Seems Black Panther is getting a lot of praise. Really want to watch this movie.

Well, because it's a really good movie overall - the plot and current message, the flow, setting and costumes, acting. Marvel doesn't fail

Actually action scenes or CGI are nothing extraordinary in this movie we heaven't seen so far, but the artistic value is.

I would also to cut all this nonsense about extreme political correctness that earned it very high notes in USA. Just the fact this movie has large number of black actors and women doesn't make it any better or worse, neither a breakthrought.

So I watched Black Panther. A really good movie, one of the strongest in the franchise, and one which can work as a stand-alone movie. Colorful, smart and unique. The actors were also great, once again Marvel delivered on the casting side. You need to overlook a few things though, it's a fiction, it's not possible for such a technologically advanced nation like Wakanda to thrive unnoticed by the rest of the world. For one, how could they even progress so much without at least information and resource exchange? Or maybe the supposed net of "spies" is responsible for this? Fact is, the more you try to ground it in how our world works, the less possible it is to make sense out of it... superheroes aside, they seem to be trying to "make it work" but it's simply impossible, so we should take it as fiction, nothing more.

My overall reception was spoiled by a little bit of bias though. Yes, you can't make a movie about a thriving African civilization without relating to the subject of various wrongdoings through the ages, but they went a bit too far imo...

Why me, as a white man, should take responsibility and feel miserable for the deeds of the so-called "colonizators", as the white civilization was named in the movie? How many of whites, relatively speaking, are actually responsible for bad social standing of black people in some countries (looking at you America)? I know that one of the points of the movie is probably to show that hate can lead to more hate, but I would like to say to my black brothers that I'm also from a country that would be much more wealthier (and less restitutionary) if it wasn't attacked and robbed time and time again by its neighbors and other aggressors, which isn't to say we didn't do wrong ourselves... but we're definately white

I needed to say this cause I was a bit offended by how the "white civilization" was portrayed in the movie and the agenda of "bad guys"  (now we have the big guns, time for retaliation and role-switch!). Remember that there are two sides of the coin. Black slaves weren't catched by white people only, there were many black accomplices...

i got 8 minutes and 19 seconds into "swiss army man", before i had to turn it off...

and come here to tell you guys to at least watch the opening. i'm snowing DYING of laughter.

i'll be back to talk about the rest, afterwards. spot snowing reserved, man.
------------

ok, i finished the movie. it was quickly becoming my favorite movie up to a certain point, where it kind of dropped off and then plateau'd.

the ending line sums up the whole movie perfectly, i think. definitely still a favorite in my book, no matter that the peak came and left too early. up to a point, i didn't want the movie to end.

Hm, I won some tickets to watch this Black Panther on next thursday. Probably going to watch then. But I'm not very thrilled. Didn't even know such hero existed before watching that other movie he appeared, dunno which one anymore, Captain America, I think. Also, never was a comics reader myself. Don't even recall ever reading any Marvel comics.

As long as it is not as awful as that Apocacrap of X-men movie...

Yeah, being free counts a lot. ^_^ Cinemas have become quite expensive lately.

But the non-thrilled feeling I'm talking about is that the character felt like a filler one in that other movie, which I liked too, so, for me, it was suddenly revealed this movie was about to be released; gave away an aura of vainity. BUT, yeah, I'll got there without compromise, which tends to be better than going full of expectations and see them crushed under those greasy fat fingers of our utter Deception. ^_^

Like I said, Black Panther is a stand-alone movie. It only slightly relates to Avangers here and there. You don't even need to know MCU to enjoy it.

And X-Men movies like Apocalypse are simply bad. Adaptation rights didn't even belong to Disney/Marvel in the first place. After Disney bought Fox maybe there will be better times for the franchise...

I laughted out loud on this one. I don't know or don't care about the comics, just enjoyed Iron Map 3 a lot.

Well, yeah because it appears Wakanda will take a big part in the conflict. Marvel said a few time already that all their movies lead to the two part Infinity War conclusion. They will start another "chapter" after that... there are theories that Galactus will be the next villain.

If that Hela from Thor Ragnarok was also an adaptation, I would give her the most awful villain trophy. The movie was kinda fun, faces, dialogues and little gimmicks were fine; but then ... there was Galadriel killing everyone in the lousiest way possible, couldn't even bring myself to feel anything, neither for all other characters who were simply killed after 30 seconds on the screen. A second worst villain adaptation, in my opinion, would be Ultron.

Hela was stupid powerful. When people start dropping like flies - even core characters - it is hard to comprehend. I didn't dislike her though, she had style.

Ultron was better than expected. I tend to like AI-themed characters in general.

but those two, are at least somewhat faithful to the source material. I think. Haven't seen the latest Thor, since afaik there's no good quality version for me to shamelessly steal.

the MCU Mandarin was... not the all powerful magic wielding arch nemesis of Iron Man. Just a dingus actor playing a Bin Ladenesque imam.

Hela is so insanely strong, only Thanos beats him in the MCU. The only negatives I can think of is there wasn't enough screen time for her hehe.

Ultron started strong and I reeally enjoyed him at first but then he ended up being a punching bag for everyone... so overall a rather bad villain I'd say.

yeah, i much preferred the fight between tony, cap, and barnes(just for the conflicted dynamics). it hit me in the feels.

but i felt bad for ultron, too. imagine being designed to be something beneficial, and then being rejected by the very person who made you. kinda like the frankenstein monster effect.

Just returned from Black Panther movie and it was an OK movie. As mentioned, you must really ignore the stupidly advanced technology not to start thinking you are watching something like Star Wars and think Earth is an alien planet.

Gollum and Bilbo had another riddle-time to enjoy. Gollum died, again. And there was even a ring in the plot!

But it does open a certain potential for the Avengers to get a little bit stronger overall to face Thanos and have hopes of winning. We'll probably see some heroes dying by then? They keep adding movies and super heroes here and there, but I'm somehow expecting some of them start kicking the bucket soon.

Ah, yes, and watched Bright yesterday. It was a bit beyond my expectations. I didn't know what to expect of it, but it wasn't surely something related to social matters that was in my mind. That was an interesting surprise, not bad. And watched The Cloverfield Paradox as well. I haven't decided my feelings about that movie. I could say it had a certain appeal. At the same time, didn't feel hooked by its plot.

Watched Black Panther last night. It was a nice movie, probably one of the better ones in the MCU - if you accepted all the sci-fi stuff without a second thought. The story was believable enough, if the action wasn't all the time and basically boils down to the struggle of a man to lead a kingdom, that's in an identity crisis with regards to its position among nations in the world.

That being said, there were a few things I disliked.

W'Kabi was portrayed in the beginning as an old friend to T'Challa, but when the latter failed to capture Klaue (as one of the first things he attempted as king to Wakanda), he immediately scorned him for it and later on, even switched sides to support Erik when he showed up eventually. And he kept supporting him, without contemplating that decision for the rest of the movie.

They discuss history a few times, especially for when it came down to slavery and all. There was no mention whatsoever as to the major source of the black slaves that the "conquerers" were transporting around the world: namely the multiple wars being fought between African tribes, resulting in a massive amount of prisoners of war that they had to get rid of somehow - and the African tribe leaders ended up selling them off. The bitter irony is that the alternative to slave trade was execution. That dark side of the story regarding slaves and slavery isn't mentioned anywhere.

Furthermore, when they start to rile up for war against (apparently) the white oppressors, someone states that life originated in Africa and therefore all people with African roots should be protected - but then fail to realise that everyone has its roots there, even the "conquerers" if you go back far enough. Furthermore, they make it look like the conquests of centuries ago are still occuring present day, as if justifying launching a conquest of their own.
