DLC robbery is getting even more insolent.

While reading the Fallout: New Vegas info @ wikipedia, I stumbled upon this:

Quote:
DLC

Downloadable content was officially announced to be in the works on August 18, 2010. There is no information out about any of the DLC that is being worked on, only that they will be published "shortly after release"

Seriously? You're telling us that you're deliberately cut off something from a game YET TO BE RELEASED and put a pricetag on it already?

This is madness. This is impudent beyond belief. They didn't even ATTEMPT to pretend extra content was developed after the release and hence selling it as separate expansion pack or even that dreaded DLC is justified...

There were times where content that hasn't made it in the game due to deadlines was released for free in subsequent patches, or improved and sold as expansion pack.

Now we can buy a game for say 30$ and then download a new sword or gun that has been purposefully cut off to sell it for 5$ later...

Or we can make a game on our own

As long as people will pay for handicaped product, developers will make money of them. So simple.

True. I'm not against money making; after all everything that isn't "amateur" work revolves around getting as much money as possible.

But they could at least PRETEND they are fair and aren't thinking about milking people off their money even before the game is released by releasing little overpriced chunks of binary crap.

I agree in basic principle, but it's not like developers are overpaid rockstars dining on caviar and champagne every night. Dev budgets are getting bigger all the time as the industry's "prestige" increases, and your average publisher doesn't give a rat's ass whether or not the game is finished; those annoying workers they've been funding have got to keep the lights on somehow, and if that entails throwing out minor extra crap after release at cost to boost the project's total profits, so be it.

As I said: business is dirty and cruel.

But saying outright that "they are working on DLC" before the damned game is released is like saying "we're cutting off some game content to milk you guys up those few bucks."

DLC idea is stupid as **** anyway, but some companies at least have the courtesy to treat it like "optional game additions being developed after the game is made and released" and not "cut off content made solely for draining more cash from your pocket".

It's always the second option anyway, but acting as if it's the first one sounds a tiny bit better, don't you think?

And while were at it, im gonna say that New Vegas will require atleast 3 patches to have basic playability, with full game experience coming only after 11.5 patches have been released.

But you could also easily argue that it'd be extremely discourteous if they didn't tell you DLC was coming. Now you know before buying that the full game isn't on offer.

For the game Oblivion I simply didn't buy any DLC.  And since I didn't like the game I didn't buy any expansions either.  In a year Fallout "ultra mega complete" with all the game versions and all the DLC will be for sale for at most fifty usd right?

I pretty much agree with doom that dlc is a bad idea for the consumer, not really seeing Cepheus point that the average peon coder is benefiting from a DLC.

To be honest i feel the same when i hear "we are planning 2 expansions" for Heroes X game.

There were times when expansions happened if there was need for them, and weren't planned ahead of time.

Wtb release date of latest H6 expansion so i can start saving money for the finished game. After buying H4 and h5 vanilla I'm no more doing so until there is complete package with latest expansion.

I realize its not really DLC, but I don't see much difference.

Remember Kane&Lynch 2?
That one had DLC on it already and you had to pay for the code to unlock it.

Quite funny really, how far they're willing to go to punish honest customers.

Same thing with Soul Calibur IV.

360 version had Yoda
PS3 version had Darth Vader

Some time after the release they let you download the other version's bonus character for a price. But you're not actually downloading the character, you're actually downloading a little code that unlocks a character that is already on the disc, ready with story and everything.

Kinda lame...

That's why this is madness. They can aswell release redeem codes for higher resolution, option to turn on music, ingame cinematics... after all they are not REQUIRED to play the game and can ALSO count as "extra content" to be cut off in order to get another few bucks...

... oh wait, I hope none of the developers heard that.

to think there were once times where planning an expansion ahead in the day of release was considered bad-mannered...

Expansion packs once originated from a game's spectacular success and fans' strive for more. They were rarely planned from the start and were rarely even made...

Well, it will come with a campaign, extra castle, units, maps, spells, game mechanics (if it will be like other HOMM expansions were, that is). It won't be a pack of three units and one map sold for 5$.

The preorder version (called the signature edition) of Dragon Age2  will feature "over $20 of additional content, the Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition includes the full version of Dragon Age II, along with a download code for an additional playable character and new missions, the Dragon Age II digital soundtrack, an exclusive in-game digital armory featuring a variety of in-game weapons and other digital in-game items.

The Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition will only be available for pre-order and online purchase on or before January 11, 2011."

Yes, the "DLC" and "extra" crap is getting out of hand.

In case of Fallout, then no.

Each fallout 3 dlc was a bug nest.

Nope. Dragon Age, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, all heavy-DLC games, were also the most bugged games ever.

Dragon Age, just like Baldur's Gate, swam in bugs. Without downloading around 50 fanmade separate fixes for the vanilla game from dragonagenexus, don't play it.

Fallout 3 was bugged as hell and every DLC added new bugs.

New Vegas is the biggest joke of them all. Despite I like the game, it's beyond "bugged". Every page you open on falloutwiki - about a quest, person or a gun - has a BUG section containing 4-5 entries.

What a joke. Oh, cheer up dudes, a 30min mission priced 5$ is on the way. Free bugs included.

Only encountered 1 bug in 3 playthroughs.

Well, im not sure about a case, I had a fight with some Deathclaws and they took 1 dmg and showed the shield sign when I shot them with a nearly full repaired fat man

Oh btw, they said that the first dlc is an xbox360 exclusive
