Instead of damage you could have a % of armour penetration, a lucky 'chink in the mail' if you will.
So that isn't already included under the concept of damage range?

On reality terms. In multiplayer they were almost never used because the risk of never getting them was too great, custom builds are still better than the lame skill requirements for the absolute and you cannot creep seriously with those skills anyway. There were more reasons but that's the basic idea why it was pointless to even try. It might work against a casual player but almost never against an experienced one.

As such it was a failed idea of an interesting concept.

The thing is though that some factions had better paths leading to ultimate than others:

Orcs - Ultimate is worthwhile and needs Attack and Leadership to get it which are MUST have skills for Orcs - so good to go for.
Warlock - Ultimate was okay but the skills needed were beneficial to the warlock route being Sorcery, Destructive, Luck (esp Warlock's luck).
Demon, Necro, Nature were good ultimates too with skills beneficting the respective factions.
Haven, Dwarves, Wizard - crap. (dwarves need dest and summ where summ magic is non-existent in town magic guild!)

Nonetheless, unique builds adapting to your environment (spells in magic guild, skill tree level ups, arcane libaries, etc.) was the best strategy and what made H5 such a great replayable game....

Great ideas. I think most of us alredy wished lots of these! I've thought of weather before. And diplomacy... peace negotations... Uniting against a more powerful foe... Trading... Yeah, I'd kill for trading. For more resource managment overall, actually. To have some deposits in a ceratin town, which are required for building. If you lack some resources in one town, send them from another.

Btw, I think morale managment was the best in H4. E. G., If a side was losing a battle, morale would decrease!
