Not horrible but those synthesizer sounds always feel like “not getting it” to me.

To elabotate, Pink Floyd or Parov Stelar use synthesizers, Depeche Mode does it. But they have a thing of their own. The road above, works better with this sound: Link

I don'r know. That's the live version of the original, written by Mingo Lewis, a percussionist, who had worked with Carlos Santana, then with Al Dimeola, but he wrote it in 1977 when part of the Tubes (he would record it with Al Dimeola in 1982.
The Tubes version is remarkable because of 2 things. Tempo, based on the main motive, and the climax of the song, Mr. Steens guitar solo.
The snythesizer is just something the Tubes, as a theatrical act, would use as a tool to create the sounds they wanted to.

Late 70’s, early 80’s... Back when people thought the synthesizer was going to be “the next electric guitar.” But it wasnt and then we had “the unplugged” phase in the early 90’s. Because it really, really wasn’t.

Tiger Lillies - Alone with the Moon
Tiger Lillies - Alone
- Send in the Clowns
- Miss Otis Regrets
^those were good, serious songs. if you're not into their sense of humor, i'd recommend those instead. they are rather beautiful.
but now, back to our regularly scheduled tiger lillies:
- Hamsters
- Waiters

Good bad and ugly by some Danish orchestra, how Morricone combines everything just by choosing the right instrument: Awesome, you never notice how much thought he must have put into it, it’s the soundtrack that plays here and there, until you see the orchestra.

marilyn manson - portrait of an american family
his best album, next to "antichrist superstar".
i really have to thank trent reznor for how this album turned out. it could have been a drastically different-sounding album upon release(i've heard the initial takes, and they're nowhere near the finished product, in quality and overall feel), and manson's career would have never taken off the way it did(he never would have made it to antichrist superstar, in other words). thankfully, reznor was able to show manson how to vastly improve the substandard "spooky kids"-era sound; he took manson's vibe, and fine-tuned it to a sharp little point that he was then able to shank the music world with.
