they should make it look a little more worn as if it's a ruined city, crumbling and unclean like the original, agree

could be so much worse though, just look at Heroes 6 lol

Well, so far only RoE is announced to be redone which means there will be map object graphics missing for SoD maps.

The new town screen shares some of the problems with the ones in Heroes 4 and Heroes 6, namely that the buildings stand out too much from the background. This is something vanilla Heroes 3 did really well. I hope they give it some more work (unlikely considering the release date).

By the way, I hope the new optimised touch controls will also be implemented in the Windows version, because I have a Windows tablet so I would really appreciate that. Vanilla Heroes 3 also works really well with touch controls, but it is a bit difficult to coordinate attack directions and when I need to type in something, it doesn't bring up the touch keyboard. I'd really like to play this on my tablet so this is a feature I'd really like to see.

Aside from the stone textures not looking as worn as one would like, it seems fine to me.

Anyone willing to do a townscreen comparison with the updated Fortress in this screenshot?

Regarding townscreens, they could have slightly improved the use of horizontal screen real estate on modern 16:9 or 16:10 screens by placing the resource icons, "Month/Week/Day" and the info bar on the sides.

ERM needs(as any programming language) an interpreter. This interpreter is not present in SoD, but it is in WoG. Now, even assuming map formats will stay exactly the same, there still will be a need for the interpreter. So far it is encapsulated somewhere in WoG/ERA files, and if WoG map are to be working, it will have to be in some version of "new" game.

Now, since the game is launching on several platforms, the code is more than likely to be different from what has been in use so far. That means old interpreter is more than likely to be incompatibile with new game. That means quite much work to get it working. Alternatively, one could probably extract graphics of new game and use it in old one. But UBI probably would not be too happy about it.

Cheers

I think people are getting way too hung up over the texture work on the Necropolis townscreen. It's not THAT bad, people. Also, did nobody see my post of comparing the new Fortress townscreen to the old one? That looks spiffy enough, and I imagine most of the rest will look great as well.

Personally, I think the emphasis should be more on the units than the townscreens with this update anyways. Like Protolisk said, it's so nice to see the difference between a Bone/Ghost Dragon's hands and ribs.

Waste of money by Ubi. Every H3 fan will say "old ones looked better because they are old."

Oh, look. They started to say that already.

They are not looking better because they are old, they are looking better because at that time an inspired team designed a fantastic game.

-somehow some of you are accusing others to refuse anything new because is new-which is very simplistic perspective and denies that knowledgeable fans have good eye and visual perception of what they played for thousands hours-

Sometimes those thousands of hours are a disadvantage rather than an advantage, you get too used to it. The only significant thing missing is the worn out look on the buildings and that's not a deal breaker if I'll get a full screen look on a 1600-1300 monitor and an iPad version. Everybody use to wish for this and now that it's here, getting stuck on some brightness issue is missing the big picture.

Ok, let's put the finger where it hurts: H3 graphics were never a problem, you won't find anyone complaining about. Instead you will find endless complaints about bugs and balance. I would have nothing to object to a HD game + fixing things and even adding a few extra content, but just super brush on creatures and towns shows how little Ubisoft hears its fans.

Btw, they clearly stated they got only RoE code source, so this will be all. No AB, no SoD. So no wog compatibility, but I bet they never heard of anyway.

If you are talking about stuff like the tower arrow bug or the advanced forgetfulness=expert forgetfulness bug, my guess is they fixed those. Other balance modifications will, this time, get a reaction from the purists though, considering even a town screen look is slammed just because it is slightly different from the original. This wont replace Wog, but it's still good to have. And the graphics can probably be used in Era mods, too.

Speaking as someone who's never really taken to modding beyond a handful of unofficial patches for some Bethesda games, I couldn't give a snow about all the fan edits and unofficial HD redos out there. Heck, I didn't even know about WoG until a few weeks ago, and I still don't care. I'm not into modding, and as someone not into modding, this looks really good.

Do I have some reservations about this particular HD remake, however? Yes.
Will I, having always played H3's Gold Edition, greatly miss the Conflux faction? Yes.
Might the probable absence of a random map generator dissuade me from buying this remake? Yes.
Will the price of the release be the deciding factor on whether I actually get it? Yes.

Is the predictable and exhausting negativity of this ever-unpleasable fanbase completely overblown? Yes.

Well guys, I only say I don't like it much and keep my opinion as game-only related, even explained why I don't like. I don't know why you feel entitled to go personal and call people who dislike it names, speculate about their "purism", community never "pleased", especially if, as you say, you don't give a damn about what this community created. Then artu repeating again and again about me being obsessed about some brightness which should be insignificant, but artu certainly forgot how he insisted for weeks to change one letter in zetup txt because wrong grammar disturbed him.

Oh well, nobody is perfect, is it? Okay, that's all for me.

Oh, this is rich. One of the prominent names on the WoG board - someone responsible for making several mods, someone who views FAN mods as superior to official products - complaining that someone who feels OTHERWISE is "entitled."

And when did "I'm just not a fan of mods to begin with" turn into "not giving a damn about what this community has created"? If people like this sort of thing, kudos to them. I'm just not into that sort of thing. But even if you are taking it that way, why SHOULD I give a damn? I owe them no loyalty - heck, I didn't even know this site existed until someone directed me here from the Heroes 7 blog... and honestly, I'm extremely underwhelmed. The "Heroes of Might and Magic" community as a whole is the most negative, complaint-filled fandom I have EVER run across, and I've come close to leaving this forum entirely because of how miserable the atmosphere is.

You know what? I think you are just feeling threatened. You don't like that this new version isn't compatible with all the various mods, and consequently want to turn people away so that they get the original version that IS compatible with all your miscellaneous fan projects.

And you're accusing ME of being "entitled"...
