I have played Tekken since 2000, when I was 6, and my first one was Tekken 3. Then I played all the consecutive games, 4, 5, 6 and they were all great, I play Tekken 6 BR till this day
I also bought Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 in 2008, and it was OK, different from Tekken, more technical one would say, but overall I don't think it's fluid enough and the characters move unnaturally, despite the great graphics. It's still good IMO.
I have also been playing SoulCalibur, my first game being SC 3, and now I also have SC 4, I was quite sceptical to a game involving weapons at first, but the games have a really interesting and enjoyable climate, and the battles are very entertaining
Never played any other fighting games mentioned so cannot say much

Does anyone know anything about a new Tekken (7 or Tag Team 2) coming out on PS3? Because I heard of it in the news, and even saw an interview with Katsushiro Harada on Youtube where he mentions it. It's supposed to be released later on in 2011, surprisingly soon after Tekken 6, seeing how there was abput 5 years interval between Tekken 5 and 6.

Seems like air combos are the thing in this.
I might or might not like that.
VF pulled it off well enough but Soul had so OP ones it was lame.

I think it will work out pretty nice. Most characters seem quite capable in the juggling area (as opposed to just some characters being CRAZY awesome at it)

It wasn't that bad in Soul Calibur... or at least not in the third game. Never played the fourth one... can't handle Yoda in mah SC.

There were so many moves that caused stagger that I actually didn't juggle that much... I mostly kept to the ground.

Depends on the character though... I'm a Mitsurugi guy.

eugh, I DESPISE air combos. Of course I got used to them, in Tekken especially, because SC and VF don't require it too much. But they are just soo aesthetically disturbing and so unnatural, I wish a fighting game would come out that actually was PHYSICALLY realistic. Of course, that doesn't stop me from liking those games

haha, Yoda is purchaseable in Playstation Network for £1 as I remember, u don't have to buy him xD but Darth Vader is there from the beginning

My favourite characters:

Tekken:
male - KING, Lei, Raven, Kuma
female - LING XIAOYU, Julia, Nina, Roger Jr (though he's male but oh well)

Virtua Fighter: (though I don't play too much)
male - Kage, Wolf, drunken grandpa guy
female - Pai Mei, Aoi Umenakouji

Soul Calibur: (I actually play with pretty much everybody)
male - Rock, Maxi, Yun-Seong, Astaroth, Kilik, Lizardman, Cervantes
female - AMY!, Seong-Mi-Na, Taki

Heh. True Soulcalibur players know that Nightmare is the best balanced character there is (balanced as in not too weak or too strong, not balanced stat wise).

He is my main.

I think most SC characters are balanced, or rather equal to others, because none is truly balanced, some move with the speed of light, attack like frenzied wasps, others are slow, but when they hit they destroy half the healthbar, and others have 10 metre long sticks to poke you with, whereas others fight with 20 cm long knives.

Overall, all are equal in terms of overpowerness, though I think some are unfair, ESPECIALLY ones like Nightmare (and Siegfried), who deal massive damage, move superfast (for the size of those surfingboards), and attack rapidly on different levels (low, mid, high) easily sweeping you off your feet )

Forgot the go-out-of-control ones like Voldo and Taki

I also think Dead or Alive is very interesting, I only played 1 and 2, because 3 and 4 came out on xBox and xBox 360 respectively, and I only have PS3, but it seemed very interesting, with diverse characters, cool movement, lots of reversals, interactive stages  etc.

*turns around to look at what fighting games I actually own*

Tekken 5

Lei Wulong - imma panther stance ya b****. I love him for his mindgames.

Soul Calibur 3

Mitsurugi - stab to the stomach -> KICK!
Astaroth - stagger opponent to crouch -> crouch throw
Xianghua - insane stagger moves, also love her side stepping and attitude

Bloody Roar 4 - picked this one up cheaply. Surprisingly fun game, though unbalanced as ****. It definitely deserves a next-gen sequel.

Reiji, the Crow - I can aircombo an opponent for fricking 20 seconds with him and just as the enemy approaches the ground I whip out an overdrive move and land 50 more hits. It's ridiculous but.... so much fun.

Guilty Gear X2 # Reload - best fighting game so far.

Venom - black homosexual assassin dude who likes to play with balls... billiard balls. He's more awesome than you'll ever be.
Has an insane rushdown game that he covers with a solid zoning game with his billiard balls.

Blazblue Calamity Trigger - almost on Guilty Gear level of awesome

Hakumen - while most characters in this game excel at landing devastatingly long combos, Hakumen just takes it easy... lands a few hits... builds up his Magatama bar...
...and then sets up a barrier that counters your move, you fly helplessly... and there comes the Kokujin: Shippu . Death in 2 blows.

Dead or Alive 4 - God... damn... NINJAS!

Bayman - Gotta love it when you land one those empowered counter holds and time it right so it does like 5x more damage than normal. If the game was even somewhat realistic the opponent would be dead the second that Bayman lands any of his grab moves... he's bound to break your neck, arms and legs at least 10 times over in 1 match.

Let's see

Dreamcast original ownage baby!

Virtual Fighter 3 Team Battle
-Aoi Umenokouji, FEAR THE PHOENIX PALM snow!
NOTHING is more psychologically damaging than the phoenix palm, for snickers, phoenix palm, evade, phoenix palm again!
Aiki Ju-Jutsu, countless counters(the finish to the the first fight is a counter), totalising throw combos(0:50), exquisite elbows(just look at her go!), knack for knees(just look wolf fly, hohoho), phoenix palm(two versions actually, turn around and not turn around, end of the third fight a few times) oh yes, that airfall ends the way you think it does, OUCH!

Soul Calibur
-Sophitia, 70% air combo? Did someone say GG?
Heaven's arc(has to be the best way to go, hihihihihi, around 0:38), didn't find any vs. videos or videos of the air combo ownage, just vs. computer ones and most of those suck so bad this is what you get.

SNES rules!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Fighting Edition
The best fighting game till Dreamcast came around and I snow you not. It's awesome fun. It's balanced.
Throws are counterable but not automatically so, countering one leads to a deadlock with both sides fighting for control, they are a point of frustration, suffering and ultimate victory grin.
There's a special counter, the time you execute special is in relation to their strenght, if you time it perfectly you get to the next level. Upon reaching the last level your meter will always be full but it will only last for sometime before resetting. You can use this time to punish your opponent with fullpower combo onslaught and you get the access to the fullpower special. Using the special resets the meter so you might not wanna go for it right as you get it, on the other hand, maybe you want...
Has only 9 characters(one being Ivan the floating snow not really playable, well it is, and it's not HORRIBLY imbalanced but gah, floating, really?), minus for that but with the characters being so different from each other, you don't really care. Want melee specialist? OK. Want movement specialist? OK. Allrounder? OK. Speed devil? OK. Tank? OK.
My only gripe is that the block is backwards movement but seeing as it's still that way in so many games, maybe that can be passed.
Oh, what character I prefer? EVERYONE!
Oh yeah, no vs. videos.

PC age of grandness!

Mortal Kombat 3
-Scorpion, everybody LOVES scorpion.
Couldn't find a vid but UMK3 is practically the same game so...*shrugs*
Ad, skip to 2:30 for your satisfaction.
Yes, the upwards hook is the best move in the game and everybody knows it, love or hate it it's still an obsession.

N64

Super Smash Bros.
-Samus, SCREW YOU!
Friend playes Link so epic matches aplenty.

Tekken's characters ARE bland but the game is by far my favorite among fighting games. MK is a very close call, but I did not bother playing much after MK4 (I did take a bite at Deception and Armageddon, but I did not find them amazing).

Meanwhile, I do remember myself spending months literally on Tekken3, getting all the characters unlocked, completing their stories and whatnot. While some characters may be laughable (Kuma, Gon, the mad scientist), they all add up to the fun. Some signature moves are as likeable as those of MK (such as Yoshimitsu's or Paul's).

Just watched a bit of gameplay of MK 9 Ermac and he's just plain awesome. Cool X-ray, and his fatality is really gruesome

I especially like how he has a warp that doesn't include an attack. Other characters like Scorpion and Mileena attack automatically after warping and can get punished severely if the opponent blocks it.

Ermac? He can just mix up a throw or something after warping! Awesome hehe...

EDIT: Hmm... checked the videos again and Ermac does seem to strike after warping after all... he just does it so damn fast that I didn't even notice it haha.

EDIT2:

You don't ****ing mess with Hakumen. He'll counter your ass to bits.

Kokuujin Ogi... AKUMETSU! So badass.

Will be set 17 years after the events in SC4, main character will be Patroklos, the son of Sophitia.

I pray for no ****y guest characters that **** up the immersion... main reason I never got SC4.

At least Link fit into SC2.

There are tons of characters that would fit a lot better into SC than Bayonetta or any of that Star Wars junk. (Note: Star wars isn't junk, when it sticks to Star Wars only stuff)

**** YES

Dead or Alive is back.

Apparently it will focus on "fighting entertainment" and using the enviroment much more.

Sounds like a good DoA to me, personally it's always been about flashy fighting that has AWESOME impact, you can really feel the blows in DoA games, in comparison to other fighters where it barely looks like it hurts.

Expanded enviromental usage sound cool as well It's very satisfying to end a combo by flinging someone off a mountain haha, so if they can EXPAND on something like that... yeah awesome...

Here's hoping the ninjas don't turn out so awfully overpowered as in the last games.

Street Fighter is the ultimate fighting game as it requires upmost strategic thinking, and talent not like the other. It is also the source of all the others. My only problem with it is the funny elements in the game and not some unoriginal characters.

Mortal Kombat is great at art design and character creation. But cannot even compete with SF in the real "game" area. You just mas special. Don't any tactics or knowledge. That is until the last installment MK9 of course. It seems real good. But again they have copied everything from SF. Ex moves are straight copies. Ultra moves from SF changed their names to X-Ray.  Different posture and grabber/combo doer distinction is also from SF.

But I never played Tekken. Cause they never released a game for PC. And consoles are twice expensive in Turkey.
