One of these days, I'm going to start a "public goods" thread that explains why the government should do certain things and not others, and why taxation to fund it is justified. Until then,

If it's what those people would've wanted anyway, just unable to accomplish by themselves, then it's justified.

If they wanted it sufficiently, they'd have paid for it. They want it, but not sufficiently to pay for it. It's wrong to require money for them for something they themselves decided they didn't want enough to pay for.

I can mention numerous of examples where the most obvious one is the big brother society. Yet everything from war to pollution is pretty sufficient analogies. Heck even a group of traders can be used.

There is an Economics thread or a couple others that I bet you two could hash the out in endlessly for the next few months or so

OH wait, that wouldn't be endless would it? lol

Apparently, you're not familiar with game theory, which explains why we have the public goods problem, even if each individual is willing to pay for it.

You're most welcome to explain in what way your link is relevant to the point you're trying to make, because I'm not going to read all that. Already the beginning seem to have little relevance (and is wrong. The testimony from someone who's biased to make a given testimony does not make it anymore likely the given person is guilty. It's much like the very sad "it's about finding someone who's guilty, not who's guilty", which you often see on tv).

I'd explain, but I don't want to drag this any further offtopic.

Ohfor, believe me if a notorious raper would be in a high security prison alone with 50 female prisoners and 5 female guards, all of them obviously knowing why he was doing his time there - I don't think it would be all that funny for the raper, and I doubt he'd have a lot to laugh.

The analogy fails.

I'm against this because it is very similar to the death penalty. Certain countries gave the death penalty to people that didn't deserve it. Why? Because cops did a poor job, lied or similar. And now they're dead.

I suppose I would be in favor of such for the extreme cases and if my government and it's legal body proved itself to be competent. But that's just not the case.
