- No sweat, I'm too am a bit dissappointed at the mercs. In my service for two whole weeks.- Domerth laughed.- two weeks is only enough ride to the Khuronian lands and that's only if you're lucky. It'll be a long march to the deep north. Still, if he ever shows up I'd like to see him defeated in the norn sports.

Deep within the cold north, in the heart of the lonely mountain where the Sage Barash hid the Tomes, an entity started to awake. The being slowly materialised into the material world. The being's entering unleashed a wave of cold, chilling energy which was felt by every shaman, from young aspirants to the eldest of farseers.
The being breathed the cold, dusty air of the chamber. It's blood red eyes glowed brightly and radiated with dark, brooding hatred. The being was like a shapeless cloud. A cloud of pitch black smoke. The creature laughed, it's laughter echoing through the vast labirynth, as the being flew towards the outside world. It once again awaited those few who were searching for HIS treasure.
Back at Kunn, Taruss felt that energy and shuddered. He looked towards north and said:
- It's begun.
Sahatt had finished the ritual. He bound few of the Dark Riders to his will. They were his eyes from now on.
The riders were all equally tall, and bore battle axes encrusted with rubies. Each kneeled before the elder medicine man.
- Now my servants. Follow them Urusshans, steal their blades. Let them lead you to the tome, take it, and return with it to me.- the look in his eyes changed that to a madman.- Return with the codex and be free of the curse that binds you.

Joshua rubbed his arm and forehead again. He walked past the men while they fished. He waved to them with his torn arm. "Hello. I think I'm ready to lose to you soon, Snorbald, just give me a few minutes to get ready."

- It finally woke up. - Taruss said.- a powerfull being entered our world. In the written sources it's often named as "The Shadow". I don't know much about it, only that it guards the codexes like a mother bear guards her cubs if not more viciously. Very few had survived an encounter with it so the knowledge about it is scarce at best. Still I think that our chances against it are better than those before us.

Thorald had spent the last days walking around in the village and outside the village, hunting, fishing, telling stories to all who would listen and generally having a good time. Then came the dinner and the strange feeling.
It felt like someone had just slid ice down Thorald's spine, his vision became clouded by mist his ears felt like someone was screaming in them and he had this undeniable feeling that someone was watching.
But the feeling past away shortly and Thorald just shuddered the remains off. "That was...unpleasant. I take it that you felt it too." Thorald said and looked upon the one who had fallen backwards and then over to Taruss who explained what it was.
"Yes, that sounds logical." Thorald started to laugh and smile "Well atleast this confirms it. You have found out where the tome is! Hah! The adventure has begun at last!"

- I've known the location for some time, however it puzzles me that it woke up just now.- Taruss said and passed the loaf of bread to Bograd.- It should've woke up two months ago, when I discovered the location. Strange...
- What interests me most, is how it nows when to wake up- Said Bograd while slicing the bread.- However, you Taruss said that it's nature is very bizzare.
- I think that The Shadow is actually is Barash. Or a part of his being.

As Rhain was meditating on his staff, he too felt the strange force. He observed it as much as he could, and observed from where he came. He entered the hall to hear the others talk about it. He was correct according to their talking. He then joined the conversation and said, "I feel as if this being is bending the winds to push us towards it. Something will happen if we do not get there in time. I can feel it. We should go soon."

- Yes, but for now let's just enjoy the dinner.- Domerth said, while passing around plates with freshly caught asp steaks served with dill potatoes.
- Some decades ago a traveler who claimed to went oversea to the west brought this plant. At first we thought that it's berries were edible, however they tasted awful. Father wanted to get rid of them, untill one crafty farmer found out that the plant's true fruit grows underground.- Domerth explained the origin of the vegetable.
- I wonder where's that merc. I saw him shouting over the river, but it's been a few hours ago.- Vishan wondered.
- He'll come up. Eventually- Taruss smiled.

"I'll bet you my blades that I didn't." Joshua said cheerfully from behind the man. The boy was sporting a decently sized bandage on his arm and was wearing a new cloak. A red, recent scratch mark burned angrily on his forehead.
To Taruss, he said, "A point of clarification, by two weeks of service, I meant that after all is said and done with our quest and come home, no matter how long that takes, I will give you two more weeks of my lifetime. Does that sound acceptable to you?"
((After he gets and answer))

- You'd lose the bet Nordskib. The shores of the confluence are shallow at best. There are even some places where water is only up the waist- Said Domerth.- I personally thought that Joshua went for a stroll in Loidha. The fiends there are more vicious than the rabid vampires in the Black Grove.
- Don't bother with the healing spells, you can make it worse- Said Taruss.- I have a salve that will heal them quickly. And also, if any of your men will be cought misbehaving, there be far worse punishment than the stocks. The duo will be released right before we depart.

((I was saving this for later, but Gnomes is acting like a brake. Hopefully this will accelerate the pace))
The four riders stepped on a hill and overlooked Kunn. Their winged steeds were black as the blackest night. The riders' eyes glowed brightly red from underneath their cloaks. The steeds neighed, frightening the peasantry as the riders galloped to Kunn. As soon as they reached the chief's hall they dismounted and attacked the bearers of the Blades((Domerth, Joshua, Thorald and Vishan)). Domerth parried the attack and retaliated. Lightning sparks danced across the blade. His oponent was startled, but continued to attack. Taruss came to aid his brother and started his signature summoning of spirit wolwes. On such short notice, he was able to summon two of the wolves, which immediatly pounced on random attackers. Vishan assumed his stoneform and dueled intensively with his oponent, giving him little chance to launch a counter attack.
Domerth again clashed blades with his adversary. The discharge of lightning shocked the rider.
- You're strong.- the being spoke with a hissing lisp- You are worthy to become one of us. But you will die, human!
Domerth didn't gave into the fiend's taunting and continued to attack. He cought a glimpse of Omutt who swang his gigantic mace at one of the riders. Meanwhile, Taruss and Bograd joined forces to summon and maintain the spirit beasts for as long as possible. Bograd's beast was a bear.
The skirmish was going on. Drained by the stoneform, Vishan reverted back to his normal self and did his best to push back his oponent.

The riders dismounting had given Joshua all the time he needed to draw both of his blades. "Let's finish this conversation later, 'kay?" He leveled both of his blades the the fiend approaching him and took a loose stance. The fiend hissed and attacked, slicing the air in between them with its blade. Joshua nimbly dodged and batted the black sword to the side with a quick spin. One of the wolves hit the creature when the gap was presented. A small blast of black energy knocked the animal off the fiend as it rose.
"Tch. Annoying little vermin, aren't you?" It whispered from below the hood. It's red eyes narrowed as it looked at Joshua. "Interesting. If things go unchanged, you will become one of us. No matter..." It drew a second blade, "You will die with the rest of them."
"...'Kay. Hold no bars or blows then, eh?" He dropped back into his first stance. "This I can do."

Domerth blocked the fiends battle axe, with the sword releasing electric jolts, shocking his adversary.
"A vital basterd, aren't you"- Thought Domerth as he dueled with it. He managed to hit the rider in the chest and the right shoulder, however the fiend seemed to be unaffected by the injuries. Vishan had a little more trouble with his adversary, as being in stoneform had almost drained his strenght. However he used the remnant of it to try and overpower his oponent.
While the battle raged on, Taruss focused on the man who sent the fiends. He needed just a few more minutes to complete the spell.
