Turkey, a new coup?
Nobody is sure how effective it is as of now, the news are not accurate but the attempt is for certain, we are having another military coup right now.
The military chief of staff officially released a statement that they are taking over and that all international pacts are still valid.
The prime minister also confirmed the attempt, adding they will not let this happen.

How will they now allow that to happen when the military is basically the most powerful force of a country? They could nuke everything and everyone to the ground, yes? Isn't the government powerless now?

There can be a conflict among the military, it is also reported that some of the generals are held hostage in the ...... I don't know how to translate the name of the building, think of it like the Pentagon of Turkey.

A sect in the military, nobody is sure of their capability yet, but there are gunfights between the police and the military.
A military coup is never something to desire but the way AKP is/was going authoritarian, you wont see me crying over them if the attempt succeeds.

What a week. First Nice and now this...
I don't know how this will go, I only hope the coup ringleaders are really about 'democracy'. From what I recall Erdogan is no short of Islamist, so this would be for the better as his actions were considered dangerous to worlds stability. I wonder how Turkish people will react, will they "go out to the street"?
Then again, when a military group starts to rule in a country which army is one of the strongest in the world this does not bode well...

Nope, he's constantly on video calls on a phone, talking in mainstream (private) TV chanells, he asked everyone to march the streets for democracy and that he himself will be in the streets soon enough, too.
I cant think of a worse scenario than him, coming out as a hero from this! He is a tactical genius when it comes to turning such situations into his advantage.

Not a single station reported that here and there are dozens of them. State stations went black anyway.
