No, I mean B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix comparison, citing you don't like psychedelic guitar. What's that supposed to mean? Hendrix simply discovered that you can create other, different sounds with an electric guitar and an amp than those people were accustomed to. It's no differnt from playing a trumpet and discovering that using a mute you get a different sound.

Hendrix is a genius. Red House (genius as in take tradition to a higher level) or Foxy Lady (genius as in what you speak of above) are all there, but he also disconnects while doing his genius. Anyway, I'm a little tipsy, now I listen to music, we'll discuss later.

Edit: I didn say I dont like it btw, I said I didnt prefer it, the context was, despite the hierarchy of my preferences, THIS psyhcedeilc guitar performance is capturing.

We may have different definitions for what "psychedelic" means. MOSTLY, I do NOT consider Hendrix as primarily psychedelic. There IS stuff in his work that certainly qualifies, as there is stuff qualifying as "jazzy" and "funky", but I consider them tendrils growing from his foundation of a very heavy kind of blues. (There is nothing psychedelic in the Band of Gypsies.) If you look at the Are You Experienced debut, the classic song is "Red House". There are 4 songs qualifying as having strong "psychedelic elements", (Love or Confusion, I don't Live Today, 3rd Stone and the title track), but there is a lot of experimenting with engineering stuff, backwards guitars and so on. It's psychedelic, but in a spacey way (not so much in a drugged-out way, if you know what I mean).

For me, this is "psychedelic" in every respect, but you don't need a mass of amps or effects to be psychedelic.

I took some time to think about that, but I'm still not sure I understand your "disconnect" right. IF I understand you right, I would disagree and replace "disconnect" with "transcend".
Of course I agree with you that Hendrix was a genius; I've been in awe about him, since I first heard him more than 45 years ago, and he has never ceased to astonish me. If, for example, you listen to Rainy Day Dream Away and then switch directly to Still Raining Still Dreaming ... I'm at a loss of words how good that is, especially when listening to the Kramer remastered Family authorized version. And don't let me start about Machine Gun ...

Anyway, as it happens I've had the doubtful pleasure to see B.B. King live, as part of U2's Lovetown tour, and I can tell you it was the worst concert I ever went to. Of course that wasn't due to him, mostly. Apart of the sound engineers took an hour to get the sound halfway palatable and the whole show lasted only a good 90 minutes including encore, considering that B.B. was in his mid-sixties at the time, I really wasn't impressed. But ok, that may have been due to the sound being AWFUL.

Not exactly, to me, transcend is when you do it exactly right, disconnect is when you're just about to transcend and you get lost in the experience. Dying very young, Hendrix never had a chance to mature and he lived in the wildest times, so I'll give him that but sometimes he loses it.

If we talk live, I think you know how he came from, touring with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard and Curtis Knight, which are a lot about "showmanship".
Also, touring as such in those times was a way more grueling thing than today, things having really changed. There wasn't money in touring (touring would promote records, and money was made with selling records, the opposite of today). A lot of concert were joined events (his first real "tour" was with Cat Stevens and Engelbert Humperdinck, joined later by the Walker Brothers), and a gig would last 40 minutes to an hour, but you may have 2 or even 3 shows a day.
Also, transport wasn't the best.

I wouldn't say that Hendrix wasn't interested much in playing live - he just was keen on working in the studio on new material, and touring, meaning performing the same stuff over and over again, made that difficult.

There are exceptional concerts, though. The Fillmore East concerts with the Band of Gypsies for example. Winterland. Hawaii. Woodstock, certainly. Berkeley. I think the Isle of Wight concert is killer as well, because, well, you don't often see people announcing that they will play until booed off the stage (and it's a very long concert for those times and being a festival).

But, yes, he was just starting (to become a serious musician). But in his short time he still moved more than most everyone else.

Called my father to celebrate his birthday, I said what's up, he said they're listening to "When I'm 64" with mom, I said "64, but you are not that old now, are you?" He said, "oh I am and if you subtract 24 you are getting older, too with the same constant."

Love time, it's gold
