Interesting article. I am not a Kemalist, but to be fair I have to say the analogy is a little far stretched. Mustafa Kemal ruled during the 1920's and 1930's and back then the authoritarian leader was the norm. It was considered a sign of strength and dedication. One can say Kemalism lead to an authoritarian tradition beyond the man's intentions and that would be right. Still, I wouldn't identify it as a doctrine that now Erdogan suffers himself, as if he got the Kemalist bite and turned into a zombie himself. Erdogan is Erdogan not because of some tradition but mainly because of his own character flaws.
