been prepping flowers and assorted plants and trees for the past two weeks. i still have to organize it all, as what resources i'm bringing in are filling the assorted game graphics folders to breaking point; and i am pulling and prepping more every week.

Hi Fred,
I'm still having trouble getting the images to fit properly inside the frames. If I sent you the images with the pink shadows and teal backgrounds, can you use them in a patch of yours? I don't care for recognition or anything, I've been so grateful for the work you guys do here and I guess it's my way of giving back. (on a much smaller scale)

i won't release anything in my patch that isn't my own work(although, a general homm3 community object patch that anyone can contribute to is a good idea).
if you are still having issues, upload what you are having issues with, and i'll try to see what the problem is.

May I ask, will you make stuff for the heroes succesion wars mod when it's released ? Or will you make only H3 stuff?
You do some great work, it would also be appreciated there! One thing I think heroes 2 is missing (or should I say, would like to see more) is Terrain. I am trying now to take this image "http://i.imgur.com/ZSLptcH.png" ( from here http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=40698&pagenumber=2) crop it and add it to the editor and use it as terrain.

@robizeratul, you should wait for a new version, we've added 13 new terrains (for now without battlefields, but that for later). I've checked your background, but I think it's a bit too similar to a grass terrain.

i add stuff from wherever i can find it, as long as i think it'll be a good fit into homm3(after it's worked on, anyway. objects, creatures, sounds, and terrain have to show potential for my own goals). that's about it. i tried working on the succession wars project in the past, but it has a different art style than what i'm going for(and i'm not the best at creating pixel graphics; my work for that project was wholly rejected).

I like your work fred! Your last screenshot reminds me of the colourful and lively landscape of homm4 which im very fond of. I think that s what homm4 had better than homm3 (that and music mostly). Good job!

Thanks for the answer Fred! Are you still working on adding graphics from other games?
I just found this game an thought of you. Maybe it would work with H3?

Warlods battlecry 2.
thanks for the info. anything that anyone stumbles across and passes my way is a good thing, regardless of whether i already have eyes on it or not. the "warlords battlecry" wiki is one of a list of game wiki's that i already check regularly. sadly, their buildings and whatnot can only be used as strictly raw material to build other stuff, as the perspective for that game is different from homm3. but they have other things besides buildings and such that can be used. i follow wiki's(among other sites) for buildings, plants, terrains, artifacts, treasure, creatures; pretty much anything i can put to use. but they all have to fit into the game, graphically(i'm constantly trying to upgrade graphics, as well, but they all have to either blend with the old, or be part of a lineup that will completely replace the old; like what i'm doing with the tree and plant replacements). some work will require more than others to make that happen.

Hi Fred,
Lately I have been organizing the files and I bumped on two of (really) old waterfall projects I was doing for HotA long time ago, but they got rejected. I know that you won't publish in your patch things which are not done yourself, but since you are wizard in 2D you may think to work on them for a future release
Perhaps I will be back in decoration when VCMI editor comes out

looks like we all get rejected as artists at some point. very nice objects, though(i haven't the slightest idea why they would be rejected). i haven't yet began work on waterfalls and waterfall mountains. but seeing this really puts me in the mood for them.

Haha, this is how it works, first we get rejected, then our work get appreciated when it is too late. Tough life of an artist (at last we are not dead )
I have found another one for you to consider working on. This one was the most perfected, also from the side of HotA team. They have improved rocks so I can only post the part of my work I have done in 3D myself. This waterfall is left empty on the front on purpose, so it can be filled in with 2D later. I still have perfected version of it, but you would have to ask yourself if I can share it. I am also including the water alone so it will be easier for you to work on.
Personally I hate if the good graphic is wasted, so I am hoping you will make good use of it. You are free to use it the way you want it, and knowing your 2D skills they will be great if you decide to work with them. I will be propably doing waterfall again in the future (half a year have passed and I am sure I can do them better now), but until VCMI editor is not released I am not planning to do so. (I still have the files, so I can render them from other perspectives if you need it)
Hope to see more desert stuff in your next patch, so I can use them for Oasis campaign maps

i have more desert stuff in the plans, surely. i even found the isolated versions of some stuff i was going to have to cut out manually from screens before doctoring, recently.
i've been searching online for perfect looping animated waterfall gifs, and have been quite successful(the last half-dozen or so times i looked, i only found a few useable animations that looped flawlessly). it remains to be seen if they will look as good once shrunk to size, but i think they will be quite adequate for my waterfall plans. i have various ideas of how waterfalls can be implemented.
the good thing about waterfall animations(or really any animation), is that they can be used for multiple ideas, or to create different things. for instance, i'll be able to make better geysers, once i get around to working with waterfalls.
thanks for the isolated versions of your waterfalls. again, they are very nice defs. hopefully, they loop properly(i dislike missing or incomplete frames in animation that is supposed to be seamless), so i can use them in some way.
-------
@ nephretes: i just did some work on the first of your waterfalls(the grass/swamp rock version), and added it to my lod. i only trimmed out any excess dark pixels around the object, to help it blend better. after placing the object on a map, i have to say that the water surface animation(reflection and ripples) and the splash animation you made are top-notch, but the waterfalls themselves leave something to be desired, as they look a little flat in appearance(they are where the object's flaw is, imo). i may be able to replace them with something from the gifs i'll been working on; then if they're good enough, i'll upload what i did here.
are you using 3d to make the surface reflections/ripples and splash animations?

@fred79
Personally I would suggest you to work on the last one I published here. It is the best in terms of polishing, and waterfall itself seems more natural than in the last two.
Everything was done in 3D, but it was long time ago so I was cheating. Those times I wasn't able to use proper method to do the waterfall: particles, so instead I have used texture offset to imitate the flow.

ah, i see. so i won't be able to make these kinds of things from scratch, without a 3d program. that way(from scratch) will have to wait, as i'm playing around with erm still.
i'm working on swapping out the pixie/sprites with the centaurs right now(personal project). doing the townscreen pixie/sprite dwelling fix atm(turns out, conflux townscreen dwellings are noticably different from rampart townscreen dwellings, so i'm having to do a bit of work to them). after i swap out the pixie/sprites and centaurs, next up will be swapping out the fairy dragons for the phoenixes(then the conflux town will be ripe for making a land-based thieves guild and an ocean-based pirate town combo; which is what i'll be doing instead of swapping out wog neutral creatures). yes, i know, i'm doing another project; instead of finishing the million-or-so i have yet to do. to be fair, some of these ideas were in the plans far longer than some others. i'll keep jumping around on ideas/work like this, just to keep myself from getting bored.

Perhaps it will be too difficult to do it in 2D, but maybe there are some programs which will allow you achieve similar effect withouth going for 3D, though no idea if there is an actually one. I would like too see many of your decoration (I have already picked the best) in VCMI editor so I may do something for you if you need it.
As for starting another projects, I know what are you talking about. Lately I turned my attention to diablo 2, so for now I have three projects to maintain :S
