I gave up after about 3 weeks. Diablo 3 is a major let-down in my book. Easily one of the most over-hyped, overrated games of the current generation.

Quote: @Doomforge....did you et the game yet or what's going on ? - Eagerly awaiting your final verdict. And, who knows, maybe we can hook up sometime for some gear hunting and whatnot
It's too expensive for me atm - also, I keep hearing it's badly balanced, so I'm planning to wait for 1st expansion pack - let's face it, D2 blowed without LoD, W3 blowed without TFT, I don't expect a different story here.
Quote: You could play D2 through 50 times if not more more, because of each character could be build in so many ways.
Necromancer: Bonemancer, Cursemanser, Summoner, Skellymancer and so on..
Amazon: Bowazon, Javazon, Fendazon and so on..
Sorcerer: Blizzard, Meteor, Cainlightning, Weatherwoman, OrbWall, BlizzBall, OrbBall, MeteOrb, HydraOrb etc. etc. etc.
--My way to say, blizzard! Go home and reinvent Diablo 3, and push it 5 years more to make it full of options and possibilities.. At least try to make it better than D2.
I think you should take into consideration that D2 is a product after years of patching. take 1.00 version of Diablo2 without Lord of Destruction - it's a MESS. The balance is horrible, the list of possible builds is tiny and there's nearly no items to hunt. No runes, no runewords, no good unique items, no class items, only 5 classes, most skills OP or useless.... sounds familiar? Yes, it's a pity that Diablo 3 goes through the same period (as if they didn't learn from D2), but I'm rather optimistic about its future: I bet the expansion and 1-2 patches will solve most of the game's problems. That's why I'm not going to waste my time on vanilla D3.

Patch 1.0.4 is supposed to come out the last week of August. It will address some stuff that needs fixing but they'll still have more to do. At least they are now listening more to fans and making some of the changes that need to be made.
Patch Preview
Diablo 3 faces a big problem in what do about dupes. Dupes are confirmed to be in the game. What do you do if somebody payed real world cash for his duped gear off the Real Money Auction House? Does Blizzard let him keep the gear or do they delete the gear? If they delete the gear are they going to give the the few hundred bucks he spent on the gear? There are no ladder resets in D3 so a dupe is never going to "go away" (or go to a non-ladder status unless Blizzard deletes it.

I have not played D3 in a while. Evidently last week Battlenet 2.0 was hacked and passwords stolen. If you have not changed your password you should. The below is an official post from Blizzard on its official website.
Clicky
Quote:
Players and Friends,
Even when you are in the business of fun, not every week ends up being fun. This week, our security team found an unauthorized and illegal access into our internal network here at Blizzard. We quickly took steps to close off this access and began working with law enforcement and security experts to investigate what happened.
At this time, we’ve found no evidence that financial information such as credit cards, billing addresses, or real names were compromised. Our investigation is ongoing, but so far nothing suggests that these pieces of information have been accessed.
Some data was illegally accessed, including a list of email addresses for global Battle.net users, outside of China. For players on North American servers (which generally includes players from North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia) the answer to the personal security question, and information relating to Mobile and Dial-In Authenticators were also accessed. Based on what we currently know, this information alone is NOT enough for anyone to gain access to Battle.net accounts.
We also know that cryptographically scrambled versions of Battle.net passwords (not actual passwords) for players on North American servers were taken. We use Secure Remote Password protocol (SRP) to protect these passwords, which is designed to make it extremely difficult to extract the actual password, and also means that each password would have to be deciphered individually. As a precaution, however, we recommend that players on North American servers change their password. Please click this link to change your password. Moreover, if you have used the same or similar passwords for other purposes, you may want to consider changing those passwords as well.
In the coming days, we'll be prompting players on North American servers to change their secret questions and answers through an automated process. Additionally, we'll prompt mobile authenticator users to update their authenticator software. As a reminder, phishing emails will ask you for password or login information. Blizzard Entertainment emails will never ask for your password. We deeply regret the inconvenience to all of you and understand you may have questions. Please find additional information here.
We take the security of your personal information very seriously, and we are truly sorry that this has happened.
Sincerely,
Mike Morhaime

Oh, i didn't think of that :S When i started playing diablo 2, the latest patch was 1.3c, i i have no intensions on upgrading to 1.3d ;p
But i've read some details about the diablo 3 patch. They are going to remove the damn Shields on some Uniques, and remove the "My minions is indestructible unless you kill me first" thing. Among alot of other needed upgrades

Havent finished it, got boring, the game is slightly broken and has issues.... Will get back to it after its properly patched and then I might be able to kill that spider chick and her little minions, had some fun with it though, not gonna lie...
The dumbest (greed related move) move they made was to make it an online game, fans cant make amazing patches and those bloody lag deaths just suck the fun out of the game ... its a shame really

I would say the inverted power distribution is the biggest problem of D3. You start godlike, end a wimp. Honestly, it just takes the fun out of leveling, cause with each level you're getting weaker compared to monsters.
Where are the times where you start weak, end strong? Much more satisfying if you ask me.

I think games need to find some sort of a balance, instead of being god/wimp at the end, inbetween would work for me, but agree with you, spending ten minutes on an elite pack in act 3 is retarded (especially when drops are as lame as they are) its one of the main reasons the game got boring fast.. (last time I checked there were only 200 people present in games, epic fail )

yup, for a game like Diablo, people want action, and there's 0 action if you try to beat overpowered mobs for 3 mins with your super weak char.
I thought that most D3 complaints comes from dissatisfied D2 fans who would bash anything just because it's different, but the massive exodus of players from D3 points out that there's something really screwed up about this game. Pretty sad, since they say it's been in development for 12 years...

Quote: To all who've got this far. When you play diablo 3, is it similar to diablo 2 in the fashion that it's always the same quests, the same monsters, the same localities, etc.?
E.g. in Diablo 2, you'd always go from act 1 rogue camp through the lands to the catacomb to defeat Andariel, so you could travel to the desert, find the staff, go through the palace and finding the lost tomb, so you could travel to the swamps, defeat the priesthood, so you could go to hell, defeat diablo, just to be too late to stop baal at harrogath. Is it basicly the same with diablo 3, i.e. different characters, but always the same world? If not, how does it differ?
Same world, same 4 acts, same linear scenario, randomized maps/monsters/events though...

Nothing special, while playing diablo you hear a ring, open the door and there is a stripper holding a cake on your doorstep, random events and stuff in RL....
Basically random quests spawning throughout the game, unrelated to the main story...

I think it is warrior, sorcerer and rogue, but I'm not sure, because I've only been told about the game by a friend. He told me he got rogue so he got to fight the butcher, but if the event had been someone else, I guess maybe he'd have fought someone else? Not sure though. Also something about a quest, which gives you goldskin armor, which makes you immune against diablo's magic attacks. Again I'm not really sure.
Yeah it was those three, but I dont recall us not fighting the butcher there.. anyhow, in d3 you have a story, 4 acts all in a different location, each act has 8-10 quests (except for act 4 which has 4 quests) you have to complete the regular quests and you have to fight all the same bosses however you have random quests throughout your gameplay which means you're on quest 3 in act 1 and suddenly you see some dude with a star above his head, you click on him he gives you a quest, you can choose whether to do it or not (side-quest) if you do you can get an achievement and exp + item + gold or whatever.... if you quit the game and restart it, you're still on quest 3 in act 1 but it doesnt mean you'll get the same side quest again, its random hence random events....

MP is brilliant ! nuff said ....
Hehe, mp10...I ahe also been there thinking I could quickly rinse and repeat the outskirts of New Tristram ( with 450 + MF ) for some easy peasy yellows or even a legendary.
Man was I wrong, ordinary zombies / walking deads with 7.2 mill hp...not likely
With my decent, not great, Demon Hunter I usually farm on mp 2-3 ( while still enjoying the game ) and if some of my buddies are on line we usually crank it up to mp3-5
Totally loving it....
*points at DF......c'mon man start playing already *
