Top 3 improvements over H5

I think it will be beneficial to have a list of the top 3 areas where Heroes 6 should improve with respect to Heroes 5. Mine are:

1. Better story and vision about the game.
2. Many more cinematics that are not created via game engine: at least intro or end to every campaign should not be done via game engine.
3. Much less randomness (they already started working here by changing the functionality of the initiative + the way you choose your skills): maybe they can also touch the way spells get chosen inside the mage guild.

Warning: This list is subject to change.

1: New Tier system, less redundancy of the lower tiers, more dynamic army composition, no more "whipping boy" tier 1s: even the humble Skeleton looks AWESOME.
2: Hero Customization, multiple classes, advanced classes, controlled advancement.
3: A fresh faction, whilst I'm sad to see old ones cut, some new blood is always great.

Honorable mention: Areas of control, streamlining the gameplay of invading enemy territory or reclaiming/defending your own.

Thinking about it more, the whole "cinematics told through game engine mechanics" was one of the major things that turned me off from H5.  Seconded.

My list:

1.  More customization with regard to the heroes themselves (i.e. no longer being stuck with either Light Magic or Leadership as choices...for a Necromancer).
2.  Better art style.
3.  Better story engine (as was stated above).

A lot of people are listing cinematics & storyline, neither of which I get excited about.  Mine are:

1)  Heroes will be different (both in skill tree & magic).  This will be much more interesting in multiplayer since I generally always knew what to expect from my opponent.  Now there will be guessing and a whole new freshness to it!

2)  The new categorization of creatures.  I like that we can select a custom amount of each creature, and the lowbies will still be valuable.

3)  New faction and some new creatures.  I love things being fresh.

1. I really hope that factions will have more original creatures again, not like in H5 with 3 different sizes of elves or 3 different sizes of darkelves etc.
2. Serious graphics and thus a darker, more serious feel of the game.
3. Magic system based on elements again.

Sheesh a lot of people care about the graphics I see.
Ah well, guess I'll just go fire up the old Super Nintendo and remind myself what the oldies looked like.
Some things just don't age, pixels the size of my fist yet it's beauty is undeniable.
Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG... classics.

An attractive art style doesn't have to equal advanced and demanding graphics MrDragon, those games you mentioned are good examples of that.

Very true, sorry it is my aversion towards current gen shooters where that feeling is strongest, every new release seems like it's just an engine upgrade with maybe one or two new guns.

Back on topic, don't you have 3 top improvements?

Hmm...

1. Less randomness / more control over hero development
2. Darker atmosphere
3. ADD MY FRICKING SERPENT CULT FACTION *cough cough* umm... some new and interesting faction.

Hmmm ... let me see. At this early point, for me it would be:

1. Might and Magic classes for each faction, i.e. different strategic approaches.

2. Strong focus on making each faction unique in terms of gameplay. I actually felt H5 did pretty good at this, that was more a problem with H3.

3. Hmmm ... perhaps less randomization in Hero development? This could be a great thing if it turns out alright, but it might also kill some of the variation if it turns out that you'll always choose the same development path.

While we're at it, we could discuss top-3 worst features also.

I agree with these, plus:

4. emphasize the multiplayer part(balance factions,maps)
5. less random RPG elements
6. balanced skills, spells...

1. Reduced elements of chance
(This is definitely my favorite so far, I REALLY hate the fact that hero progression is almost entirely random, it can prove to really mess you up in the long run)
2. Better writing/planning plot-wise
(I consider story to be a very important part of any medium, so this is self-explanatory)
3. Revamped creature tier system

Why do so many people care about graphics so much? A more realistic art style is nice and all, but in the end, graphics really take the back seat to things like gameplay and plot in terms of importance... (I thought H5's graphics were fine, though admittedly I'm very tolerant of many graphic styles)

The most important thing in any game for me is immersion. It is what is created for me when you combine sound, graphics, gameplay and story.
If any part is lacking or doesn't fit in with the others, I lose this sensation.

Heroes may be considered a strategy game by many, but for me, it is first and foremost an RPG. I want to lose myself in the world.

That's why graphics are important. Not demanding graphics, but fitting graphics.

2. Focus more on game play than video graphics

1.) expand on core mechanics and cut out chaff/unnecessary stuff (make the spells more dynamic, make treasure hunting more dynamic, don't focus on minute and uncharacteristic elements).
2.) Have plenty of neutral creatures.
3.) come preloaded with plenty of diverse maps to play. (h5 was pitiful in this regard.)

I'm afraid they're pretty much going in the opposite direction with all three things you request.

I think the intent of this thread was, to elaborate.

"What do you think the top 3 biggest announced features are that are improvements to the game."
Not
"The top 3 entries of your wish-list for Heroes 6."

Of course the OP can correct me if I'm wrong.
