It's a  terrible mindset. If there is backstory you can always ignore it. If there isnt and you want it then you're screwed

That's not even a reply to what i said.  You can dislike it and have your standards,  thats ok. But i just dont grasp how  can  anyone  think that not having backstories because you  dont like it or worse, might  not like it is overall a  better option.

It's what people keep sayign. If you don't know, you can make it up yourself if you realy need to, and that would be satisfactory, because it is your own creation.

Take this as an example. Minotaurs, why are they fighting alongside Dark Elves?

The reason given is that Wizards made Minotaurs, gave them to the DElves, who converted the Minotaurs to the worship of the Goddess of Darkness.
For people who find this a satisfactory explaination, no problem.
For people who couldn't care less, no problem.
For people who don't find this a satisfactory explaination, the problems begin. This may very well start to grind on them. They may start thinking: "stupid Minotaurs, fighting with those stupid DElves for stupid reasons" etc. There being a bad explaination actively cuts down their enjoyment.

Now lets say there is no explaination given. Minotaurs fight along DElves, period. This is fact and you have to live with it. Hints are given throughout the campaign that both  worship of the Goddess of Darkness.
For people who couldn't care less, no problem.
For people who would like an explaination, they can piece one together themselves through the hints and make up their own reason. Maybe they joined together in a pact, set up by their Goddess. Maybe their religion makes them the same enemies, making it beneficial to fight together. Maybe this is all orchestrated by the Illuminati and the Masons. With some hints you can make things up yourself and have something satisfactory.

In the first case, there are obvious losers. In the second case there are none.

F.Y.I. The standards comment was a reply to what you said, even if it was sarcastic in nature. For your comment implies that having high standard of good storytelling is a bad thing, terrible in your words, when it makes you enjoy bad storytelling less.

I see it differently

In the first case people who like it are fine
people who dont care, no problem
people who dont like it can ignore it and do what they would do if said creature  didnt have backstory:  make their own

in the second case
people who like making their own headcanons are happy
people  who dont care are ok
people who want to know are screwed with  either nothing or ambiguity

in the first case there arent losers, in the second yes. I dont think how much of a blessing is to have clear backgrounds, motives and timeline, that's the second cause  of  warcraft lore destruction.

And your comment comment outright says  no storytelling  is better than   your percieved as weak storytelling. While your might ENJOY more the former, its  factually impossible  for it to be better than the later

Lore is not the same as story-telling.
Story telling is the narration that takes place within a game, lore is just the backdrop.

How did you manage to understand something else astounds me, since nothing else makes sense. Anyway while im sure you are finding this discussion about semantics fun, this is not the thread for that.

Now, Now...Strategy gaming in this type of game is set on a fixed mindset.

War is already declared. With or without a cause of any kind.

Lore does not matter nor the story telling. Only where such war is set: The world of Ashan.

It is left, entirely, up to the player to test its own wits and know-how to learn and adapt on both the overall unknown map at the very start of the game and the battlefield.

That is why, it is very important that the factions' line-ups create a sense of balance of power throughout this game, set on the fantasy and myth based world of Ashan.

I think it amounts to: "All conflicts will be 'any faction' vs 'any faction', so lore and the alliances within are pointless, so the only thing you need to focus on is to make the unit lineups relatively balanced."

Very much the perspective of someone who'd focus on skirmish maps and not the campaign.
