My improved H6 factions

Here are my ideas for improved H6 factions:

Necropolis: Unchanged. I think it's perfect as it is, except the Vampire shouldn't look exactly like Arthas from Warcraft 3/WoW.

Haven:

Core: Sentinel, Longbowman/Sharpshooter (changed weapon and abilities), Priest/Bishop (a male version of the Sister)
Elite: Griffin, Glory, Cavalier/Solar Champion (only the upgrade rides the sun-horse)
Champion: Seraph/Nemesis (becomes more androgynous- is hooded with light hiding its face, upg. has four wings)

Inferno:

Core: Gog/Magog (melee unit), Succubus (ranged unit), Orthos (upg. is the three headed Cerberus)
Elite: Efreet/Efreet Vizier (spellcaster), Tormentor, Breeder
Champion: Pit Fiend

Stronghold:

Core: Warrior, Goblin (ranged boomerang attack), Gnasher/Frenzied Gnasher (a fast melee unit, a monstrous beast which looks like a large wolf with spines on its back and boar's tusks)
Elite: Hag/Crone (spellcaster- replaces the Dreamwalker), Troll (a regenerating heavy melee unit), Rainbow Serpent (a flying unit from Australian Aboriginal myth)
Champion: Cyclops

OR, a more Beastmen oriented Stronghold:

Harpy, Goblin, Orc
Centaur, Minotaur, Hag
Cyclops

Sanctuary/Naga:

Core: Reef Hunter/Reef Warrior (the shark-man_, Kappa, Basilisk/Deadeye Basilisk (its gaze now kills- the Medusa gaze turns to stone)

Elite: Medusa/Gorgon (has a geisha dress), Wave Samurai/Tidal Samurai (with four and 6 hands respectively), Cloud Ray/Storm Ray (a flying manta ray with electrical powers)

Champion: Ki Rin

And here's Academy and Dungeon, for the sake of it

Academy

Core: Gremlin, Nomad, Golem
Elite: Mage, Djinn, Ogre (a semi-Demonic, magical tatooted giant)
Champion: Collosus

Dungeon (Faceless faction- Dark Elves weren't created yet):

Core: Troglodyte, Watcher/Beholder, Gargoyle
Elite: Drake Rider, Hydra, Minotaur
Champion: Domintator (a Faceless unit)

Opinions?

I hate your sanctuary faction, it's a gross missuse of Naga.

The other factions on the other hand are fine. I enjoyeed that you made a faction for the faceless to command even if you did use them as a way to bring back the old dungeon faction. I always wanted to see more of the facless.

Isn't there only one Naga?

Also here's my compulsory lore whine: Minotaurs were enslaved by Elves, not Faceless .

I wonder what other Faceless units we could think of: Overmind maybe, and make them Psionic-based (or is that too Mindflayer-ish)?

I don't really like your Inferno and Stronghold. I think Ubi's is better.

Strange, you have Academy and Dungeon in there, but not Sylvan.

Sylvan

Well, here's my Sylvan:

Core: Basilisk/Deadeye (tank), Ranger/Master Ranger, Dryad/Hamadryad (flyer)

Elite: Glade Maiden/Forest Lady (an Elf maiden riding a Unicorn- a caster with some melee capabilities), Ripping Mantis/Crystal Mantis (a fast and deadly flying assault unit), Dendroid/Raging Dendroid

Champion: Firebird/Phoenix

And the Naga Champion becomes Ki-Rin once more...

Ok I like the monsoon whitch. But I donot see the common thread uniting these units. How is a Manta ray related to a Basilisk, and how is that related to a Naga, and how is that related to a Mudusa?

The faction seems to be modled heavly after the Ubihole Naga faction, but from what I've seen so far that faction needs a complete and total overhaul.

Since this a Naga faction I think it is also important to ask what a Naga is.

Well, the Naga theme is aquatic lizard-thingies, alongside some fish (shark and manta ray). The original Naga according to Buddhist myth (which is where they come from) is a powerful snake-being with mystical powers, like fire breathing, sometimes with multiple heads, who is usually the guardian of sacred places. Naga statues are seen in many temples in Thailand, Cambodia etc. In HOMM myth, according to my understanding, they are the snake-like children of Shalassa the Water Dragon. They guard her underwater realm, and are therefore allied to other creatures of the deep like the Shark-people, the Basilisk/Ki Rin, Kappa and the Rays. The Medusa, Sirine and Samurai are the true Naga units of the Sanctuary- the rest are allied creatures.

Naga come from Hinduism maybe. The Naga deity Manassa might acctully be from Aryan myths meaning that tales of Naga would be from even before Hinduism. No matter.

The first thing I suggest you do is dispose of blatent refrences to Japanese culture. As you may have noticed in your research Japan was never as deep into Naga legends as Cambodia, Thailand and India is (these countries still have people that worship Naga). Instead you could make their culture more like south east Asian culture or better yet give them an entirly new culture not heavily based on any culture we humans have made.

The second thing I suggest you do is to stop thinking of Naga as just reptlian mermaids, for this is an over simplification of what a Naga is. Rather what really makes a Naga a Naga is that they are symbols of fertilty, water, and arcane knowledge the fact that they are usialy (but not always) reptlian is inmaterial.

People would pray to Naga for a good crop and they would try to appease Naga so they would not create storms or droughts (Hence I like your Monsoon whitch).

The Third thing I suggest you do is research creatures called Garuda. You don't have to include one in your group of units, but do research them.

After doing these three things tell me what is wrong with your units. And so you know that my opinon dosen't come from no where I want you to see the Naga faction I proposed. http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=32565

Nagas are from the Hindu culture that started in India. Every other country like Cambodia and Thailand have Nagas cuz they were conquered by Indian kingdoms of old and hence embraced Hinduism. The Nagas were snakes, not half man, half snakes. They lived underwater and could take the form of men, women or half snakes, half men. They were both good and evil and fiercely territorial and venomous. the word naga in sanskrit means snake.
In any case, they're not real. So its perfectly ok for anyone to create their own version of the naga. be they japanese naga, american naga or whatever. doesn't really matter.

Well there's some interesting stuff there. it'd be easier to make sense of the whole thing if it was arranged like:
Faction
Core
Base > Upgrade  (description)
Base > Upgrade  (description)
Base > Upgrade  (description)

Elite
Base > Upgrade  (description)
Base > Upgrade  (description)
Base > Upgrade  (description)

Champion
Base > Upgrade  (description)

There are indeed dipictions of Naga as half snakes and half humans.

http://www.khandro.net/mysterious_naga.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Naga182.JPG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indischer_Maler_um_1640_001.jpg

To say those formes were not their true form is arbituary and not important to what a Naga realy is.

There is even a story where a human marries a Naga and bares children with her which are said to be the ancestors of the Cambodian people. Also it is inaccurate to say India conqured all the areas that Naga legends exist. Hinduism spread just fine with Indian salors. Conquest not needed.

As for you Hiddeneye...It is true you can make this Naga faction however you wish, but I think you have the potential to make this faction and other factions not just adaquate but truly great. Something better than my Naga faction and deffintly something better than Ubihole's faction. What say you?
