since it wasn't lethal.

Playing as the sand wraith was even more like playing Soul Reaver, but with exception of Raziel being a ninja, the camera not being **** and the story not being interesting. The bad thing was that it was basically just a bunch of backtracking.

The entire game is basically the level desing team just flipping the bird to the audience. Almost half the game is backtracking and the other half is switching between the light world & dark world or "past" & "present" as the game likes to call them.

I finished the game and got the bad ending so I watched the "good" ("good" meaning "not quite as bad") ending at YouTube and they both were cliffhangers. I couldn't really be frustrated at the game for its cliffhanger ending since I got The Two Thrones in the same box, but I'll still give the game flack about it.

Final verdict: Definently the weakest of the bunch.

Prince of Persia - The Two Thrones

When the opening cinematic started playing I immediately noticed how the prince's attire had changed and I also noticed that there seems to be a theme with Ubisoft's games about almost never having the same voice actors in the sequels. I'll let it pass since the prince sounds mostly the same as in The Sands of Time and he is starting to return to his likeable smartarse nature wich is even further amplified with the presense of the dark prince.

I must say that I was a bit disappointed when the game's story wasn't all that much about a rivarly between the prince and the dark prince how the title and some of the commercial artwork would suggest, but I'll let it pass for the story was quite serviceable with the story coming full circle, the prince growing up, getting the girl and teaching a cute little morale to the kids.

As people have stated before, the relationship between the prince and himself was more interesting that the one between the prince and the girl. Propably because the girl didn't spend quite as much time with the prince as the prince does and they are both quite concentrated on their quest.

Props for scrapping the tacky metal soundtrack.

Now for the actual gameplay.

I liked the way that the game scrapped backtracking and became nice and linear. That did cost a bit on the overall playtime, but its good. It would have been nice to be able to turn into the sand prince at will, but I guess the story bound transforming thingy was okay too.

The combat hasn't been improved much from Warrior Within, but the new combos and the sand prince were decent additions though the sand prince's ability to grab his enemies with the daggertail didn't work too well most of the time. I appreciate how the game gave you a choice to be able to go through many situations by either using the speed kills & stealth or run in and swing your weapons about like a madman without punishing or rewarding either style. Too bad that the stealth wasn't really all that well executed.

The plantforming was almost the same as it had been, but with a few small additions like all of the convieniently placed dagger sockets and bouncy windows and the sand prince segments. The chariot parts was a nice change of pace though there were only 3 (if you count riding the giant as one) and they were also very short. They also feel alot like they were just added there so they could mention it in the marketing.

Final verdict: I think its pretty equal with Sands of Time. It did kind of leave me wanting for more .

I just finished the game and quite liked it, that said I have not played the new trilogy to know how it holds up. The parkour, music, graphics, the beautiful Arabian setting and even Elika are its strong points. I especially liked the latter, both character wise, how she fits in all this, her interaction with the prince and how she didn't let me fall She doesn't just follow you around, she is an integral part of the game and assists you when necessary.

Unfortunately this game has a few serious flaws. First the difficulty seems aimed to the casual player, it sure had a few challenging parts but nothing really hard. Secondly the game was repetitive, kinda like the original assassin's creed. Parkour all over the place, follow Elika's compass power, gather light seeds to unlock the next seal, beat the native beastie, engage one of the four antagonists at every turn before they flee and you have to fight them again at a later time (****!). Seriously how many times did you fight them throughout the game?

Like assassin's creed however I didn't really mind as I was admiring the view and how awesome the game feels. It's not a gaming masterpiece but I rather liked it. Also.. the ending was brilliant, I just didn't expect things to turn out this way.
