Well, majority of games like this are inspired by Warlords. That game was also really good for that era. 
From what I've seen so far, I love AoW3, the atmosphere feels amazing to me, much better than AoW2 to be honest(even though I really liked AoW2), and I love the fact that Bos is doing the music again, he was doing it in AoW1 and AoW1 has the most wonderful music I've ever heard in PC games, like for me not another game's music comes close to it.
At first I was sceptic too because there will be only 6 races at the start, but then I heard that they have over 200 unique units and that is already more than any previous AoW game, and that they are going to add other races slowly so I am really looking forward to it.

Yes, that's true. It is pretty much the 'daddy' of the genre, well, at least my knowledge. The first game is actually still a really good game to play. I haven't played the second one too much yet, but it also seem like a lot of fun to play and it has got some new stuff. Well, back to Age of Wonder 3 talk.

New dev journal about tactical combat, some special abilities, options etc.
I really really love this, combat will have much more depth than it was in previous AoW games. That together with more units and abilities than in previous games, the options will be endless.
I am so pumped for this game, I just hope that it will work fine on my PC.

I actually didn't know about this game or series but looking at some gameplay, I feel like HoMM could learn a lot from it.

Oh it definitely could. AoW 1 and AoW 2 were both great games, even though they are TBS like Heroes of Might and Magic, it has its own flavor and it is much better game because it has much more depth than heroes, well at least in my opinion, I know a lot of people will disagree.
EDIT: Hey guys, there is an announcement that Age of Wonders 3 will be released on 31. March!

As far as I know, there isn't any demo. People are playing Beta already, I think it was from January or so, and whole game will be released in one month.

I might be persuaded to share a few. But there are far to many to share them all.
Edit: Unless you are only referring to the unit artworks.
Edit2: Come to think of it, I am not sure if they are under NDA or not. So I'm not gonna take any risks here.

Well, if they are a part of the normal Steam version, then I can just wait for my copy... I just don't know whether they are or are not included.

I think they aren't part of the steam deal and are a GOG Exclusive.
Edit: I checked. Nope, they aren't included in the steamversion.

I haven't played Heroes 6, so maybe that's why I can't see it. What I can see is a combat gameplay identical to the previous AoW games with the addition of flanking.
