The brownish theme (layer? dunno how you call that) makes it feel like the atmosphere's polluted. In the initial one the air seemed more fresh like you'd expect in a mountainous/forest environment.

Can we get some Ubi/Limbic attention here? I think they'll find it worthwhile.

I believe they are following the threads inconspicuously. However, I highly doubt they make as much of an impact as we think they do.

Remember, at first in Heroes VI there were no town screens. Later they introduced ones (the poor ones but still). I hope similar situation will occur with Heroes VII - in the final version they will most probably be improved. :-)

They introduced TS in H6 after the community outcry for not having them. In H7 we already have Townscreens.

H6 was an exception, not the rule.

Remember, at first in Heroes there were excellent town screens in the vanilla games. Later they removed ones (then added crap ones but still). I hope dissimilar situation will occur with Heroes VII - in the final version they will most probably be unchanged. :-(

the biggest problem bugging me now is the yellow pokemon, i wonder how town will look like without it.

also i agree with "dirtyness". its probably because of effect applying to whole picture. some details have white stains looking unnatural.

btw i got an idea to make it more alive... torches. flickering little torches from there to there

please compare them to each other. im having a hard time to understand... how come the buildings siege battle show is related with the ones in town screen?

im trying to design bridge-gate-castle-capitol of my fortress and im trying to make a good call and follow the logic behind H7 design... cant understand...

whats the buildings behind walls? not capitol? not 3.tower? which buildings are those?

the corridor outside of the town also doesnt have any similiarity?

wtf?

Best think of them as separate entities. Pre alpha's just a random hazard. That's why I'm hoping that this'll all change as we enter later stages of production.

This has always been the case with town screens the siege view is always different from the town screen. Just take the Academy town screen from Heroes 5 the town screen is flying but the siege view is on the ground.

Well clearly, the town screens are not to be taken literally. I mean, we've discussed the Haven town portal which is boxed in on two sides by walls and on the other two side by the ravine. The Academy town portal is, literally, on an island of its own. Not to mention the question of how one gets around between all the islands in the Academy city - are there complementary flying carpets to visitors?

At least the 3D model of the town tries to make sense by showing how you arrive at the city through the portal on the left, and shows the city as a unified entity rather than separate floating islands.

Well, looking back, H6 had the same issue. That was a bit of a different case, cause townscreens were sort of "glued" to the game after it's release (and those were made in a rushed way). Nevertheless there's a high chance H7 will be the same in this matter, and that would be a pity. I definitely like it when a game is consistent...

Here you go:

Some buildings are missing sure ... but i think you will find this much more satisfactory

Now this is a town I like! It's more rugged and rough than the official Ubi one. Add some snowdrifts, snow heaping up in cracks and corners, animated snowfall, smoke curling up from many of the chimneys, people walking by and soldiers patrolling the streets (or standing at guard duty) and we have a winner .

I do like the concept of Heroes4, though, where the look and feel of a town depended on the region it was standing in. I guess we won't be seeing it in this game, but it would be great to have it. So if you'd place this town in a desert, it might look dusty and dry (think a Crusader town of medieval times) instead of snowy.

Yes, it's a bit of work, but in all reality, it's just extra artwork, copies of the same pieces of art, but with different settings. Somehow, I had to think back here to Warcraft II, where the building looks differed depending on whether it was a snow map (buildings would be covered in snow), a regular map or a Draenor map (buildings covered in plant stalks). I'm not sure how large the extra effort to make those varieties really is, but I doubt it's much.

So, if we don't get that here, that might be an evolution for the next title. Seasonal changes might also be nice then . Show the effects of the four classic seasons, with regards to rain, sunshine and snow. This applies especially to the colors of nature, with golds, browns and reds in autumn, leafless in winter (except for pines, of course), bright green in spring, full green in summer.

cool answers , but made me even more curious, so i played with fortress for last 2 hours in h5... to watch town develop... and relation between buildings.

i get even more suprised. capitol+protection buildings+enterance on top of each other in town screen, but in adventure map, they are on opposite sides of the town.. really interesting. i never realised this before.

this "thing" is abviously a problem that should be fixed/minimized as much as possible. i ll be working on this,  and i think h7 team should work on it too.

...at least battlemap buildings should  look same as adventure map town enterance buildings.

I hope I didn't miss the winter fun This is my version of winter haven, I have used Lawmaker's version with extended walls as a base, then added snow, got rid of that ugly Elrath, added snow, extended the walls where the town portal was, changed some buildings places, added forests in the background and made more small changes
