It's not just Marvel though, WB, Fox and Sony are making a lot of these too.
Yes, and they won't stop making comic book movies until they flop and they wouldn't profit from spending more on a sequel. Like it happened with Fantastic Four and Fox. I'm glad Deadpool was a hit because I really enjoyed it.

@Stevie: mindless entertainment is a must from time to time.
But to answer Cor's question, it's pretty damn simple. It's what is familiar to a lot of people, and as well as an easy cash grab. Comic nerds will go and watch those movies hundred times over, plus adapting an already established thing to a movie is way easier than thinking up an original concept.
I too dislike this conveyor belt of sci-fi. We need more good old fashioned space operas, not Neanderthals in spandex running willy nilly all over the place.
But alas, most of those "new" sci-fis have flopped. Jupiter Ascending was amazing looking in trailers, but I didn't even sat through the entire movie. And that is something which doesn't happen often. The only other film which I quit watching in the middle was Lithuanian own Valentinas Vienas, a crappy take on a romantic comedy. Which was based around some sort of film called "young people bleeping". Or something like that. 20 minutes in and I switched it off. Glad I didn't payed for that crap too.

well, over-exposure is a little different than wondering why people enjoy superhero movies in the first place
I'm fine it right now: Marvel clearly know what they're doing and the movies are of consistently high quality (can't think of a single "bad one". Some average or underwhelming ones but never "bad").
Question is if they force away other types of movies and I have to say I doubt that. Space operas are out of fashion ATM and we likely wouldn't have a lot of them in any case(movie studios are almost as dumb as game publishers with what is or isn't actually popular) though the success of "the force awakens" might change that

Team Captain America ftw
Absolutely agree. Civil War has a good chance to be the best action movie ever, but there's still more to it.
Just like Iron Man 3. The trailer featured mainly some exploding helicopters and usual stuff, but it's nowhere near strongest point. There's great plot with fantastic twists and a lot of humor, too. Action sequences are not only effective, but just clever and suprising.

I have a genuine curiosity: do any of you really enjoy that crap? Is your attention stolen so easily by a bunch of explosions and CGI? Because to me this is the kind of nagging and pretentious american bullsnow that doesn't even let you sleep in the cinema.
Yes, just two years ago I found comic books, especially Marvel ones, silly stories for kids. But the movies from MCU are at least good and often awesome. They scrapped all the naive ideas, making storylines believable and relevant.

Superhero movies are like crepes. They may not be the most exquisite dish/genre, but they are (nearly) always tasty and you can safely choose them as a mean of entertainment when you go to a cinema. They are well acted, decently written, so there isn't that much to complain about them.
Speaking of CGI being so "bad," I highly recommend checking out this YouTube video.

I finally watched the original The Day of the Jackal (1973) and even though the 1997 remake with Richard Gere/Bruce Willis was the one I saw first, I can assure you the '73 version is so much better, a classic even. As a thriller and suspense film, it is not outdated even a bit. And comparing the two is a perfect way to see how the safe Hollywood formula is not always so safe. Everything they add up in the remake to appeal to the crowds, the forced in love story, the personal vendetta between the good guy and the bad, more relatable characters with background stories, supertech guns, in short, almost every cliche from action films, only works against the direct, cut the the chase, unemotional yet brilliant approach of the original. The remake has a twist in the end, this one hasnt, yet, even that works better. There is not a single scene in this movie that is a filler or that doesnt engage you in the hunt for the Jackal and his professionalism and resourcefulness getting one step ahead. I'm so glad, I gave it a go.

did you ever read comic books as a kid? i did. that's why i enjoy these movies. they take imagination to whole new levels; in fact, they take the imagination of these comic book writers and artists, and show you what it would be like, if they were real. taking what was formly imagination-only, and making it much more of a "reality", is something i'm always for. i couldn't give a damn what the producers of these movies are making monetarily, because i watch nearly all of these movies online for free. all i care about, is that they're well done, and that they entertain me. which they tend to do.
in short, i love comic book movies, because i love fantasy. as long as they're done well, and don't pander to certain modern themes from real life. if they make it obvious, it's an immediate turn-off. which is why i had problems with the "transformers" series.

I have greatly enjoyed superhero movies but it is starting to lose some of its charm. I'm not excited at all about Batman vs Superman: Need to Make Money and only slightly interested in Civil War. I think it's because of my aforementioned distaste of hero vs hero plots. Oh well.
Speaking of big dumb movies with explosions, anybody see Pacific Rim? I love that film. The moment Gypsy Danger uses an oil tanker as a bat was cathartic; my inner child shouted with joy. Yeah, it was dumb but it was a ton of fun and in my top 10 favorite movies.

Pacific rim does not offer empty promises, you know exactly what to expect and it delivers It's just beautiful. I will admit that I didn't care when I saw the trailer - figured it's just another flashy movie, all style and no substance. But damn it was cool!

Except I despise the way they just trashed the Japanese robot in the beginning ( the guys who I would imagine would have a robot 10x better than the rest of the world if this was to happen) and it was so cool with its spinning blades and what not

I realize I must be from outer space.
I liked a lot of superhero movies and cartoons as a kid, but I consider I've outgrown those. Or maybe the quality just dropped. Or maybe I simply lost interest in the genre. Or maybe I've become overly critical about things. Either way, I just can't stand them right now. The "coolness" factor doesn't even make me raise an eye brow anymore, it's just cliche. Plot? A stupidity-inducing pill which I'm not willing to swallow. I'm sure there will be people who'd passionately disagree with me, but that's just how it is.

There's something about just letting your inner kid loose. Like, right down to it, Civil war is little more than two kids playing around with toys going "BOOM, Iron man shot his laser on Captain america!" "Well, It bounced of his shield towards vision!" Vision gets out of the way!" "But Scarlet witch stops him with her mind-powers!" etc.
I can respect that. I can respect the sincerity in doing what surmounts to a kids playtime with the amount of honesty and respect they do. That is not something to scoff at. That is to be admired and celebrated as far as I'm concerned.

For me it's the opposite, I only got into superhero movies and started enjoying movies in general when I was 17 with Tim Burton's Batman. Before that, I didn't really watch many movies except at the cinema on occasion.

Because 'murica always has to be the hero. That's the staple.
But yeah, Pacific Rim was one of the better sci-fi movies of the recent years.
Also, it seem's like Ivan is also hopping on the super hero gravy train

no way am i even bothering to watch batman vs superman. the idea is retarded(but i've stated that before). a comic book movie only works, for me, if they at least start out with a plausible premise.
i'm not a fan of the hero vs hero idea either; but a villain vs villain movie, with all the good guys and helpless civilians caught in the middle, becoming cannon fodder? sounds good. like maybe, an r-rated spiderman movie(really, i want to see more comic book movies become r-rated(even x, snow it). with venom and carnage snowing snow up. carnage especially. there's so much cgi damage that can be done with his symbiote, it's ridiculous. i want to see GORE. and SCREAMING. and FURY.
oh, and NUDITY. awww yeee... miss johansson? it's time to disrobe and get naughty...
i don't think, that they really portray these villains, as villainous as they actually are. i want to see some REAL baddies.
