Saw it yesterday, just to make sure I am fashion updated. To be frank, I have no idea what was about and too lazy to look for script online. First I thought they look for some plans to destroy death star but star was still there by the end

You do understand the concept of "prequel", right? The actual Death Star gets blown up in Episode IV, A New Hope, which has been out and about for about 40 years now.

All predator movies (I know 3 of them) are good, but the one with Arnie, the first one, is a must. Merciless, fast, furious, macho, no psycho-drama and no romance, exactly what it needs.
The merciless macho, are you sure about that? Actually Major (the commander of that mini-platoon) have his own philosophy (or perhaps he have obtain too much blows in the head ), on the beginning of the movie, he said a reason why he refused to go in Libya - this is obviously not a merciless macho habits.

I already watched two films, and both of them is not very fun as for myself, first one is a combination of a ridiculous  military warfare and the cursed by all existing and non-existing gods cold war, second one is a ridiculous gangs warfare. . Well, maybe the second one is little bit better as for myself, because I do not like the criminal guys, perhaps, even little bit more than some kind of the soldiers.

Both movies have a huge gore level, which is bad for myself too. <imo> Alien (1979) is much more better, even Aliens (1986) is much more better.

I think mr Sun Tzu was an amazing joker in his time, and perhaps, he drink too much of rice vodka. It's a joke.

You'd actually be surprised how good these taste, marinated with herbs.
But seriously and like I was saying, these are all clichés, if you ever come to France you will see we eat normal food, and as I was saying red meat, cheese and red wine are the real local specialties.

(I think we have a food thread btw).

Rogue One... It feels like 2 hours episode from a TV-series rather than a real movie. The entire script, scenes and story follows the formula "you know this stuff in general, here are some specifics". Many things look rushed, the characters are too many and too underdeveloped and there is a big amount of details put in there just for nostalgia's sake.

However!

Unlike the barely watchable Episode 7 which fails not only as a Star Wars movie but as a movie in general, Rogue One is actually good and enjoyable. It is full of flaws, but:
- It is also a fresh take on the universe with surprisingly grey atmosphere where even the good guys aren't 100% Light Side.
- It does not recycle anything and most of the fan-service is actually implemented well, I'd even say tastefully.
- The Stortroopers are lame as always but this time the battles feel much more realistic (for Star Wars of course), with casualties on both sides. The final battle, both in space and on the ground, rivals the best from the original episodes.
- The acting is decent and with one extra hour some of the characters could actually be developed nicely.

7/10 where I give it 1 extra point because it somewhat restored my faith that the franchise can still spawn something good on the big screen.

I don't think anyone expected it to be a masterpiece but I guess this is the most we can expect from an expanding star wars universe with spinoffs in the planning. Not that the prequels were brilliant anyway.

What did you mean by the storm troopers being lame? They wernt the mindless, can't hit the target to save their lives (literally), kind of lame like they were in the originals. At least not to me.

They acted pretty brain-dead and maintained their trademark inaccuracy most of the time. The imperial barracks don't focus on combat or tactics training it seems, you get dozens of Stormroopers moving like a crowd, getting beaten with sticks and shot for target practice - just what you would normally expect of them. And to this day I don't understand what is this white plastic armour good for, a single blaster shot always brings one of these dummies down.

The armor is designed for the imperial soldiers to feel cozy in every galaxy till the day they're shot. In most planets, the climate is a snow.
