Aleron frowned at the fire that night, displeased. Either his companions were neglecting his missives or they were all dead—neither possibility inspired great confidence in the success of the venture as a whole.
He spent the night plotting his next moves and in the morning, prepared spells for a long journey. After breakfast he approached Walker.
"There is business I need to attend to at the capitol. You are welcome to accompany me of course, but I know it is far out of your usual domain."

Walker sort of chuckles. "My domain is a bit larger then you might suspect. I will journey with you, but I must caution that is my habit I will not always be with you." he looks at you. "Normally I would be able to keep in touch regardless, but there has been something..amiss lately. Some force has been..intercepting messages sent by most magical means."

He nods, and you teleport to the Capital. You do notice that there has been some progress in repair. Seems a small group of soldiers had been out in the field when things hit the fan. The highest ranking of them is a Sgt., but he has taken charge of getting things back in order. Doing a heck of a job too, the progress is amazing. Tents for the sick and injured have been put up, food and supplies have been put in an orderly fashion, and there is general order.
Refugees (who were far enough from towns and villages to have been left alone) who can have been recruited to help those who need help, rebuild, etc. It is not a LOT of people, but it is an admirable start.
Not long after you appear there is a convoy seen in the town, a minor Baron (not as high ranking as you, but would still be one of the higher ranking people left) is coming into town.

Kerym walks in, and heads up to the innkeeper. He gets the keeper's attention, then pulls Brooke close.
"Hello. We heard of this place from someone, and they said we should request the...what was it? Oh right, the Moonlight Honeymoon Suite."
Kerym turns his head to Brooke, smiling big.

Not missing a beat Brooke giggles, and throws her arms around your neck. "Oh..and make sure we are not disturbed!"
The innkeeper chuckles and nods, giving you the price..once you have paid (1gp..honeymoon suites are NOT cheap) he says. "Enjoy your stay!"

He almost starts to walk away, but then turns to the keeper.
"Um, which way would we go to find it?"
Once they get its location, they head to the suite.

Well you find the room, but nothing that special about it. Definitely a honeymoon suite, but no acorn..no guardian..not even any stars as far as you can tell. It does have a window with a view, but it is perfectly..average for a honeymoon suite.

You stay the night, and as the moon rises..and the stars come out... a ghostly form can be seen. Bathed in white, with feathery wings, it floats above the ground. About that time, you receive the message from Aleron (KI's character..think I spelled it right)..the figure looks up startled .. as if not expecting anybody here.
You think it is getting ready to vanish.

Kerym stares at the figure a few seconds, then is brought out of the stare by Aleron's message.
"Aleron..." He says without thinking, then returns his attention to the creature, still not positive what is going on. "Wait, wait, what? What's going on here?"
((Where is the message located? The one about the next course of action?))

"The seeker of knowledge, he who seeks the wisdom of the Acorn." The figure opens its hands to reveal a large acorn made of solid gold. "Every ten days, he comes to ask me questions for the Acorn to answer."
Chances are that the person who runs the town is the seeker. After all, the wisdom gained from the Acorn has made the town rich and prosperous. Therein lies a problem, however. It is obvious this creature is some sort of celestial being..and chances are it is not just going to hand the Acorn over to the first person to ask. Being a celestial being..it would also prove very hard to take it by force...

Kerym sits and thinks for a couple seconds. This could indeed pose a problem. He glances to the celestial, and stands.
"Okay. Mind if I ask you a question for the acorn to put its wisdom to? Well, I will. Say there is this group of people; let's say druids. Let's say they are evil druids. They want to bring forth, awaken, an evil god. Using souls and such to do so. Let's also say there is this other group; good druids, that want to awaken their good god to counter the evil one. What would such a group need to awaken that good god?"

The celestial being chuckles, which is surprisingly disturbing. "It is no easy task to wake any god, good or not. Nor is it always wise. One might better stop the evil god being awoke, then to try to wake a divine being. For good or not, the power they have can cause a lot of damage when on the material plane. As you have been told, however..there is a way. Gathering the items mentioned by the druids would work.
The golden Acorn of wisdom, A branch of the world tree, the Staff of Kelvin, The trinity Harmony; Melody; and Discord, and the Crown of Destiny. When all have been gathered the way will be shown then.
There is, yet, another way, besides summoning a god. Mortals are stronger then they think, though the gods do not wish them to know such. Gather to you heroic allies, and seek the place where the dark god will rise. Know that it takes time for a mortal vessel to adjust to the vast power of a god. Strike the vessel down, and the god CAN die. It takes eons for gods to recover from a mortal death. Grow in strength, rely on your own power..and you and your kind can win the day."
He folds his hands, and then opens them revealing a beautiful shining acorn made of gold. "You can have the acorn if you desire, but it will not come cheaply. You must prove your worth." Six dark shadowy wolves emerge from nowhere. "Defeat these creatures of darkness..and you can claim the acorn as your prize."

Aleron surveyed what was left of the capitol, taking note of what was still in ruins and what was being fixed, and what needed to be fixed and what could wait. He had prepared for more difficulty arriving, so most of his spells were currently travel-oriented and not directly suitable for rebuilding, but that was not his immediate concern. It could wait a day for him to prepare more suitable magic.

He hadn’t found any signs of his in-court colleagues—no surprise as they had most likely been in court when the invasion hit, and he hadn’t heard anything from them between then and now to make him believe otherwise. As usual Aleron also quickly lost track of Walker, but he wasn’t horribly concerned: the man should be able to take care of himself, and if not…none of Aleron’s plans depended on his presence.
Aleron was also not shy about investigating the Sergeant’s efforts when he came to them. By all appearances the man was doing good work, but without investigation it wasn’t clear whether he would be a resource to cultivate or an obstacle to overcome.
((We were all part of that military entourage to begin with—do I know this guy? Either personally or by reputation?))
Aleron’s status as minor noble and more relevantly part of the king’s envoy’s entourage might give him some clout with the peasants—ordinarily it would have given him better clout with the nobles, being one of their own if somewhat low-ranking, but at this stage in the game the mage suspected any nobles that appeared would be contenders for the throne.
So he was not enthusiastic to discover one of his peers arriving in town not long after he himself had done so.

Right now they are focusing on housing, medical facilities, warehouses (for storage)..and getting the smithy up and running. Which is the main things that at this time should be concentrated on. Though they have made a lot more progress then expected, they have not got around to things like the main castle. Yet.

You vaguely have heard of him, one thing you know is that he has resisted promotions in the past. He doesn't fancy himself a leader, and prefers to take orders..not give them. Yet people for some reason have started looking to him..and he feels obligated to get everything going as good as he can. Even higher ranking people have taken a back seat to him, as he is doing a better job then they would have. One word from you though, and he would hand over leadership in a heartbeat. A reluctant leader, even if a good one.

You've met him a couple of times, and your father detested the man. Very ambitious, and though not incompetent..not exactly the brightest bulb in the room. The few times you've met..you've considered him a toady..but pushes around those of lower status. His contingent is small, maybe a dozen people. Unfortunately he does share blood with the old king, even if very distant blood. Gives him a somewhat legitimate claim to the throne if somebody closer related can not be found.
Almost as soon as he comes into town, he starts ordering people around..telling them to stop wasting time and get to work on the important things..like restoring the castle and throne...

This will not do, Aleron reflected to himself. He located the Sergeant and via Message relayed four words:
“Leave him to me.”
Aleron then proceeded to take himself out of immediate sight of the interfering nobleman. He conjured a horse with his magic ((and if possible…I want to make it about a hand higher than Baron Toady’s mount, assuming he has one. Must keep up appearances.  )) and with hasty illusions clothed it in elaborate tack, the sort that the envoy’s entourage used when arriving at a foreign court. Except in this case it was in Cherryridge’s colors and with his barony’s coat of arms, and as a finishing touch he changed the color of the beast to match. ((To a horse-color, mind, I’m not turning it blue or anything. Just don’t want it to clash.)) He gave his own apparel the same treatment.
Then he rode directly into his rival’s path, and in his best envoy-answering-international-insult voice, demanded, “What is the meaning of this?”

The man straightens up and looks at you, not really recognizing you, but just seeing the fact that you are a Baron. "My pardon Baron, but this rabble is unfocused and need direction. The chain of command must be the first thing reestablished, and the castle and throne are the symbol of that chain. As I did not know you present, I had to direct them to focus on what is really important! Count Maudlin, at your service. 2nd cousin to the king, and possibly the only living blood relative to the throne." He puts emphasis on the last part. Technically you out rank him for now, but if no other blood relative can be found..he can claim the throne and be King..thus outranking you.
