Favorite "Normal" Class

What I mean is non-prestige/unique etc.  Warrior (fighter), Mage, Cleric, Theif, Monk, Ranger, etc.  Why?

Although I play a lot of mage and cleric, I think my favorite may be Monks.  Two normal hands (which can eventually attack many many times) that can do more damage (eventually) then any weapon and hit things that all but the most magical swords can miss (again eventually).  Sure since they don't wear armor, and their fists start out doing less damage then a dagger, they can be hard to keep alive at first.  If you can, however, they become a fighting machine.

Mine are Paladins overall and Wizards second place.

Mainly because I like the idea of defending my ideals as a Paladin. And being very powerfull as a high lvl wizard. Elminster comes to mind.

Mage. Hands down. I like all the flashy-boom effects, and the utility stuff they can do is awesome. (Turn invisible? Breath water? Fly? Yes please! )

Hmmm....The custom classes

OR

ALL Classes, cause all of them are good in their own way, and I play them after my mood. (It's just to hard to pic one "favorite" amongst them all!)

Different kinds of mages/sorcerers! First of all, they are cool and I've always prefered more cunning methods to defeat your obstacles. Secondly it is often the most... researched subject in most games (for instance, a chapter about melee combat is usually a lot shorter than the one about magic) and it also is one of the most pseodu-scientifck subjects (awsome!). If cross classing is allowed I choose a mage/rouge combo... sneaky, fast, deadly and cunning, then enhanced with magical power.

In the end I prefer advanced methods and high damage or speed is funnier to me than lots of life... In a lot of games I do more damage (per hit) than I have life. This way combat is often more challanging as well as having a higher pace.

Rangers/Druids, if I was allowed I'd say a mix.

Nature all the way man. Daggers, dual-wield, bows, wolves and bear companions, smoking weird mushrooms to empower yourself... yeah.

I like warlock and rogue class the most. Both have something rebellious about them.
A warlock is pretty much a magic-user who gained his powers in a non-formal way and in the end boosts a lot of power. In nwn he got unlimited use over all his powers, explaining that a warlock is an individual that drained all his powers from within and spent little time in shaping it and more time in enduring it, so no spell books for them, just infinite eldritch blasts! Later on, they said it was just someone signing a pect with an otherwordly being which I like just as well, this connection with a higher being.

A rogue is just a trickster and a charming guy to boot. The only character that I see wielding a rapier (favourite weapon!) and also a fighter that prefers doing things the smart way, rather than using force. They're also underdogs usually, people who make their own destiny and such...

not sure what is a prestige class right now...
for me, favourite has to be sorceror/eldritch knight with a dash of divine champion? wielding sword & staff

if above doesn't count: fighter with two big weapons ala baldur's gate 2 dark alliance

My favorite class is the Ranger...but supposedly in 4th Ed, they don't cast spells, so boo!

That would make my favorite class in 4th either Fighter (Sword+Shield Style) or Druid.

Interesting choices.  The ones that have the most power later are ususually the least played, because they are harder at the beginning.  Mages, Warlocks, Monks.  When they are played, people tend to overpower them from the beginning.  Really..this is your characters first adventure on their own and they can cast a fireball that levels a city and has 102 magical items from their teacher?  Interesting.

My favorites are the non-combat types (mage, theif, etc) who can go toe to toe with warriors in a face to face fight.  Anyhow, back to the topic at hand.

What was your first character (or first you remember) and what did you like the most about them?

Toughie.

Well, I've never played pen&paper D&D, so my first character (or rather characters) were made for Dark Sun.

Never did get far in the game, but my party was:

Elf Preserver (mage basically; name is just for storyline flavor purposes)
Half-Giant Gladiator (think a Fighter that can use Psionics and has the hit dice of a Barbarian. )
Human Cleric
Half Elf Cleric/Preserver (what...it worked. )

Sometimes I'd use a Thri-Kreen instead of that Human as a Cleric. At higher levels those critters got FOUR natural attacks. Broken PC races ftw.

(Oh, and they can use psionics as a racial bonus. )

As for what I liked...I loved my Elf wizard-thingie. I have always liked Elves (might be because of the Legend of Zelda. ), and well it was fun to pew pew your opponents.

I might have rolled an Elf Ranger at some point in that game, but can't remember.

And then came Baldur's Gate...Elf Ranger ftw (Archer Kit in the sequel)

Hey Dark Sun is cool, I liked playing a pisionic char on that setting! That makes me remember I forgot to add Psionic chars to the list of favorites, I don't know I just find them so cool, power to affect the mind of others and all.

As for my first RPG character I believe it was from that Tabletop RPG game that was sold on toy stores called "Hero Quest" and it was a Barbarian.

I liked that A LOT as a kid.

I used to love using Ego Whip on enemies to keep them from attacking.

Ah, good times.
Never beat the first one, and sure didn't beat the second one either lol.
