disable secondary skills?

Is there a way to disable achieving certain secondary skills in SoD? For example rangers can't learn fire magic. Is there a way to make all heroes not be able to learn "Learning" for instance?

Ah, ok. I guess that's one of the reasons why they made WoG.

Why, you can always change the skill weights as you wish in *traits.txt. I don't remember which one contains the skill weights though

As far as I know it should be possible via editing mentioned txt file. However this would only mean that, for example, rangers can't learn fire anymore, but if a hero starts with a certain skill and you want to remove it (for example diplomacy starting heroes) it requires more complex editing. If you are still interested in first simple option let me know I could do it for you.

Thanks! But you can easily remove or replace starting skills in the editor. Go to Tools/Map Specifications/Heroes and open a hero's properties. Click on secondary skills and select what starting skills you want.

Thanks! But in what folder is this file? I can't find any files with "traits" in the title.

Ps: I should have posted this topic in MapHaven Guild. Sorry 'bout that.

I imagine this only works for one specific maps, not if you wanna play random, right?

And the file you're looking for is HCTRAITS.txt, it needs to edited with special editor so you don't make mistakes (I use Text_Edit myself). And of course you won't find the file in any folder, it's located in one of .lod, as I currently don't have heroes installed, can't tell exactly which one (I extracted the file long time ago and I keep it in my projects folder). Do you require further help?

If you can link to a tutorial or walk me through it I'd greatly appreciate it. I have some experience with editing .ini files so I might understand what you're talking about.

Yes I don't understand
WTF legendaries are saying we can do it
Only I can do Map Specifications and Witch Huts
But when first game, what Witch Hut gave you.
Ok try this change Witch Hut's variations of skill.
If skill have be good. You carry to another place
and you replace new Witch Hut to old place.
Ok another place will give you skill what you want do

Try this thread. I believe that you will find lots of relevant info.

What you are after is most likely explicitly stated near the end of the thread (16 pages at the time of this writing) but I have not checked. There is also a hint even in this thread as to where to find the traits file.

Hope this helps.

It wasn't April Fool's day, I was busy in real life, I apologize but I don't get money from this forum you know I will write a short tutorial on how I do it right now.

EDIT:

Ok, so, get MMA Archive, and then navigate to your folder where you installed the game, open H3bitmap.lod and HCTRAITS.txt is located inside (change the extension filter to find it easier):

Then, open the file with Txtedit, it should look like this:

Rest is simple, scroll to the right and you can see numbers representing chances for skills to appear for every class (notice how everyone have Necromancy 0 except Death Knight and Necromancer) and simply input the numbers you wanna use.

After you are finished, simply copy the HCTRAITS.txt into Data folder and that's it, when you start your next game it should be effective.

Let me know if it works, I will help with anything else I can, I just might be busy so I may not respond that day but I will as soon as I can.

Alternative what?
1 vs 1 a map. You give bad and long path to north, for example!
Both team have 1 Witch Hut.
Yes you guess

Ok good job to all!

Thanks Asheron! I did what you said and tested it. Universities can't teach the skill anymore and heroes don't learn them when upgrading (tested it twice on four heroes) Only witch huts and scholars can teach the skill now and I can disable them there in the editor.

Only question now is how do I distribute the campaign like this? So I might decide to switch to WoG after all. That's why I started a new thread in the WoG forum. For now yours is a lot of help, thanks again. At least I can test play it properly now and I know for sure that it's possible.

Glad to be of help. Although I must admit, I know nothing about campaigns... What exactly do you mean by "distribute"?

Just to add about WoG, I like it. For one, it's modular. And secondly, it offers few core gameplay changes for me, like external dwelling stacking. I don't like majority of new content though, but that's why you get the choice to disable them. So everyone wins.

With distribute I mean how do I distribute the campaign over the internet when it's finished. Vanilla campaigns consist of just one .H3C file that can be placed in the maps folder. The .H3C file holds all the map files which can be extracted in the campaign editor.

But anything extra I want like custom portraits or removing secondary skills I'd have to make the user do this manually or I make a .exe for the campaign so the player can install it with a click.

I can worry about that when the campaign is almost done. First I need to know what changes I exactly want. By that point I might want to have a custom menu etc, or maybe it will never get that far and it's just going to be the .H3C file and some instructions how to change a portrait and remove some skills. I can't tell right now, I'm looking into WoG atm to see what I can do with it.
