But we don't know this yet, right? As far as I know, we only know which creatures are in the line-up not which tier they will be, or did I miss something?

btw, behemoth having white furs doesnt make much sense, i think it should reflect the biome he live in, you know... white furs are generally for cold climates.

It's Ancient. Old(er) members of just about any species with a fur in our world also have white/grey hair.

I think Cyclops will be an Elite in this one, actually, with Wyvern being the other Champion. Also, I think the Cyclops will not be a ranged unit, but rather have a sweeping strike with knockback.

I am utterly impressed whit this line-up. Great example of a perfect town. I honestly think that Cyclops is elite creature. I mean just compare it from H6 where he is enormous, battlethirsty, mindless war beast, and here he is pretty much hybrid between Ogre/Slayer/Panther Warrior and Cyclops, in one word he looks a lot more disciplined.

Cyclops seems to be in the same ballpark as Swordbearer, but I agree it would be better to have a flyer for champion, but maybe they don't want Sylvan to be the only one without a flyer champion (then again they won't have an elite flyer either!)...

Is the Gnoll confirmed? From what I can see in the image, it could be just about anything.

It does look to have a characteristic long neck with mane, so probably yes.

While Behemoth design is not bad I prefer it's Heroes 3 look over Heroes 7 gorilla mammoth-like look...

Of course it could've been worse

Yea, like H4 version ... urgh. It could always be better, true. But I'm glad we have Behemoth at all. Much better than H6 Cyclops again. Speaking of which ... I like this Cyclops much better than both H5 and H6. It's stil not proper cyclops, like from greek mythology ... but ok.

If it stood up more and didn't use its hands to walk around it would be great imo.

They should change the faction symbol (the hand print) for stronghold on the website, to the one shown in the townscreen pic. Its less human and feels more savage.

Behemoth is actually extremely awesome? I like the whole gorilla-elephant vibe I also LOVE the upgraded basilisk is colored like a coral snake By the way, has anyone else noticed Stronghold only has two warfare units, just like Necropolis?

You notice, there is number of small holes in his "eye cover? (I guess)"

It's completly and utterly ridiculous and non-functional ofcourse . But that is OK, actualy ... Erwan himslef said that's their main goal. If you listen to interview, he said there isn't supposed to be logic in Ashan so ... screw logic. Green dragons don't even fly.

Site is being super laggy right now, but I can already tell the base Brutes/Crushers are my favourite iteration of HoMM orcs yet.

EDIT: Okay, I've finally seen all of the units on the Stronghold page. I can safely say that, overall, this looks to be the best iteration of Ashan Stronghold yet.

I find the Ancient Behemoth's "Mighty Pounce" ability rather amusing since I was thinking last night that a "leap" ability would be an ideal compensation for a lack of flying ability.

Line-up is alright I guess. Good to have a lizard rider unit back.

And of course Gnolls are another retcon, some four years ago Erwan stated they were not part of Ashan. Of course everything can be spun into the beastmen cathegory.

Okay, so, I am going to attempt to analyze what these creatures and their abilities mean for role in the factions army.

Brute is your generic basic bashing orc. Typical melee, but necessary.

Gnoll is an intriguing shooter, as it seems to be able to shoot a "flank" while another melee unit is bashing their target. How does this work? Do you designate a unit for automatic shooting? Is it passive? If it is a "flank", must they be to the side of the target, as in you can't have a system where a gnoll is right behind a brute as he melees a unit in front of him, the gnoll is "in front" of the target? I need more info. Does it activate once per turn? Multiple times? As many times as possible? Cyclopes sweep. Do Gnolls opportunistically shoot each and every one of those sweeped targets? Depending on the function, this could go from just one extra attack per turn to at least 5 other attacks, one per each friendly melee strike, and even more if the Cyclops sweep and Behemoth leap work as multiple target bashers. (I assume centaurs won't be melee, if ever.)

Harpies are flying, and become pseudo shooters. Reasonable.

Basilisks... the saboteur of the army. Crits cause petrification, and many units can't retaliate it normally anyway. Seems fast, might help.

Centaur bringing mobility and shooting together yet again. Seems almost unchanged from H6, baring it's auto attack function. Yet another shooter amid the Gnoll, and the pseudo shooter Harpy.

Wyvern is... odd. It flies too. It regenerates. It poisons. Just what is its purpose?

So, the differences between the Behemoth and Cyclops becomes clear. Or, not really. A cyclops seems to be able to handle multiple units up close, or one unit far away with its eye beams. The Behemoth can deal with one unit up close with its defense debuff, and can handle... many at far range with leap? Will leap function like the end result of the upgraded Kappa leap, causing an explosion (likely for the 'moth as a shock wave upon hitting the ground) damaging all targets nearby, or just a single target like the unupgraded Kappa? Would this hit, even with or without the shock wave, cause the Gnoll to shoot? Likely not, it wouldn't really be "melee".

Overall, you have two units that clearly use tactics for no retaliation, the Harpy and Basilisk, that could make use of the Gnoll more effective, as you'd get two strikes on a single target with no fear of retaliation. And does a Behemoth get retaliated against when it slams? Likely not. And a Cyclops can hit many targets, only getting one retaliation against it, or simply shoots for no retaliation at all. Is it me, or did this Stronghold suddenly become a successor to the H6 Dungeon with all its retaliation avoidance? Clearly not completely, but it is a hefty amount of opportunistic attacks. Only two units don't have a retaliation avoidance skill, and that'd be the Wyvern which heals itself, and the basic orc. Very interesting army style.
