My point was you've to weaken yourself to a certain degree before being able to cope with such kind of event. If the event never happens you're at a serious disadvantage, compared to someone who did not prepare for said event. In this case, comparing to the example I gave, you're the guy who in 33% (plague games) always wins, and otherwise in 67% (non-plague games) wins 25% of the times, against an opponent who never prepares for the plague.

Am I? Because I never have the problem that I have to little gold to keep my town from developing. If I run into a problem it's always the other rescources.

Well, I'm not really interested in discussing game strategy, especially since we might be playing two different games. However it's usually agreed upon that the best strategy even for poor maps is to buy monster buildings before you go for economy stability, simply because with more monsters you can beat more of the map and that gives you money faster than what your town typically can produce anyway. It means the likelyness for a lot of unbuyable monsters in the early stage of the game, especially when you want your level 7 buildings, etc. for a clear advantage a few weeks later in the game, is rather high.

In practice, it's like the difference of 8 Devils (2/3) or 4 Devils (1/3) versus 6 Devils (the guy who always buys everything at the end of the week).

They already said that the weeks follow a certain schedule, but it's random what week the game starts at.

That depends on your gold collection on the adventure map which is highly variable from game to game, purely on your starting money and income off of one town without a gold mine, you will run out of cash during town development even if you try to rush your Capitol in HoMMIII OR HoMMV.
Presuming you hired at least enough creatures to creep with a second hero.

They also said that some special weeks could still happen randomly (like plague)
