That's because before the TI5 teams like LGD, VG and IG were trashed by every other tier 1 team outside China, and even internally they struggled against tier 2 teams like CDEC in tournaments like ECL and WCA. They were awful.
Heck, if you remember last TI4, Newbee had subpar performances against other chinese teams, not even average, like 30%-40% winrate, struggled all the way in TI, but they eventually ended up taking it 3-1 against VG. Like, lolwut?
This time around, CDEC seems to be the cinderella, wildcard winners already in the finals with not even ONE tournament won previously. They are not "overlords", they are jackals hunting NA and EU chocking chickens.

Oh Volvo what were you thinking with that closing ceremony...
Anyhow EG won the 4TH game, became TI5 champions and took home 6.6 million dollars.
EDIT: WHERE IS PITLORD, WE WERE PROMISED SOMETHING BETTER THAN TECHIES...

Man oh man. The drama is real.
EG, TI5 champs, kick Aui_2000 from the team and announced the new roster to include Arteezy in his stead. Bad move by PPD imo.
Secret effectively disbanded. RTZ went to EG, Zai steps back from the scene to finish school, Kuroky and Fata rumored to go for an all german stack, S4 rumored back to Alliance. Nothing on Puppey, however Secret manager 1437 said the Secret team is being remade.
Current C9 roster confirmed to have disbanded, but will not leave the scene. Aparently EE will reform it with new players.
All compiled here.

Hypeeee! Hyhy is back!!!!111
Also, that sure was a dick move to kick him out, Aui had a huge impact on the games.
He pretty much forced the enemies to ban Techies and Naga everytime and then Sumail was available to get his top heroes...

Yah I just finised going thru TI5 main event spoiler free on dotacinema & then I'm totally gobsmacked to read that. Totally agree forcing CDEC to ban techies & Naga first made big difference, altho I think going for surprise picks like (slark & DK) usually fails in big matches, especially if melee .
On the other hand, I would say not being favourite & saving strats is definitely the way to go in TI's. Core Lina woohoo .
