Tanis just raised her left eyebrow at Raistlin's question.  Her disdainful look all the answer he needed.  They turned to Ivor, who lurched clumsily towards the gate, mumbled something, laughed at himself and promptly slid down the gate on his face and fell asleep in a crumpled heap.

Tanis turned to Raistlin.  She didn't need to say anything.  Her red eyes stingingly sending the message, "and you brought him along!".

Gimacing, Raistlin scratched at the back of his head. "Well, I couldn't just leave him there... could I? He's like a puppy!" Looking at Ivor again and getting a sniff of the air comming off of the warrior-theif, he muttered, "A very drunk puppy..."

"He would have gone off and gotten himself eaten or something if  hadn't brought him along." Once again, he muttered an amendment, "Or arrested for being obscenely drunk infront of children... You'd think that someone raised by dwarves would be able to hold his bear bett-" And suddenly, realization dawned. Meaningfully, he repeated, "He was raised by dwarves."

For miles and miles the wall blocked off every entrance, they are beginning to think that they would have to go out to sea to find an entrance not blocked. Rumors had it that the item they seek was not a mile from them, but to get to it they would either have months of travel to find a route not blocked..or go through the wall.

At the base of the Dragon tooth mountain (since I have no idea if you are going to seek out the possible guide mentioned by your fathers notes or not) lay a cave entrance.  This was no dragon lair, no dragon would be caught dead using a land entrance such as this, but the tunnels within were numerous.  Just in the first cave there are no less then six paths.  Two to the left, two straight, and two to the right.  So far there is not even a hint where in the mountains to go.

((Was kind of planning on it, yeah, but it doesn’t matter. Either he sought out the Wanderer or Aleron compiled notes on the area beforehand—major and minor trails through the area, dragon lairs in the vicinity, settlements wiped out by the Yenir cultists…as a mage I figure he’s got enough intelligence not to go off without SOME sort of guide, be it a person or a map. He does lack outdoor experience however, so while he’d remember to mark (for example) springs, rivers and other water sources, he wouldn’t think to mark them as drinkable or not. ))

Aleron cast Light on a small stone in lieu of a torch and examined the passages. After a moment’s thought he cast Prestidigitation on an unobtrusive part of the stone to color it in a pattern the Envoy’s other escorts would recognize as indicating his direction—figuring if something befell him one of the other groups could pick up his trail—then traveled down the left-most path.

As you decide which path to travel down, you remember that the house described is really near the entrance of the cave.  Since it is getting rather chilly near the base of the mountains, and you had noticed no smoke, it is a good guess that the person who lived there is not there at this moment.

After traveling down the path a bit, he finds several small paths, but none that a person could fit down.  After about 150 yards, and a few turns, he runs into a wall.  At first glance it looks solid..but just beyond it the very faint sound of some sort of fight can be heard.  As sound tends not to travel through solid rock (he made his intelligence roll easily) there is something fishy about this dead end.

Passing through the illusion easily, on the other side he is greeted by a very odd sight.  Two dozen creatures that resemble the shadows of goblins, and 3 that looks like shadows of trolls.  If shadows were three dimensional and somewhat solid that is.  They are attacking a rather large, barrel chested man, and his grizzly.

Though the shadowy goblins are amazingly fast, and both the bear and the man seem to mostly just pass through them, the two they are facing are doing surprisingly well.  You can tell the man is getting rather..angry at not being able to land a solid blow.  Finally growling, he pushes them off..holds up his hand and says something very familiar.  It is actually more of a symbol ((one that can't be reproduced here), and instantly the mans hand and the entire bear are surrounded by a faint glow (Faery Fire).  While this makes them easier to hit, it seems to do the trick.  Now when he lands a blow, a shadow goblin is near broke in two..and doesn't get back up.

The female seems startled, and seems to be ready to jump into the water to vanish..but she hesitates.  "Oh, I thought everybody had gone.  Nothing is wrong, its just that we spirits are bound to certain things, and can not go to far away from it." she motions to the water around her.  "We are not supposed to be seen, though a few seem to be able to do so.  If somebody were to see us talking, they would think you are talking to yourself."

She slides a bit into the water.  "It is not every day I meet somebody who can see me, but I try to wait till everybody is gone before singing..just in case."

Water spirits have been known to be tricksters, so there is a chance the spirit is playing a prank on you.  Not all of them play pranks, however, and this is a known healing spring,  It is possible the spirit is being honest.

Aleron weighed his options and decided to take a calculated risk that this was the man his father’s notes had mentioned and all was as it appeared.

He cast Light on a crossbow bolt and loaded it into his weapon, then shouted “Hoy!” to get the shadow creatures’ attention and fired at the nearest. ((If I get some breathing space after painting the target on my squishy caster self, I’ll try a Silent Image of a sword of light and send it flying at one of the shadow creatures. If that does damage, I’ll switch to that method of attack and save my bolts.))

The bolt easily pierces the shadowy form of the nearest shadow troll, and gets its attention.  It yanks the bolt out and throws it to the side with a hiss.  Like a normal troll, you see the wound start closing.  Apparently the shadow creatures have the same abilities as the creatures that they resemble.  You grab the attention of that troll and about 3 of the smaller shadowy creatures.

Your silent image does indeed work (neither creature is known for their intelligence, so they failed their save big time).   Without some sort of fire or acid, however, fighting the trolls is an exercise in futility.  They heal faster then you can damage them.

Fortunately this gives the man some breathing room.  He holds out his hand and shouts "Flarik Maskata" and a sword made of flame sprouts in his hand.  "Stranger, if you have any fire magic .it would be a good time to use it. Else you and my ally here can distract the little beasties, and I will deal with the large ones."

The shadow troll that is focusing on you, manages to close the distance with you as you do so.  Pain laces through your body as it's terrible claws sink into your flesh.  You barely manage to evade it's gaping maw,  as two of the shadow goblins impede your retreat from the lumbering beast.  Things are looking a little grim, and not just for you.  The bear has been pinned by 1 of the trolls and about 3 or 4 of the goblins, and they are ripping at it with their claws and teeth.  It won't last long under that assault.

All the others are surrounding the man, Feinting and dodging his sword, trying to wear him down, and not giving him time to cast. More shadow creatures start emerging from the other tunnels. It is beginning to look like the end.

You see a weird light burst from the area you were keeping that odd unreadable scroll.  Against your will you hear yourself speaking, some sort of rhyme.  The words flow from your lips, and eerily it sounds like your fathers voice.

Form of beast, trapped in mire
peel away in cleansing fire.
Forbidden by the shadows plight
Show us now your brilliant light

From where the bear is you see the faerie fire changing, turning into a golden light, and the bear begins to change.

Bound by evil, in an animal cage
Loose now your righteous rage
Roar of the bear now dismiss
replaced by the serpents hiss

Weird wings, almost liek a bats but much larger, thrust through the bears hide, the shadow creatures start to retreat..very confused.

Skin tougher then mithral mail
replace fur with a reptile's scale.

Suddenly your voice gets stronger, louder, almost shouting.

DRAGON'S ROAR NO LONGER BOUND
SEND FORTH THE LIGHTS CLEANSING SOUND

A young gold dragon now stands where the bear once did, very recognizable from your childhood.  The towns protector, not seen for a long time, revealed in all it's glory.  You seem not to be the only one confused or bewildered..the man is looking on as if he thinks he has lost his mind.  The dragon opens its mouth, and unleashes a roar..a cone of light bursting forth.  Everything is blinded, and the shadow creatures vanquished.  When the light clears..the dragon (and thus the bear) is gone..and the man is looking around as if trying to figure out what exactly just happened.

Meanwhile in the mine, far far away.  The runes of the wall starts glowing.  The earth under your feet shakes, and cracks start forming on the wall..four of them.  Two forming vertically, two horizontally, eventually forming a door.  The door does not open, but is clearly now visible.

Tanis had been watching the rogue entertain himself by throwing branches and small stones at the barely conscious Ivor.  Ivor twitched, his hands swatting imaginary flies from his face every time Raistlin dropped a leaf on him.  Raistlin had orignally found Ivor's reactions extremely funny, to the point of running to Tanis, giggling.  Quickly realizing that Tanis wasn't in the slightest amused by his teasing, Raistlin kept his pranks to himself, but had soon become bored.  Especially as Ivor managed to fall back into a coma like stupor no matter what Raistlin did to him.

The water had only partially roused Ivor, so Tanis strode over and kicked Ivor's boots forcibly.  "UP!!!  NOW!! .............. Enough of this stupidness!", she barked.

So rocks, kicking and water did not seem to be working. Even Tanis screeching, which was enough to wake the dead, did not seem to do little more than rouse Ivor. There was one last thing to try... but Raistlin really didn't want to make it impossible for Ivor to breath. The thief wouldn't be too happy with anyone who put their and over his mouth and pinched his nose shut... not happy in the slightest.

So he suggested it to Tanis. "Hey, if you plug someone's nose and mouth so that they can't breath, they will wake up almost immediately. It's just... sort of really mean, so I didn't want to do it... again, he looks like a puppy while he's in a coma..."

Tanis didn't hesitate.  Clamping her hand down over Ivor's mouth (even though she balked at the wet bristles), she pinched his nostrils hard together.  For what seemed like an amazingly long time, Ivor didn't do anything.  Even Tanis was surprised at how long Ivor could go without breathing.  Then suddenly his eyes snapped open and he jerked violently.  More disturbingly, Tanis still hadn't let go.
