It seems a hopeless task, especially in such a confined area. As you let fly with your first sling bullet, something .. odd happens. Upon contact it seems to shatter..and ice comes pouring out of it. Having hit the animals paw, it soon has both front legs of the shadow wolf in a block of ice, causing the animal to skid out of control slamming into one of its compatriots.
However, there are four left..and it is too confined a space..one of them is on you before you can do anything. Pain laces through you as it brings its jaw down on your arm..and blood flows like a fountain for about a split second. Another of the animals slashes at your back, managing to land a solid blow causing pain to shoot through your body. The other two are blocked by their allies..unable to get to you yet..but it does not look good. Then..the pain is gone..the bite of the animal on your arm has vanished.
Your ally is glowing slightly, as the light bathes you .. you fill stronger..healthier..faster. "Kiria!" She yells and a staff of ice forms in her hand, and she lashes one of the two that can not quite reach you yet in the head..with a yelp it crumbles and it does not look like it will get up...when it vanishes in dark smoke you know that at least that one is not going to bother you for the rest of the fight.

Raistlin was still around, but he was no longer looking for Ivor. He decides to follow the oger's footprints, and ducks into the shadows if anything moves in the halway besides him. This eventually takes him to...

Raistlin is just in time to hear the following.
"I am not sure, but believe the water is enchanted. Anything that enters it dies...and most horridly. While I am quite fond of horrible deaths, I believe this object may be beyond us retrieving...for now."
The mage shrugs. "No worries. All the others besides the crown and acorn have been retrieved. They are safely in Castle Harmoon. I was sent by our Master to retrieve you. However, we may want to stop on the way back to take care of some pests in the caves."
About that time he receives the message from his allies. Since he is the only one who can hear it, at least this does not alert the now overwhelming odds against him.

Raistlin guesses that the mage and oger are most likely going to come down this hallway soon to exterminate him... the hallway and ceiling a little way down had been torn up by traps when he passed through. So he snuck down to that spot and climbed up the wall... hopefully no one would be able to find him.

Tanis's face probably said it all, Raistlin climbing up to her nook startled her and she nearly hit him in the face with a rock.
"Just what in the name off all things unholy are you trying to do to me!", she hissed.

Raistlin put his hand over Tanis's mouth and makes a silent "Shush" motion. He whispers the spell for invisibility on himself and hopes that the Drow gets the picture.

Tanis glared at Raistlin, but didn't move. She waited until he fully understood the threatening message conveyed in her eyes and removed his hand from her mouth slowly and silently.
Tanis didn't say a word, she just gently turned Raistlin's face to face the direction she had been watching so intently. Now they understood each other perfectly.

Time passes, and the group of creatures have left the sight of the floating branch..and the group. Headed back to where they think the three are, presumably to finish the three off. It will not be long before it is figured out that the three are elsewhere in the caverns. If the death knight will press the issue or not is the question.

'Kiria?' Kerym thinks to himself. 'What? Who?' He decides not to think on it anymore. and focuses on the beasts. He runs to a corner of the room, turns, and lets loose more bullets. They seem to be hitting harder than they usually do, without him casting bull's strength upon himself.

You do your fair share, taking out two more of the creatures in short order..but your ally is something to behold. Her movements are fluid and graceful, but with a deceptive strength. Being mostly non-solid, the wolves can not seem to find purchase on her either. ((Remember..she is made of water..hard to damage water with tooth and claw)). Yet as long as you stay nearby (which in the room is easy, about 10') any damage you take is quickly healed (also a +2 to strength and constitution). The wolves are swiftly dispatched. You don't even really feel out of breath. In fact you feel better then you ever have. When the glow from her fades..the extra strength and health fade with it.
The celestial being smiles and nods. "You have proven your worth." He holds out the Acorn. "However, ALL artifacts come with a price..some more evident then others. While the acorn offers the bearer unequaled wisdom, the physical aspect of the wearer suffers. The longer you hold it, the more decrepit your body will become."

Raistlin waited until the nasty group of death was past them before sneaking out and going to the water's edge. A gruesome death, huh? He took a few steps back and found a pebble to throw into the water. Let's see what happens here...

Ivor has been frozen still and stuck the the wall since the incident by the water. The cavern was pitch black, but he could make out a shadowy figure by the water's edge.
"must be a rearguard or a straggler" Ivor muttered to himself
And readied to jump the creature, toss it into the water (which would destroy it due to the enchantment) good ridance too.

Raistlin turned to the sound of someone creeping up on him. It was definitely not the Death Knight, because death knights do not sneak. Nor was it the oger, they were too stupid to carry out that task. It might be Tanis, but the person's shape was wrong in its proportions. Therefore...
"Hey there Ivor. Good to see that you are still alive drinking buddy." Raistlin waved slowly to the thief. "We should probably get that leg of yours healed up when we get to town, you aren't as sneaky with a limp."

Ivor was alarmed yet calmed by the friendly voice, shame that it was directed in the wrong direction. Either raistlin senses are failing or the cave is playing tricks on him, either way, Ivor gave him a good fright by placing his hand on his shoulder.
"Indeed".
After a short pause:
"I was hoping to wash the wound in the lake, though it seems that won't be happening" - said while prodding a piece of ogre flesh with his blade.
"And Raistlin just incase the message wasn't received, don't disturb the water" Ivor said while saring at the ogre's remains

Just then Tanis appeared out of the darkness. Had she heard their conversation? Her blood curdling glare and raised eyebrow probably answered that question.
She sat down in front of Ivor and Raistlin, aware of Ivor's wound. She barely looked at it before sarcastically sneering, "looks infected. You might need to amputate it". Then turning back to the cavern because of the faint noise coming from from darkness, she turned back, "perhaps we could leave the limb here for the ogre's to eat. Purely as a decoy, of course. But make it quick, we don't have much time".
She quickly skirted around the lake and started to clamber up the fallen rocks. Turning back, she called, "If Ivor isn't too plastered he should be able to climb up here with just one leg".

Tanis couldn't resist. Turning slowly to face Ivor, she removed the small flask of ale from her belt, uncorked it and poured the contents out by her feet. She smiled to herself as Ivor's jaw dropped open. She swore she could see the short man's face begin to turn a deep red.
Reaching to her belt once more, she untied a small leather bag, taking out a tiny canister and throwing it at Raistlin she called, "put that on his leg, and then move your backsides unless you two want to feed the ogres!!!"
