Tanis watched Raistlin walk away.  "Very well", she thought.  Slightly impressed, although she would never let on, she decided to see what the Rogue and maybe, the others, came up with.

They walked through the black forest in silence.  Only the occasional howl of a wolf or owl breaking the monotony.

Tired, cold, hungry..the group makes it back to the ship..and eventually back to the town. It is a long silent voyage, nobody really in charge anymore.  Upon arriving at the town, a single druid is waiting, the rest of the town seems abandoned.  The druid seems young, but has a very stoic appearance.

"The Grand Druid will see you, follow me." Without waiting to see who follows he walks to the town hall.  ((For those who follow))

In the town hall, there is a circle of druids, one of which seems older and wiser then the others.  As the group enter, they fall silent, except for the oldest.  "Take a few minutes, choose among yourselves who speaks for your group.  We would hear all that transpired, and why our sister's voice can no longer be heard in the wind."

Ivor's eyes spotted the two weary adventurers just outside of the town. He was enjoying breakfast on a stead-fast branch of a grand oak. He seemed well-rested and spirited considering what had happened and greeted his exhausted companions in this manner, who were now trudging by him.

(whatever the group might say or ask)

He leapt off the tree when he heard the druids invitation, and tossing his scraps to Raistlin and offered some mead or water aswell.

"Parched and hungry, is no way to meet the grand druid"- Said Ivor with a smile.

(This offer of food and drink was available for Tanis aswell, but Ivor showed no signs of confirming this).

When Tanis and Raistlin eventually got to the town, they were greeted with the sight of a very non-chalant and rather cheerful Ivor.  Tanis didn't take up his offer of food, as she had been secretly eating the berries during the trek back.  However, she gratefully took a long drink of water from the animal skin.

They all watched the young druid in silence and followed him to the town hall. "Take a few minutes, choose among yourselves who speaks for your group.  We would hear all that transpired, and why our sister's voice can no longer be heard in the wind.", and with that Tanis turned to her companions, her left eyebrow raised sarcastically, "so do you want me to do the talking here", she said dryly almost tauntingly, knowing full well that Raistlin would rather dig out his eyes than let her take the lead.

Raistlin gratefully accepted the food, but not the mead. Water would do for now, drink could wait for later.

"so do you want me to do the talking here"

Oh Gods, the woman will kill us all! Raistlin didn't say that out loud, but from how his eyes were widening he didn't have to. "No, no, you just... do... whatever you do. I'll talk, I'll talk..." Why was Raistlin feeling so manipulated these days? "Just... sit back, relax and stay... quiet." Near heart attack diverted, Raistlin waits for any of the others to catch up before gesturing to the young druid to continue.

The Druids all sit, on the ground, facing the group.  The eldest, a wood elf that shows signs of age (which means he is really really really old) gestures for the group to join the circle.  "The earth shudders, speaking of dark and ancient things stirring.  The wind whispers of corruption, and the fire speaks of loss.  Even the water, untroubled usually by such things has been uneasy as of late.  So speak travelers of what has transpired."

Standing, Raistlin looked at the faces of those druids present. He had made sure that he was opposite their eldest member so that all in the circle could see and hear him... however much he didn't want them to. "I will speak."

He told the council of what had happened, being careful not to let details slip. At the news of McCade's death, what else could have happened?, he paused to regain his composure. When he was done relating everything that he could. (The next part can be edited out, but since there are inactive people...) Raistlin finished with what he was not certain about, "The fates of those not me or my present companions I do not know.  I suspect the dwarf (DG) is strong enough. The humans (Vindicator and Kip) I hope were lucky enough to escape... but none of them arrived before the hunters came too close. We had to leave them behind." The last he almost spat.

"Do you have any more questions? Because I would like to know if you know anything about that druid that saved us. Do you know her?"

All the druids murmur as you tell your tale, when you ask of the girl the eldest face shows great sorrow.  "She is Akia, my granddaughter, and she was going to be the grand druid one day.  Her connection to the earth was unmatched except for by maybe Aron there, her like had not been seen for centuries." the others nod in agreement.

"If what you have said is true, even we can not turn the tide of the coming storm.  Only a god can take on a god.  It is much more difficult to wake a good god or goddess then it is an evil one.  Evil only requires souls..while good will not accept such.  We must do what we can to slow this plague on mankind, so I am afraid I must task your group to work on finding the necessary items to wake our goddess to stop this for good."

"In total there are seven artifacts, spread around the world, needed to be gathered..and of course each is guarded.  The golden Acorn of wisdom can be found in Caranesh..the seat of knowledge of the Kingdom of Liam."

"A branch of the world tree can be found at the bottom of the Eternal Caverns."

"The Staff of Kelvin is currently in the hands of it's maker, Kelvin, right now it is unknown where he is..or even WHEN."

"The trinity, Harmony, Melody, and Discord reside in the Castle of Sound..located at the bottom of the Great Ocean, in its exact center."

"The last item, the Crown of Destiny, is lost in the Dragons Tooth Mountain.  No doubt in some Dragons horde.  Even if found..it has a will of its own, and none can make it do anything it does not desire.."

"Will you accept these tasks?"

Aleron dedicated most of his mystical energies on the voyage back protecting against possible divinations. ((False Vision, Detect Scrying)) He was actually rather proud of the False Vision storyline he’d been creating over the course of the trip: the entire crew succumbing to some nasty disease one by one and gradually dying off…corpses were not worth pursuing, after all, and he was confident that anyone who didn’t see it for what it was would be convinced they were dead already.

To that end, it really was a pity he couldn’t have gotten a bit of blood or hair off one of the lower-ranking attackers, he might have been able to get a lock on them with some scrying of his own…

((Later, at the druid conference...))

Aleron nodded absently, considering the possibilities. The Dragon’s Tooth Mountain was not so far from his father’s barony; the occasional rogue dragon still wandered out of that area from time to time. (Indeed, his grandfather had died to one such vagabond, in the process earning what became the family name.) Admittedly, with everyone in the kingdom dead there would not be a great deal of material advantage to returning, but he was familiar with the area—and he reasoned his arcane skills left him best able to deal with an unruly artifact.

On route to the Dragons Tooth Mountains.

It is almost eerily quiet near the base of the mountains.  No Dragons may be seen flying in the sky, but being in the shadow of the mountain known to hold more of them then anywhere else in the world casts a gloom over the land.  The few settlements that exist are usually 'protected' by a specific dragon in exchange for livestock.  As the caravan the group (those who went here) nears what is left of a village..they can not help but wonder why the dragon that protected this (and other dragons that protected other villages) village did not defend it from attack.  Since magic was used, the dragons would have surely sensed it, even if druidic in nature.

Already people from outlaying very small villages (missed in the attack) have started to clean the area up and start settling.  Not many, but enough that supplies and such will be available.

Caranesh

It is said that there has never been, nor will there ever be, a city its equal.  It is beautiful and well maintained, with grand buildings carved by Dwarven smiths and designed and decorated by Elven artisans. Some of the more ancient buildings are even made from rare and valuable materials such as Mythril.  Even a day away, where the group that traveled here is, its majestic walls can be seen..and the ever watchful statues can be seen gazing out over the land.  One for each race, even the now darker races such as Drow and Lizardmen, line its walls.  From a time when all races were working together.

The group has set up camp as night is falling, near a spring known for its almost magical nature.  It is said that the springs are rejuvenating and healing, and that any who bathe in the spring feel years melt away..making them younger.

The Eternal Caverns
Not named for how old it is, but the fact that they seem to go on for eternity.  Twice the length of the Dragon tooth mountains, it is estimated that the caverns might even go between two of the continents..under the ocean that separates them.  However, it is far too dangerous to explore as all the darker races use it for a home.

The entrance chosen is near a large city in the Kingdom of Tlesh.  It is near where the branch is rumored to be, and will serve as a good base while exploring.

As the group delves into the caves, they come upon a very odd site.  A rather large Dwarven wall, carved from pure Mythril, with ancient writing on it.  It seems to be blocking any further progress into the caves from this entrance.

((We’re in three groups, I take it? I’ll cast Sending once every 2-3 days, alternating between the groups that aren’t mine so I’m not out of contact with them for more than a week, tops. I’ll break the schedule if something major happens—i.e. ‘Hey guys, the Crown of Destiny just fell into my morning cereal!’—or if they think there might be something to report the next day.))

Aleron was pleased to see the occasional farmer creeping out of the wilderness; the few that had been his father’s vassals even shook out of their shock slightly when they saw him. No one of any rank materialized however. He was saddened, but not entirely surprised to find that the only person of note left from his father’s tiny frontier court was the keeper of the mews, who’d been in the mountains trapping eyases when the attack hit—and who was currently holed up in a tiny village that had been missed in the attacks.

(Aleron noted to himself that second son of a very minor noble he may be, but he might still be the highest-ranking person left in the country…he tucked the thought away for later contemplation.)

Aleron made sure to check in on the man, but the mage’s first order of business was to reclaim his father’s keep and see if anything could be salvaged.

((Let me know if I find anything. Otherwise I’ll post my next step.))

Dwarves. Raistlin had never really gotten along with dwarves, and this was one of the reasons why... they just made too damn un-openable locks! And then they became rather insulted if they found you tampering with them, usually showing their displeasure with the edge of their axe or flat of their hammer...

Hey, one bonus of being here was that no dwarves were present to chase him and Tanis away. On unfortunate disadvantage was that there was no one to let them in. There was no way any of the city-goers back there could decipher the runic script... not unless they just happened to be short men with beards, high tempers and more often than not completely drunken off their @**es. And even then, the dwarf that they asked for help from would more likely than not laugh in their faces and tell the "Pointy ear" and his "Bandaged friend" where they could put their bribe money... er... gold.

On the off chance that his companion could help, Raistlin turns to Tanis. "Do you happen to read dwarven, by any chance?"

Aleron does find what is left of the keep, mostly a burned out husk.  Since it was stone, some of it survived, including the secret library.  Most of the books are just reading books, but among the items two things of note are found.  A completely undecipherable scroll (even with magic such as comprehend language and such), and what looks like to be notes.

The notes talk of a man who Aleron's father knew called simply Walker.  No last name is given.  The notes speak of a small cottage near the base of the mountain, giving very good directions, where this man lived. It describes him as a 'bear of a man' who knows the mountains better then any.  However, it clearly notes that Walker is not fond of strangers.  His pet bear (no name for the bear) doesn't much like visitors either.  A note reads "I am not sure what to make of Walker, deep inside he is a very kind and gentle person, but he will not show this to the world.  He is made of stronger stuff then I have ever seen, and I suspect he might be a half god or of dragon decent.  Maybe even something else I could not fathom..or maybe all that is just because of the mystery of the man.  He knows things nobody else does..that is for certain."

Kerym was a little excited when Caranesh was in view. He had enjoyed the journey to it, but with the requirements of the journey being rushed, he didn't get much opportunity for taking things in. No sights. No new life-forms to study. Though, with this being the location of vast knowledge, he only complained a little when the chance arose, and had to be passed up.

Kerym, after camp was set up, went to investigate this spring that he had heard about. He wasn't about to pass up this chance, when they were so close, and just going to camp near it.

Kerym at first thinks that he is alone in the spring, he had seen the others of the camp returning from the spring looking refreshed and laughing.  They did seem a bit younger and more energetic then he had seen during the trip.  Then..he hears singing..obviously one of the group he had traveled with was not completely finished.  The voice is definitely female..and then he sees the source of the song.

The woman is .. not quite there.  From the waist up it is like the water itself took human shape.  Female in form, with beautiful features the figure is solid water.  As he watches the figure grows more, into a physical manifestation of a human female.  It sits on a rock on the shore, singing.  It is a mournful tune.  It obviously is not dangerous, or the group would have known it, and there had never been any mention of any attacks at the spring, and if it is a spring spirit..it would have been here as long as the spring.  However, then again nobody has ever noted encountering a spring spirit here either..

Ivor decided to venture to the Ethernal Caves with Tanis and Raistlin, but make no mistake, this decision was not due to careful contemplation or because of Tani's obvious arcane power and knowledge. It is infact because Ivor was drunk and Raistlin decided to haul him along.

Though he was drunk, he managed to keep himself well balanced and marched on as if he had wind in his sails. This might've been to his ovious agility build and quick-mind or mayhaps Tanis was behind it.

It was in this state that they eventually reached a massive gate of Folded Mithril, laden laden with ancient Dwarven scripts.

Ivor read the script, for little did Raistlin know that any drunk can read dwarves, due to some magic in their writing. Regardless, Ivor's true ability to read dwarven originates to the fact that he was raised by dwarves, and well versed in their tongue and culture.

Ivor laid down to rest for his good fortune (for he read the marvelous, yet dreadful text and horror wedged it deep into his memory, even though most of the text was unreadable) he decided to take a nap, 'til his companions should seek his aid.

Aleron packed away the note and the scroll with the rest of his things; given the circumstances, it was unlikely the old man would need them. On a whim, he threw an Alarm on his pack, and made note to keep the spell active.

Aleron spent the next few days sleeping in the secret library and squandering magical power ‘cleaning’ what remained of the keep—both in the normal sense ((Prestidigitation)) and repairing some of the ‘public’ part of the keep enough to be livable again ((Wall of Stone, Stone Shape, Mending of course. He doesn’t have the knowledge of architecture to make the place siege-proof but keeping the rain out should be possible, yes?)). Anything he felt he might need to come back for at a later time was left in the library, which was re-hidden and re-sealed, its protections augmented by what spells he could arrange.

Once that was done he re-stocked his supplies, then collected the keeper of the mews and the few servants that had crept out of hiding and installed them back in the keep, with instructions to keep the place as livable as possible under the circumstances. ((And I should probably pay them but I have no idea what an appropriate amount would be. Aleron should, however, so let me know.)) He also informed the keeper of the mews—Aleron recalled the man’s name was Garren—that if they received no word from him within a year, they were to assume he was dead, and proceed accordingly.

With his affairs settled, Aleron set off towards the mountains.
