Yes.
There are no major or minor skills. You just do what you want and it levels up as you use it. Skills on higher level increase more slowly but contribute more to your leveling up.
Attributes have been reduced to Health, Magicka and Stamina. When leveling up you get to choose and increase one of them. Your skill increases prior to leveling up has no effect on this choice.
It's very smooth and balanced.

That's encouraging.
I was all excited when playing Oblivion, then as I figured out how the mechanics of the game worked I just totally flipped out over how stupid I thought it was. Naturally, I designed a custom class with my character, cause there's no way I would settle for a premade one  . I was a Khajiit Bandit.
I have three people in my life gibbering about this game and it's slowly making me want to try it.

Yeah I hated the system too... though once I realized how broken it was I had already played for 5x the amount of time I'd put into a normal game so...
There's an absolutely excellent mod called Oblivon XP that makes the leveling system way more enjoyable.
Can't play Oblivion without it. Or well.. after playing Skyrim I won't ever go back to it...
Mods are already pouring out btw

The leveling is quite interesting, I have a Nord level 11, which took about 10 hours of gameplay (all friday and saturday) to get there. And this morning, I made a dark elf, to see how the stealth and archery works. and in less than three hours gameplay I already came to level 9, thanks to stealth and smithing. Lovely.

Yeah my character catapulted in level once I picked up smithing... just bought leather and iron and made like 300 iron daggers ^^
Ah... just had a cool moment...
VULD VULD VULD VULD *catapults around town with Whirlwind Shout*
Guard: "Could you please stop shouting? People get nervous."
Me: "Ok... so sorry" *sadface*
I just got disciplined... I didn't even think they could notice. Embarrassing, must've looked like a total idiot

I see that noone loved Oblivion that much and then I've seen it got 9.3/10 from Gamespot, 95/100 from PC gamer and 94/100 from Metacritic. I'm confused  And now Skyrim also has the same ratings, nothing under 9.
So what would you rate Oblivion and Skyrim out of 10? I actually got curious about this series.

Gah!
Not touching until someone mods a proper interface to it. The current one is a pain to deal with.
Also, no skippable prologue? Screw this crap!
Now I'm stuck with an effing female darkelf.

Last game I played in this genre was MM6 and 7 - Is this game anything like those games ?
How is the run/walk done - By aswd or arrows or ??
@Adrius - reguarding your last screenie - why sneak and archery, I don't see any critters ....

Should work fine... might cause some bugs, I dunno.
What's wrong with the interface btw? I think it works really smooth.

EDIT:
Btw, Expert difficulty is way more enjoyable than the standard Adept. I recommend it.
@Nocturnal: The thing about Oblivion is that its flaws do not become noticeable until you've played it for a long while. If you do not analyze it and just enjoy the freedom and atmosphere it offers, it's definitely a 9/10. This is why all the reviews rate the game so high.
It's when you become more experienced with the game that you start to notice all these small and major flaws that just drive you insane and pushes down the game to like 6/10... fortunately mods exist for PC at least. Chocolatly Moddy Oblivion is a 10/10.

9.8/10? Nah, sorry, can't believe that this is objective. I wouldn't give even The Witcher II which I adore more than 9.0/10, maybe 9.5/10 at most. The game which is so close to 10/10 has to be better than the goddamn real life!

So far Skyrim is a 9/10 for me.
The -1 is for some bugs and that companions have very little personality, 'least the ones that I've found. There are a LOT though... basically anyone that you befriend can come with you on your travels.
I find them annoying though, I prefer to travel alone.
EDIT:
Holy mudcrabs Dragonplate Armour is awesome. I love the comments I get from people on the street about it too, makes ya feel so special ^^

The Thalmor will kill you regardless of what you say really, you're a Talos worshipper by default to them ^^
Or maybe it's just because I'm a Nord... wonder if they take more kindly to an Altmer character perhaps...
