It wouldn't hit anyone, only applied to normal attacks. The sweep attack and piercing shot were activated abilities and not passives.

Ah. I was under the impression that it was like Crushing Blow of H5's Untamed Cyclops. Oh well.

I do wonder tho, about creatures which hit multiple creatures with normal attacs. Like Hydra, which can attack all around it. Gnoll could then theoreticaly at least shot all units around hydra for maximum of 7 shots  That would be prety neat actualy, as it would allow Gnoll to combo with other creatures nicely. I hope we'll see something like that.

He would shoot the target if an ally unit made an attack within half of the gnolls attack range. That's how it worked in the demo at least.

Oh, quite different. They should place it into a description.

I'm Faceless, not Brainless.

Ok I know I’m really late, I had a bit too much work, but I would really like share my opinnions on stronghold line-up with you.

As many of you know, I'm a big fan of stronghold, Ashan stronghold to be exact, since I see it as one of the few factions Ubi managed to create generally well.

I had high hopes for the line up. Making my own suggestions in one of the dedicated topics , which came out rather accurate.
But looking at the line-up itself I can't help but to have mixed feelings. The line-up itself looks great on paper... but...

I will start my analysis on the core units, which I must say are exactly what I expected and LOVE them. Gnoll replacing was the goblin the best step. The harpies look much better than their H6 sisters, and if this is a re-used model, it is an example how such an approach should be done. The Brutes just perfectly capture the desert feeling and look exactly the way they should. If the entire line-up was made this way I would be thrilled, making fun of disappointed necro fans and giving out words of praise... but I'm not.

Next up are Champion units, and here is where things start to get a bit bad. Again they look great on paper, and even their abilities are interesting, but where these two units loose it for me is their design.
As much as I'm happy that the Behemoth is back, especially for all the people who wanted him, I can't say that his return is as epic as I thought it would be. I like the artwork, and I love how they have done his face, all un-ape-like and unusual. But the actual in-game model sadly carries to much resemblance to a primate. Something less obvious and more beast like would fit him better in my eyes. Also when I saw his "jump" animation in one of the videos I must that this is something that !must! tuned out in the final game.
My bigger problem is with the Cyclops. And many might be surprised, but my problem with him is his posture. It is too human like, too natural too... Orcish? I got used to the idea of the Cyclopes being these huge mutated almost abominal beasts, and even if the H6 pulp of mashed potatoes took this to far this current incarnation lacks any identity of its own. It's still far from the traditional one-eyed giant of old legend, but it's far from "chaos twisted monstrosity" as well. I think my Biggest problem is that he does not look intimidating enough and large enough. He looks too small. More like the "big orc" unit then an abyssal creation I got used to. This is highlighted by the fact that as a weapon he uses something that looks rather well made, with a fist dagger on his other hand. And why does he have the "devilish horns" on his head, and not the chaotic spiky ones? With all this he gives the impression of what I already compared him to, the "big orc" unit. And I don't know how about you, but don't see a Cyclops being just a big orc unit, and more over, I don't see the "big orc" being a champion.

Now whit this out of the way, It is time to look into the root of my problems - the Elite units.
You know, Looking at the stronghold units, I noticed one thing in the current setting - why are orcs the only faction that are generally allowed to have fun? Not the evil kind of fun, but general open, heart-warming fun. Which other faction has been described in a way that showed they generally enjoy life. With parties, fun, dances and a general light approach to life? No moping protagonist, no zealous fanatics, just people who live and want to live.
But now, whit the new elites, I can't help of thinking that the faction, that was allowed to have fun, is being turned into a joke.
Why I think this you might ask? Well let's have a look shall we?
The wyvern has been the target of jokes from the start, and somebody pointed out that we should find something else to compare it to other then a chicken. Ok, it is not a chicken, It's a combination of a rocking horse and a swan. Seriously who came up with this design, so different from the other interpretation of this creature we have seen so far? Why this posture? Why the long up-pointing tale? It just looks too funny, but as a unit it could work, if the rest of the elites could hold up to the brutal, barbaric theme of the faction.
With this in our minds I would like the address the topic of why in all hells, and all the options we had in the past, we ended up with the Teenage daughter of the H6 centaur? Unlike many people, I don't have a problem with the variation of the lower part of the centaur, this is something I call creative freedom, but I do have a problem with is the general impact of the model. I have argued many times here, that something like a centaur just shouldn’t be a core unit. A huge mass of a horse and human, under the full coordination of one brain, how could this not be an elite unit? But looking at this I think I should go back on these words. The problem here is similar to the one I had with the Cyclops. The body is to slim, it lacks the mass associate with an Elite unit, and yes Djinns and Justicaras are generally even smaller, but that is not helping. Also I think their upper body is to good looking. I understand the slight African influence in the features but these should be hardened warriors, at least give them some muscles, pieces of armour, war painting, not a leopard bra. In the end, H5 centaurs looked like an intimidating cross of a Zebra and an apache, There is nothing intimidating on these girls.
But my biggest problem with the elites is the Basilisk rider. Understand, I loved the concept of this unit! An orc riding a giant beast into battle, huge nemessing, something that could face a dragon, or rip a titan in half. I did not expect them to be ridden by goblins, and especially.... Hello there Kevin... didn't see you in a long time.
For those who do not understand Kevin was a promotional character for the 2006 spin-off game Dark messiah used to showcase the various options the game gave you to approach your enemies. And the Goblins sitting on the basilisk is based exactly on this design! There was a lot of talk about re-used models and assets, how they are good, bad, what is too much, but using an almost 10 years old asset? Really? Especially that it looks comical on its own, and with the rest of the elites being in a similar tone I just have to ask: What has happened with this faction? The artworks for the units are underwhelming as well, looking more like somebody draw them based on the models, rather than them being the inspiration for the units.

In the end most of this is just based on my taste, and most likely will end up being only my personal opinion. But I just wanted to give share my perspective.
