We shouldn't vote for everything obviously. Game should have strong core and people can vote about "flavor" of the game.
All we have here is directed vote so its not out of hand as some people think.
If there is budget for six factions then it was very good choice to hype up the game and to involve community to chose two out of six.  At the same time devs got rid of less favorite factions and brought people to the site and to the forums.
Line-ups also wasn't random basket of creatures where we could choose at will which creatures will end up in line-up and possibly screw up balance.
Votes are feeling the pulse of community and making game visible at the same time.
For the first time we have almost daily insight of what is the idea behind some of core mechanic decisions, lore, creatures and art. Voting is cherry on the cake. And its very good thing.
All the talk about not trusting community and at the same time not trusting devs is showing that there are some people that can never be pleased. Everyone just have to accept that and move on.

I am not sure about this argument. Let's take the creatures that jackson pointed out (point n6) as the most often suggested ones by the community here.

We would have had this :

Assassin
Evil Eye
Shadow Sorceress

Minotaur
Manticore
Medusa

Black Dragon/Hydra

I don't know, this looks pretty good. And even though I'm no programmer I'm pretty certain that developers would have make this work out. My point is, I am not sure that balance depends so much on the creatures. With stats and abilities you can more or less tweak it however you want.
Anyway, the vote is over and I appreciate it very much having the Troglodytes back there.

While I agree that having a negative attitude leads nowhere, I don't like that you're implying that having a certain exigence (or at least, respected standards) means that you're nothing else than an old grunchy ranter.

@Galaad
I'm sure that if everything is left to the fans there is big chance that we would end up with line-up full of shooters and flyers. There are rules that must be followed in order to balance faction and most of the people pay no attention to them. Just picking most favorite creatures is dangerous.
If you decide to just take appearance of creature and tweak the abilities to keep balance most of the fans would consider that cheating. If creature is shooter in previous games everyone will expect it to remain shooter.
That's why I think that this kind of directed vote is the best. Line-ups are presented by people who's job is to take balance into consideration. We have one new creature to refresh each faction we voted for and good spread between tanks, shooters, flyers and saboteurs.

For second part I can see that some people are unsatisfied with any solution presented. If someone has a problem with certain part of the game then only valuable thing is to present their solution to it. But for those people there is no solution. If they don't like vote and they don't want to let developers choose, what's left? I guess they want to choose themselves because they consider themselves experts.
Those people should be ignored because nothing valuable can be taken from their posts and their negativity is not constructive. It has nothing to do with standards because they are not unsatisfied by the game but by other things (UBI as producer for instance) and there is virtually nothing that can be done to please that group.

Well to me the rules for balancing are fairly simple : compensation. Manticore is damage dealer and flies ? Ok maybe he's no tank and have low HP for its tier then. I may be wrong but I think possibilities are rich enough to balance almost anything.

Assassin was a shooter in H5 and yet I didn't see anyone complain when he became a walker later on.
Better than no Assassin at all for those who loves this particular unit IMO.

Well it's not like we haven't been shouting, petitioning, almost begging for a H3 remake for ages...
And by remake, I mean optimized. And by optimized, I don't mean reinventing the wheel.

Well Ubi could try to avoid taking decisions such as removing random skills or scratching Unicorns from Sylvan ie this could help, oh right, it's not Ubisoft who decided the latter, it's the community, with a crushing majority of 45%.

Well then we could vote just for the names of creatures in line-ups so that developers could modify their abilities and stats at will to make them balanced. Would that help?
Did UBI scratch unicorns or community? How can you blame both sides? Or are you just sore loser?

I can accept H3 remake as their pet project that they work on in pauses of new releases.
What I don't want is that developers lose time on game that we already had 15 years ago.

What I do want is that developers stops trying to reinvent a formula from a 15 years old game still actively modded and played, doesn't that fact alone proves there is nothing major to change ?

Maybe developpers are forced to ask community some votes, two reasons for that : fans appreciate/promote, developpers are less frustated to do what ubi want / to hide the fact developpers has to maintain objectives / not innovate too much... hummm

well imo votes are a good thing. That way we can atleast influence some decisions, and feel like developers are actualy listening to us. I personaly have never heard of such practice before, so to me it's a positive thing overall.

There's a hiden dark side to votes ofc. And that is Ubi, that is afraid to make a change (like removing Unicorn), coz of bad experience from H6, is avoiding possible backlash from fans. They have excuse, that the community has choosen to be so. Also it brings up the hype, so their sales will probably increase coz of it. So that's why i wouldn't want votes for completly everything - specialy if it's regrding unit stats and ballance issues. Lineups and town screens are great to vote on tho.

Now regarding H3 remake .... i wouldn't want it, unless they release it free. Yes that's right. HD remakes of games are imo desperate cash-ins, so please ... no. If i wanna play H3, i play H3. I'm baffled that so much people actualy want that. What, did you all misplaced your Heroes 3 CD-roms? I feel the game needs to change, to evolve. One good idea for Ubi (if you read this) is to make H3 HD remake, and offer it free for all who purchase H7 - immagine the sales, they would skyrocket. That's what i'd do if i was Ubi. I mean - it's something moders already did - it would just mean official stamp.

Voting is important, even if we decide about some secondary graphic (many of you treat town screen vote like this) it is still a choice. A choice that makes actual impact on the game from series we all love and respect.

Let's vote!
