The group had been traveling for several hours when they came across a man in the middle of the road. He was dressed in fur hides and steel armor, but draped over it all was a large blue cloak. Upon his head was a the face of a bear like a hood. In his hands was a large warhammer. The man's face was proud and stern.

"Halt!" the man yells out towards the group. "State your name and business!"

From the brush, ten other men step out, some with swords and axes, others with bows. They are all dressed in fur, chainmail, and blue cloaks. One of those men was Ralof.

Drystan holds up his hand to signal the group to not attack. "We are travelers on our way to Whiterun. What is the meaning of this?"

The man with the bear hood looked at Drystan, Bhob, and Noxa closely and replied, "We are the sons of Skyrim, and we protect her with our lives against those who would seek her destruction. You three have the likeness of Imperial agents. An Imperial girl with her sellswords, an Orc legionnaire, and one of the Thalmor's spies."

"We are not spies or soldiers and do not mean to cause harm to Skyrim. We are simply a group of travelers on our way to Whiterun."

"Funny that. As are we." The man's disposition changed suddenly to being calmer and more friendly. He gestured to his men, who lowered their weapons. "My apologies for my earlier rudeness. Trust is hard to come by these days."

He approached Drystan and held out his hand. "I am Thorald Gray-Mane and I lead this company."

Noxa couldn't help but be a little unnerved by this sudden change in attitude, especially given that they were still surrounded by twice their number of heavily armed men. Still, talk was preferable to fighting, wasn't it?

Yu nodded to them, warily watching as he put a fist to his hand and bowed ever so slightly. "A pleasure, to be sure..." He rumbled, ready to grab Noxa and run given a moment's notice. Drystan might have his money but the smith had a contract that would be most beneficial if she survived. Besides, the short girl was lighter, harder to shoot due to her smaller size and likely wouldn't fight him if Yuan-Ta decided to pull her away from combat.

The day was darkening as the sun set behind the mountains. Drystan and Thorald decided to set up camp in a clearing by the road for the night. Thorald's men set up their camp farther away from the road as Drystan and his party set up closer. Thorald has a fire going in his camp and his men began to roast up legs of mutton for their dinner. Morn and Ralof decided to sit together and talked among themselves a little ways off from the camps as Thorald and Drystan talked to each other alone. After a little while each one went to their respective camps and sat down at a log near the fire that Morn lit himself earlier.
Morn looked back at Thorald's camp and said, "Well it's as I thought. They're Stormcloaks alright. Their leader, Thorald...I've heard of him. His family, House Gray-Mane, is one of the most powerful in Whiterun. I knew that they supported Jarl Ulfric, but to have one of them as an officer in his army? That's news to me."
Drystan drank something from his flask and then replied, "Thorald and I just talked. He says that once we get to Whiterun, his party intends to stay. But I don't think he will. From the looks of it, he intends to come with us. Why, I am not sure, but be careful around him. This man is a veteran of the war, and more than that, a skilled tactician and formidable warrior. He has no love for the Empire, so it's best that we try to avoid that whole discussion."

Septimus woke abruptly late, must've seemed like a common drunk rather than a warrior monk. He grabbed his effects and left the inn with haste. Checking his satchel, he noticed that he just had enough waybread left to sustain him until he reaches Whiterun (last breath of his long journey) and with that he set off, though became skeptical of whether he's going the right way, so asked the blacksmith's apprentice.

"Erm, little lady, would you be so kind as to point me north"

She giggled at the prospect and tugged on the monk's tunic, and led him to the northern gate.

"Much obliged" tossing a gold septim into her unsuspecting hands.

The going was slow, and Septimus could feel chill's embrace, not even his enchanted tunic could keep out the menacing cold, though he could also feel the sun's forlorn touch on his cheek. Septimus was hoping for a forced march all the way to Whiterun, but that plan seemed bleak and unlikely, mostly due to the cold and the slow going, not to mention that he wasn't at all too certain what time it was. But the road was well made and relatively easy to follow, so it wasn't all bad.

Drystan nodded at Yu and replied "It's best that we all stay out of this as much as we can. We don't want to be on their bad side, but always keep your guard."

Morn looked up with a raised eyebrow at Yu's comment to Noxa. "Measurements? What measurements?"

Dyrstan got up and walked to the road. He looked upwards towards the shining night sky and took a deep breath of the cool crisp Skyrim air. He closed his eyes and let his mind wander until he heard a faint tap on the road. Drystan looked and saw a blindfolded elf in robes with a staff. Though certainly in prime physical condition, the stranger held an air of calm confidence and humility.

"Who goes there?" said Drystan to the stranger.

Noxa looked up from taking Yu's measurements (which she did by wrapping twine around whatever limb she needed to measure, then putting a knot where the ends met, cutting off the measured piece and sliding it into a scrap of leather she had just for that purpose, which had slits cut in places that correlated with places on the body). Who would be traveling this time of night, and alone no less?

Septimus halted.

"My business is in whiterun, and not the vagrants of Skyrim"

*after a short pause to consider*

"If you are bandits, then say so plainly; you're not robbing me blind"

Septimus could sense that there's a group of men about him, maybe he has stumbled into an ambush for merchant caravans? Though things didn't feel as tense as he'd expect, maybe they think him an easy prey?

Septimus felt no tension and barely a man or two was even aware of him.

He approached Drystan with caution, but he decided that even if they were bandits, they must the awfully dumb kind, to show this kind of disregard for a possible mark.

As Noxa made her measurements, Yu's eyes were left to wander. And though the wanderer may not have felt hostility from him, he was the only thing that caught the argonian's attention. Pupils narrowing to slits, Yuan-Ta hissed softly to Noxa, "What by the all the summer gods - though they be dead in this place-" he added as an afterthought, "happened to that man's eyes?"

"Of course! Come sit by our fire here if you'd like, unless you prefer the company of the Stormcloaks, who are a bit farther off the road than we are." replied Drystan as he led the blind man to the fire. "We have plenty of food to spare as we plan to restock up on supplies in Whiterun."

Drystan sat down. "Speaking of which, what does bring you to Whiterun? A pilgrimage of some sort?"

Well, I'm Ceres!

Sophia trailed the long jagged road determinedly but with a little sentient of her actions.  Her heart sank as the mind-boggling thought repeatedly lingered inside her mind – Why does all of the fat and ugly girls she knew got offered a marriage proposal and she did not?  The young lady was certainly sure she wasn’t fat and those who envied her were the only one who insisted that she was ugly.  But was that the tenor these days?

Her beautiful dark brown eyes looked deeply sad and her risqué shoulders slumbered as the burden of that unacceptable notion dragged her down.  She had a lover for years, one she truly cherished and devoted to, yet no hint of those words that women die to hear for.  She had ran out of reasons and the only things she could assume of was that that maybe it was because she did not perform him an o—nevermind! Or cooked him a nice meal.

The young lady has always hoped that a nice meal would work.  Apparently, it did not do the trick.  No matter what she did, cooking, along with the other wifely household chores defied her even with the years of tireless mentoring of her beloved mother so she could turn into a perfect wife.

She was different.  She had always carried that idea in her mind.  Even in her childhood days, her deviance can be clearly marked.  Deep curiosity was one of the main traits she possessed that separated her persona from the group of farmers she had lived who were contented on simple perceptions.

Once, she fetish a mage who lived for quite some time in their unremarkable village.  The mage’s nature caught her inquisitive mind.  The people of her village despised the mage’s presence while the young Nord beloved him.  She sneaked from her parents from time to time so she could receive reading lessons from him.  Books, enchantments and other magical novelties awakened her interest in the arcane arts.  When the time was right, the old man taught him a simple arcane spell.  It took her sometime but she can brag about it as one of the greatest things that happened in her life.  But her dream of being a skilled mage crashed when the old mage left the village for another, which was one of his routines as he was doing a research work.

The wind swayed her long wavy hair as those miserable memories drifted in her mind.  Sophia left home without her parents’ and lover’s assent – they did not even know about her little rebellious covert plan.  With a few septims she saved from tilling their neighbor’s farm, Sophia decided to leave all of that unpleasantry her obscure village slapped upon her.  The young lady opted to seek answers from outside her small world.

As the fatigue tried to take over her weakened body, Sophia felt for her purse guessing how much septims were left to spend in her journey to nowhere.  Bread and water were the only things her belly acquired since she started to travel and now has been depleted.  Feeling that her purse had grown lighter, she began to question herself if she had made the right decision.  She was planning to reach another town to resupply and if she’s, lucky find for a job, but it was too late.  Her mind was tired and her once lively hands and feet were now cold and lifeless.  Her speed deteriorated as her strength left her.  She felt that anytime from now she will collapse. Travelling for her impossible dream was a real bad decision.

The Nord was beginning to lose hope when suddenly the smell of roasted meat reached her numbed nose.  She has not been eating for days so she instinctively followed where the scent were coming from.  Even with a muddled vision, Sophia easily noticed the fire by the road.  With all her remaining strength, she slowly sneaked near and saw several people gathered by the fire.

At first, she was hesitant to approach the group but her grumbling stomach pushed her onto them.

____________
And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry, as she lay on your lap,
"Nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer."
