heroes 4 map-making / submission
hello, I made my first map, awaiting testing now...
however, I don't know how to post it so you can download it ... so ... can anyone help me on that? who shall I send it to?
the map is called key to victory. A 2-6 player map, and it's like 7-lakes in some ways, very interactive with lots to worry about, but your homeland remains safe.
I would like for the ToH map council also test it out.
I suppose all others with Heroes4 maps to submit could also post on this thread, as well as feedback on certain submitted maps.

That was fast Wiggy!
I'm not sure if there is a final cut on the map council for Heroes 4 and we have no map council right now. You can email it to me though and I will do some testing on it (doorshadow@aol.com). If other players like yourself can put together a quality map or two then we should hopefully be able to have the map council quickly test a dozen or so that can be posted coinciding with or shortly after the H4 multiplayer launch.
I believe the ToH map system is going to have two categories of maps. Firstly, there will be those maps that have been thoroughly tested and endorsed by Map Council are going to be in one area. Some criteria are going to have to be met such as play balance, all ages content and visual aesthetics. Secondly there will and area for maps that have not been through the process yet or have been through the process and not recommended by Map Council (this may even be a third category/site area). With the number of expected submissions, players submitting maps can expect that their maps wont be immediately tested and approved. There will have to be a schedule that is part first come first serve and part 'needs of ToH' (e.g., we are short on large maps so need to test them first).

You are of course very right Insatiable, the average quality of maps should improve over time as the community in general gains a better sense of balancing factors and playing sensibility. ToH is going to need some 'multiplayer-friendly' maps very early, however, to support the addict frenzy. It goes almost without saying that maps submitted earlier will undergo some revision over time, and may in fact be moved to the play-at-your-own-risk list after further testing shows they are problematic. Some of the early maps will hopefully endure, becoming classics.

I hope that URL works.
Oh yeah, and I recommend looking at it in the map editor first so you know where the keymaster tents are

hi, I would like to test out the new maps too. I usually can give good feedback, since I enjoy exploring the whole map. (not just finding the fastest way to kill the opponant)
mcon1@yahoo.com
thank you.
p.s. bjorn190 - I like where you put the second castle in the Battle of Jebus, after making it out of the first area, I was hoping for some kind of reward. A castle is a nice reward, and it will give the advantage to whoever makes it out there first
I'll have to start it again tonight (now I'm not as scared of those Devils who are waiting down in the south...)

U can technically cut and paste, but its a pain...u can drag something u edited unto the bar on the right and it saves it there, and then drag it back out and anywhere else u want. Not the best idea 3do come up with, but if u need to make 20 creatures identical, etc, it sure beats nothing.
I still made a few maps tho...but they take much longer than h3 maps.

Questions about editor
----------------
1. Do we still have that wonderful bush tool?
----------------
2. Zoom out?? You mean I have to build on a regular play screen size?
----------------
3. Has anyone experiemented with quests, events, pop ups, ect?
----------------
4. What sort of randomized features can be done.. ie random dwellings, and can they still be associated with a particular town?
Thanks

I was messing around with the scripting language (events), and although not very intuitive, it holds great promise as far as complexity and diversity is concerned. The possibility to make sequences of scripts, containing questions (with entirely editable properties for the different answer consequences, and also for what the answer "groups"/alternatives can be), battles, giving/taking resources, increasing or decreasing primary skills and spell points and experience and movement, winning or losing the map, changing the winning or losing condition, triggering another event, you name it...
There are four main types of events, as I understand it:
1) the placed event
this is the good old event from way back to HOMMII (with more options and diversity as aforementioned, of course, but the basic principle is still the same
2) the timed event
also an oldie, and is, as the name implies, timed.
3) the triggerable event
the most exciting, for sure, allowing an event to execute only when certain criteria is fulfilled (could be everything from reaching a certain level with a hero, capturing a specific castle, picking up the right artifact, maybe even losing a hero/castle (not clear on this yet), and many other things. The mapmakers imagination is the limit...
4) the continuous event
I don't understand this, actually. What purpose does this serve. Anyone?
Hope this helps

ok, spent another 12 hours on key to victory, solely on imporving and decorating ... and v1.1 is finished lol
before (v1.0) it was just functional and mildly decorated, and still had a few bugs as I kind of predicted.
and I think it's finished for good ... but of course that may still change
so basically as before, I'm asking for people to test out the map and give feedback. Any volunteers?
also, anyone else have a map they'd want me to try out, etc?

Wiggy:
We just started playing your map (day 4 I think), so send me the newest ver. and we will start again.
BTW 2vs2 games take ages to finish, especially in H4. Im not sure if anyone will be playing L/XL maps online at all.
