And the third one, well, the Sylvan issue is truely hilarious. I got Swift Mind and, even counting with that, 4 stacks went before anyone of mine in the ATB, so half of my army was destroyed in a blink of an eye.

Well I had the same match up once and got swiftmind as well and a swiftminded puppet master went before any of his units and thus had a huge advantage (I turned out winning and it was against Albo who really is an exceptional player). It is just that swiftmind isn't a very stable skill (I speak from experience since I use it a lot). I had it happen that my Hero plays behind a hero that doesn't have swiftmind (not just once lol...) and I had it happen that I'm the very first to play even if there is a 16 initiative unit on the field and of course anywhere in between.

I had good luck in other ones, like in Azzie's games

Reeeeeeeeally? Naaaah the last one perhaps but the rest would have been winnable if I had been wiser I guess. Against me you're not lucky you're just evil. The universe seriously doesn't want me to beat you it's scary really oO.

EDIT: And sure some match ups are a pain in the behind to play, like Stronghold vs. Academy or say Sylvan vs. Dungeon but they are a pain in the *** on any map. Oh and I believe we've won just as many games due to "pre-favoured" matchups as we've lost so no complaining!

Yesterday I had a final, where my swift minded Urghat played after 10 init enemy druids, but before two groups of arcanes with 11 init.

So it may happen that swift mind does not help at all, but I think calculations in other thread are correct saying that swift mind means average 14 init.

No Empathy trust me. Swiftmind just really fails sometimes, it's that easy. It's still my favourite perk though.

Just for the record in my game vs Lepastur I had +10% for flyers and +5% for small, so seeing dragons, sprites, dancers and unicorns before hero was not that unusual, I think.

What was more unusual is that in 2nd match my Sorgal acted after crossbowmen's turn, lol.

About the ATB
I quote from the manual:

"Starting Combat
When starting a battle, the starting ATB values are randomly decided: each stack receives an ATB value between 0 and
0.25. From there, the ATB values increase the usual way, depending on the stack's Initiative, and the first to reach 1 is
the first to play.

This system allows for some randomization and surprises in combat, forcing the players to adapt their strategies to the
situation. However, high initiative units will still get their first turn before low initiative units, as their ATB value will
increase faster. For example, a Nightmare (Initiative 16) starting at 0 (worst case), would get his first turn before a Pit
Lord (Initiative 8) starting at 0.25 (best case). This means that the Nightmare will always go first, and often act twice
before the Pit Lord can act.

There are many modifying factors to units' initiative (see below), but only a few affect their starting
positions specifically. The Swift Mind ability, available under Logistics, gives the hero a 0.25 bonus to
the starting ATB value, which is then located in the [0.25;0.5] interval. The creatures in the army are
not affected."

This means the druids with 10 init  can start at 0.25 in the best case (or 0.30, maybe he has a Dragon Scale Shield +5%). The hero with swift mind [0.25;0.5] can start at 0.25 in the worst case. And so the creatures stack or hero that hits the 1 ATB will start.

According to this a hero with expert sorcery (13 init) and swift mind will be harder to beat though

Not changing your point but just as a detail: my understanding is that starting position and initiative are different concepts. Therefore Dragon Shiled's 5% does not affect starting position which remains at a max of 0.25. Is this right?

Yep, they are different concepts, but higher initiative makes you go faster from starting ATB (for example 0.25) to 1, thats when you actually start. I'm not sure how this works though but thats what i read in the manual, or am i wrong?

You're right about the starting ATB, it remains 0.25 with or without the dragon scale. I mixed up starting position and starting ATB there

Thats one of them things about Heroes 3 that I miss.. is the reliable order of units.  You knew before entering battle, what the order was gonna be. Could plan and have control of your strategy.

My games with Bliz were concluded, 2-0 in my favour.

First was my dungeon versus necro where I had some sweet damage yet his Zoltan kept blocking one spell after another. His slipper decay was painful but thankfully I had enough mana to finish him off as fast as possible. Somehow the princes failed to torpor in first 2 attacks

Second was my necro vs his inferno, the highlight of the evening. When I saw slippers and meteor/fireball accessible I decided to take my chances with a destructive build with dark as support, arties were kind to me but I wasted a lot of gold in the mentor. Had some trouble getting enlightenment In contrast Bliz tried counterspell - my liches kept disrupting it until the battlefield cleared a bit and it came to hero vs hero. Mass spells helped with my hero timing between counterspells and after I cast vampirism the game was sealed. Mark of the damned was a nice touch.

Exciting game

Replays

Considering the last game I think I earned an unlockable.

1st game I killed more of his stuff than I thought I would; the luck of getting the slippers made necro perform better than usual. Sadly, the library didn't offer earth destructive spells to go with it or I'm almost positive I could have secured a win. Vitality would have been nice to help suck up damage, but I didn't get Defense until late and I avoid the merciless mentor unless over something vital. Don't really regret anything  major from the game. A spike of lag made me miss my torpor on the dragons later, in case you're wondering why I attacked them, though by then I don't think it mattered.

2nd game against his Necro I had Deleb as my main hero and Alastor as my other option: yee haw. Machines are a waste so I went with Alastor despite the useless special for a quick path to counterspell  and then expert dark for vampirism to seal off all ends. Due to a previous game in the Temple I had a hunch he'd go destructive, though I wasn't counting on it being that powerful. The meteors that slipped through were too much and didn't have sufficient army left to take the vamps.

gg for games. You got your revenge, but I'll be back:

So Albo blackmailed me into updating the charts, enjoy. Some are nearing the finish line

Question for those that will participate in the chaos tourney, how much randomness can you handle? Was thinking 1 relic, 2 major, 3 minor but I could place double that amount for the extra wackiness.
