Best concerts you've been to

Got the idea for the thread cause yesterday AC/DC held a concert here and I was left speechless.

The guys are IDENTICAL as 25 years ago. It was fascinating. Seriously. Something that's gonna follow me for the rest of my life.

Also my legs still hurt. xD

Let's hear yours, I'd like to see some great memories here.

Best concerts ... there have been some great moments over the years. The newer ones tend to stand fresher in memory for some reason.

Anthony and The Johnssons here in 2009, because it was pure musical magic and we had first row seats.

MUSE in october 2007 was amazing for the pure energy. I was literally close to fainting from dehydration when the show ended. And they played an amazing set.

A Genesis cover band called The Musical Box back in march 2007, because they recreated an almost 35 year old concert so perfectly note by note that when you closed your eyes, it was like being there in the flesh ... incredible. Ironically, I saw the real guys 3 months later, and they didn't leave half the impression - but still, I got to stand 5 feet from Phil Collins for two hours, that has to count for something also.

Jarvis Cocker - was that back in 2006? - because he's the most funny man in showbiz, and he's my idol. Going to see him again this sunday, yay!

First time I saw Runrig back in 2003, because it was fun to see 2000 audience members at my parents age behave like they were my age - and they played an amazing gig.

Eurythmics back in 2001 - or was that 2000? - for the nostalgia ... Annie Lenox rocks.

And last but not least Michael Jackson back in 1997, because it was my first major concert, and the show was second to none.

Coldplay in February this year, Arctic Monkeys in January were great, but the one that stands out was The Prodigy earlier this year, my ears didn't stop ringing for two weeks (honestly, I was worried )
Also The Killers in 2007 I think it was.

I went to see Eric Clapton in March but the crowd was all old people sitting there like this and yeah it was pretty good but not great. His cover of I Shot the Sheriff was cool though.

Yeah ... Unfortunately, I'm not too keen on the new album, but I'm still looking much forward to the concert. Hope he plays 'Disney Time' like last time ... most awesome song ever!

I second Geny on that one. You lucky bastard!

Best concert of my whole existence? Phew... I just gotta say

Gun's n Roses, Rock in Rio, 2001.

I got back home 12:30pm of the following day looking like a clay golem.

At the end of the concert I was lying on grass with a faint smile hearing them praise Rio outloud by singing Paradise city as their last song.

By the way Dagoth, one of the best small proportion concerts I've ever seen was in Lausanne, Switzerland, when the belgian band called "El Guapo Stuntteam" performed live. They have totally driven the audience insane.

They have brought back in me the faith that new bands can still play good ol' hard rock like there is no tomorrow.

Only Two

I have only ever been to two concerts in my entire life. The first was a Janet Jackson concert in Austin Texas in the year 1989 and the other was a Static X concert in Las Vegas Nevada in the year 1999.

I guess it's a concert when people perform on a church stage even if you don't pay for it but for official-ness I don't count them. LoL

I would have to say I was not impressed with either concert that I attended. But I think's it's because I have a fear of crowds. Large groups of people wholly unorganized is terrifying to me. I just get this feeling that you never know what they might do or how they might react enmass. People die from being trampled quite often. Diseases are spread in close quarters. I also feel overwhelmed by projected emotions inside personal private space.

Probably didn't help that I was like 2 metres from the speakers.

You can buy earplugs, however, which solves the problem.

That's difficult to answer.

I've been to some concerts in my life and there have been a lot of awesome moments there. Some memorable moments:

My first ever concert: Black Sabbath, end of 1971. Stunning.
Frank Zappa. Saw him twice, like, 1978 and 1980, I think. Everyone was stoned, I think.

I've seen the Rolling Stones twice, in 1976 and 1991. 1991 was better - a lot -, which says a lot. I'd have liked to see the Stones with Mick Taylor, but it was not to be. Ron Wood was in already in 76, and the Stones were on the way down.

I've seen the Red Hot Chili Peppers twice as well, the first time in 1989 or 90, after they released Mothers Milk; the were pretty unknown then in Europe, and I saw them in a very small club with an audience of maybe 400 or so. 2 years later after Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the arena was a lot bigger.

The concert that FELT best was Portishead. I saw them early 1998 in Düsseldorf. The concert had been scheduled initially for a much smaller location, but got transferred to the much bigger Philipshalle due to the high ticket demand. Came the concert evening the hall was packed - people were even standing in the doorways. During songs you could have heard a pin falling down, after they had played the first couple of songs, and later into the concert, when they would finish a song there was always a moment or two of silence, as if people were coming out of a trance before the applause started to roar. Beth Gibbons has been the best singer by far I've ever seen live - her voice is as incredible in reality as on record. The band itself seemed to have been stunned as well by their reception - Gibbons told the audience they'd never had played in front of so many people before. The whole thing was pure magic and utterly beautiful.

Now, the WORST concert I've ever been to, was probably U2. I went to see them on their When Love Comes To Town Tour with B.B. King. The sound was abysmal for about three quarters of the whole affair, and the whole thing was done in 90 minutes - including encore. Big disappointment.

Alright, I've been to graspop metal meeting a week or two and have been trying to forget it, because I was kicked out the last day (you know, the day when the good bands are playing), because my wrist band wasn't done securely, so i lost it. Yeah, I know, and I paid so much money for that, I was physically hurt. I was crying and stuff and no one said anything nic baout it or tried to comfort so I was fileld with these feelings of hate and anger and powerlesness. Now, I'm past that phase, so i can look back at some performances.

I saw:
Buckcherry:
Now, that one was a special one from the start. Things you don't expect at a metal festival: a tambourine this might be a small complaint but I'm a very sceptical person towards grown men in skinny jeans with tambourines. now, the guy was very energetic which was very redeeming. Now, the crowd was very displeasing...
This emotion:
All the time!
I call it the: Impress-me-motherlover-expression.
Anyway, next came dragonforce andI have to say...
Never have I seen the similarities between prolonged speed guitar solos and masturbation before, until dragonforce came along. They were quite well-known, so the crowd was happier, but I honestly felt used afterwards. Then came Pappa Roach which was quite satisfying.

Next day, we saw korn which I can honestly admit to hating from now on...
The crowd was a sea of bodies pressing me against other bdoies, choking me etc.
It's in these conditions I los my wristband, so that's a double negative for korn right there!

The last band I saw (and which was among the first bands i knew) was slipknot and they were good, energetic, I knew their songs, the crowd was in ecstacy, we were cooled from the hot korn performance (the hose helped) and we were ready to go. It was radiant. Of course, then I lost my wristband, so I'll speak no more of it. Man, what could have been great and cost me a great deal of money, became awful short, and costed me a great deal of money...

So the metal festival blew goats and this is actually how my holidays started so forgive me for being blue. Things have improved since then though
Which goes to show don't hang all your hopes on a metal festival or demand a new wristband when it isn't properly sealed... Your choice, really.

The best little concert I ever had is still a little prize I give to lordi

Unfortunately I have been to a total of 3 concerts.

Charlie Daniels Band.  It was free.  I LOVE CDB..that man can play (a fiddle).  Awesome..and deffinately of the 3 my favorite.

Then there was a NKOTB/Madonna Concert at the State Fair.  My brother took me to this one.  Not a NKOTB fan but I was willing to sit through them for Madonna.  Of course right before Madonna came on it rained her out...not a good time..not a good time.

Finally was a Brit Concert.  Went because one of my friends at the time begged me to, and on record she sounded ok (Brit that is).  I was severely dissapointed.

I want to go to a GREAT concert
