I might have misunderstood the Creature Portal

I think that if you buy the Mantises you use up the allowance of creatures.

I have great respect for Waspworts, also for Water elementals but I would rather have Mantises

Are you saying you can buy both?

Agreeing!

Hey there, yeah im new but i think thunder did a great job all the same, now i know this may sound well abit.. strange, but i tend to like my hydras alot, specialy with either bloodfrenzy or slayer on, with slayer it can take out (often) 2 stacks of opponents lvl 4 creatures with minimal losses!!

Thunder, I don't doubt your combat skills the least either, I was just fooling around, making a point out of a statistic paradox.

Istanbul makes a good point, though. You will rarely have fights only involving L4 creatures.

But good job anyway

Play well

Basically the first creature that hits you in the round will be with a retaliation until the next round.
Some creatures will wait but the sec round dont start until they make thier move.
Plus I rather use the hydras & bone dragons no retaliation then getting hurt for a retaliation.

How come that hydra defeats the dragon golem when you test it againt the golem but loses to the same dragon golem when you test the golem against the hydra? It makes no sense....

And why do you need 3 or 6 of each unit to test them in 1vs1? You should use 1 BD and 2 or 3 of the other creatures, according to their growth. Not 3cs6 or 6vs6.

I don't mean to sound harsh or anything and I honestly apologize if I did, but I feel that this is not a fair, and/or conclusive test.

Also, I think the Hydra is the best 4th level creature in H4. Have you played against a Hydra with bless, vampiric touch, bloodlust, cat reflexes, dragon strength, giant strength and slayer cast on it? Oh dear!

Thunder said:
So I did put together a test map to decide which creature is the best. I have to say that there were some luck factors like morale and battlefield obstacles included. The battles were fought on dirt (neutral terrain and no movement penalty).

BLACK DRAGONS

Macigal immunity of Black Dragons ensures that Lightning from the Thunderbirds won't affect them, neither does the spells from Faerie Dragons or ability of Bone Dragons and Ice Demons. Breath attack didn't help in these fights.

3 Black Dragons versus 6 Devils: Victory, 1 Black Dragon remains.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 1 Black Dragon remains.
3 Black Dragons versus 9 Thunderbirds: Victory, 2 Black Dragons remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 3 Angels remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 2 Behemoths remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 12 Champions: Victory, 1 Black Dragon remains.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 2 Black Dragons remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Titans: Victory, 1 Black Dragon remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Victory, 3 Black Dragons remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Phoenixes: Defeat, 4 Phoenixes remain.
3 Black Dragons versus 6 Hydras: Defeat, 2 Hydras remain.

Victories: 14
Defeats: 8

TITANS

Chaos Ward worked efficiently against Chaos creatures. Their power overall has dropped dramatically when compared to HoMM2 or HoMM3, where they were among the top creatures.

6 Titans versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 3 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 4 Behemoths remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Bone Dragons: Defeat, 5 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Phoenixes: Victory, 4 Titans remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 4 Devils remain.
6 Titans versus 9 Thunderbirds, Defeat, 6 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 5 Titans remain.
5 Titans (Yes, only 5 as Black Dragons attacked right after Hydras) versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory (Morale!), 2 Titans remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Golem Dragons: Defeat, 2 Golem Dragons remain.
6 Titans versus 12 Champions: Defeat, 4 Champions remain.
6 Titans versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 2 Angels remain.

Victories: 4
Defeats: 18

HYDRAS

Although Hydra had bad results, it fared surprisingly well compared to the fact that  their area attack was of no use. So their results did show only a flawed image of their true strength.

6 Hydras versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 4 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 5 Angels remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 2 Devils remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 1 Hydra remains.
6 Hydras versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 3 Hydras remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 6 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 3 Behemoths remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Titans: Defeat, 2 Titans remain.
6 Hydras versus 6 Phoenixes: Defeat, 2 Phoenixes remain (due to rebirth).
6 Hydras versus 12 Champions: Defeat , 8 Champions remain.
6 Hydras versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 2 Black Dragons remain.

Victories: 6
Defeats: 16

DRAGON GOLEMS

Mechanical ability worked well against Bone Dragons as their Fear ability won't work on Dragon Golems, and thus the Dragon Golems were able to retaliate normally. Negate First Strike ability was handy against Champions. I'm surprised of the bad results against Angels.

6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 3 Dragon Golems remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 1 Devil remains.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 3 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 5 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Phoenixes: Defeat, 2 Phoenixes remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 2 Behemoths remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory, 1 Dragon Golem remains.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Titans: Victory, 3 Dragon Golems remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 4 Dragon Golems remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 6 Angels remain.
6 Dragon Golems versus 12 Champions: Victory, 4 Dragon Golems remain.

Victories: 9
Defeats: 13

ANGELS

Not so powerful as they were in HoMM3 anymore. They are able to resurrect themselves now. The ability I used a lot.

6 Angels versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 1 Behemoth remains.
6 Angels versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 1 Devil remains.
6 Angels versus 6 Bone Dragons: Defeat, 4 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Angels versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 2 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Angels versus 6 Phoenixes: Victory, 2 Angels remain.
6 Angels versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 6 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Angels versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 3 Angels remain.
6 Angels versus 6 Titans: Victory, 4 Angels remain.
6 Angels versus 12 Champions: Defeat, 2 Champions remain.
6 Angels versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory, 3 Angels remain.
6 Angels versus  Dragon Golems: Victory, 5 Angels remain.

Victories: 11
Defeats: 11

DEVILS

Devils got some lucky victories due to the icing ability of Ice Demons (against Faerie Dragons was one), which Devils are able to summon. Life Ward ensured almost certain victory against Life creatures.

6 Devils versus 6 Phoenixes : Victory, 3 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 1 Black Dragon remains.
6 Devils versus 6 Angels: Victory, 2 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus 12 Champions: Victory, 2 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus  6 Hydras: Defeat, 3 Hydras remain.
6 Devils versus 6 Dragon Golems: Defeat, 3 Dragon Golems remain.
6 Devils versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Victory, 2 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus 6 Titans: Victory, 3 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 4 Behemoths remain.
6 Devils versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 2 Devils remain.
6 Devils versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 6 Thunderbirds remain.

Victories: 12
Defeats: 10

CHAMPIONS

Their numbers helped them most. Jousting bonus and First Strike were also factors that helped them to victory.

12 Champions versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 4 Thunderbirds remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 3 Devils remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 4 Faerie Dragons remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Bone Dragons: Defeat, 3 Bone Dragons remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Phoenixes: Victory, 5 Champions remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Behemoths: Victory, 2 Champions remain.
12 Champions versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 2 Black Dragons remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Titans: Victory, 4 Champions remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 7 Champions remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Dragon Golems: Defeat, 3 Dragon Golems remain.
12 Champions versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 4 Angels remain.

Victories: 8
Defeats: 14

BONE DRAGONS

Their Fear ability functions like the no retalition ability, except that it won't work on mechanical creatures or creatures immune to magic. They also took less damage from Titans shots, so the Fear ability didn't backfire against them.

6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Phoenix: Victory, 4 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 1 Black Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Hydras: Defeat, 3 Hydras remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Angels: Victory, 4 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 9 Thunderbirds: Victory, 2 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 12 Champions: Defeat, 6 Champions remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 5 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Dragon Golems: Defeat, 3 Dragon Golems remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Titans: Victory, 4 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat: 3 Behemoths remain.
6 Bone Dragons versus 6 Devils: Victory, 4 Bone Dragons remain.

Victories: 9
Defeats: 13

FAERIE DRAGONS

Bow before the majesty of Faeries!  Only creatures that they didn't have chances were Black Dragons. And now you can wonder why I think Faerie Dragons are superior choice over Phoenixes. Their Magic Mirror made Thunderbird's ability to backfire.

6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Phoenix: Defeat, 1 Phoenix remains.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Devils: Victory, 4 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Angels: Victory, 2 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 5 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 12 Champions: Victory, 4 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 9 Thunderbirds: Victory, 5 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 5 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Behemoths: Victory, 6 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Titans: Victory, 4 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Black Dragons: Defeat, 3 Black Dragons remain.
6 Faerie Dragons versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 6 Faerie Dragons remain.

Victories: 18
Defeats: 4

PHOENIXES

Rebirth ability helped them to victory surprisingy seldom. Fire resistance helped against Black Dragons, a lot. Breath attack was of no use, once again.

6 Phoenixes versus 6 Devils: Victory, 1 Phoenix remains.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Bone Dragons: Defeat,  3 Bone Dragons remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Angels: Defeat, 2 Angels remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 5 Thunderbirds remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 12 Champions: Victory, 2 Phoenixes remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Behemoths: Defeat, 4 Behemoths remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 3 Phoenixes remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Titans: Victory, 3 Phoenixes remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory, 4 Phoenixes remain.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 1 Faerie Dragon remains.
6 Phoenixes versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 3 Phoenixes remain.

Victories: 10
Defeats: 12

BEHEMOTHS

Behemoths ability to do massive damage ensured their way to second trophy. They fared surprisingly well.

6 Behemoths versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 1 Black Dragon remains.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Hydras: Defeat, 1 Hydra remains.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Angels: Victory, 3 Behemoths remain.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Phoenixes: Victory, 1 Behemoth remains.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 6 Faerie Dragons remain.
6 Behemoths versus 12 Champions: Victory, 4 Behemoths remain.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Titans: Victory, 2 Behemoths remain.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Devils: Victory, 4 Behemoths remain.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 1 Behemoth remains.
6 Behemoths versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 3 Behemoths remain.
6 Behemoths versus 9 Thunderbirds: Defeat, 1 Thunderbird remains.

Victories: 15
Defeats: 7

THUNDERBIRDS

Thunderbirds and Behemoths were both without the breeding pit bonuses, and this is engouraging fact for might fanatics as they both seem to be rather good. Thunderbirds' lightning ability was nasty.

9 Thunderbirds versus 3 Black Dragons: Defeat, 1 Black Dragon remains.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Angels: Victory, 4 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Hydras: Victory, 4 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 12 Champions: Victory, 3 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Phoenixes: Victory, 5 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Dragon Golems: Victory, 7 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Faerie Dragons: Defeat, 5 Faerie Dragons remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Titans:  Victory, 3 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Devils: Defeat, 2 Devils remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Bone Dragons: Victory, 5 Thunderbirds remain.
9 Thunderbirds versus 6 Behemoths: Victory, 3 Thunderbirds remain.

Victories: 16
Defeats: 6

MANTISES

Binding ability halves the damage the binded creatures do and makes them immobile. Great ability against Champions.

6 Mantises versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory, 4 Mantises remain.
6 Mantises versus 6 Devils: Defeat (due to the icing effect), 3 Devils remain.
6 Mantises versus 6 Sea Monsters: Defeat, 2 Sea Monsters remain.

SEA MONSTERS

Devouring ability works on everything. Sorta like old Gorgons' stare. They swallow everything, especially Black Dragons.

6 Sea Monsters versus 3 Black Dragons: Victory, 3 Sea Monsters remain.
6 Sea Monsters versus 6 Hydras: Defeat, 3 Hydras remain.

The best creatures in game are the ones who are the fastest, excluding bone dragons because of morale.

Usually fast creatures move more on adv map, and fast creatures act first in combat.

Therefore, the best level4 creatures in game in my opinion (and many others)is the black dragon and phoenix.

I do not like those 1 vs 1 duels, in the game itself there are no fights like that and in all other conditions each unit has other impact.

Computer does not do it, but  just by moving titan to the second line (especially one of the corners) and use wait (or better shot) it guarantees victory against creatures like behemoths...

My ranking is based on my general feelings, thoughts and conclusions made during my experience with the game + te not I give (how unit is useful and what provides):

megadragon:
+ the strongest uni in the game, not doubt about that
+ His stats are countered by rather low numbers (hand of death and stone gaze is extremely effective, same as sea monster' ability) in which he appears and no dwelling
+ magic immunity  give additional
- As neutral without dwelling- there will be no mark for that one

frienzed gnasher:
+ great stats (hp, defense, attack, speed)
+ one good ability (magic immunity)
- and also one bad ability (berserk)
- Overall... rather average
- lack of control means big casualties and can wreck up our strategy. As opponent- extremely frustrating, hard to deal with and hard to kill due to stats and mobility. 7/10

Catapult- sounds cool but is rather average
+/- Great abilities but at the same time completely lack of mobility (the last unit tat will participate in action, pain on the adventure map)
- and also it is construct so it does not befefit from life magic and peerks...
+ Extremely good at sieges
- extremely bad in melee combat
overall, 5+- 6/10

Dark Champion-
+ solid unit with great mobility, stats and a bit too low health. + Terror is outstanding, especially for Necropolis that is rather melee army
+  undead is well welcomed, charge provides great havoc among enemies...
- Regeneration s good only in smaller skrimishes, the health could be higher.
Overall, Absolute must for every army (not only Necro)- just split this unit to gain most of it. In larger fights this is the unit that shines more than the others (and what 1vs1 duels do not show) 9/10

evl sorceress:
+ great mobility (bot on the battlefield and on the adventure map) and spell give player massive control of the battle and allow to disturb and harm enemy before he will achieve our troops
+ good spells (massive damage, control, lots of mana
- the major problem with this unit is its low stats and ridiculously low health. Magic immunity torns away sorceress
+ Great in sieges
- lack of some kind of blind spell or stun
Overall 8+/10

gargantuan:
+ astnonishing stats, especally for shooter- 300 hp, high attack and defense
+ great abilities, wrecks havoc with area attack and can shoot twice
+ good melee (only a bit lack of damage
+ at sieges is extremely effective
- only problems are lack of speed/ initiative (one of the last units to attack), although good mobility
- can be purchased only in his dwelling
Overall, one the strongest 4th level in the game (not counting megadragon that is beoynd all others). Really good in almost every  10/10

Sea monster:
+ great stats
+ lot of health
+ quite fast good range
+ one of the best abilities in the game
- no dwelling
Very dangeruoes unit that can match any other melee. It is just very though melee unit with no weakness (apart lack of some immunities). Otherwise, nth special. 9+/10

Haven:
a) champion:
+ great mobility
+ high growth rate
+ amazing abilities
+ even minor spells make him huge benefits
- stats are on of the worst among 4th units
- terrain strongly afects his usefulness (especially swamps)
Overall, extremely good unit that, with his skills, gains more than the others with good spells. What is more, charge and first strike used properly, can guarantee kill a whole stack with one blow. 9/10

b) angel
+ good stats, solid health
+ mobility
+ flies (only in Life)
+ ressurection
- in fight not spectacualar
- his speed and Life's lineup mean that he will be without strong enough support
overall, good unit but he is neither damage dealer nor tank (and weekly2  angels give less health than 4 champions). Resurrection is good (he can even resurrect himself) but at the same time he does not get that much from spells and does not give that much in terms of stategy and tactics. 8/10

Preserve:

c) phoenix
+ outstanding stats- hp, defense and attack
+ great damage
+ superb mobility
+ amazing skills (fire resistance, self- ressurect, flier, fire- breath)
- no weaknesses (apart from bizzare design)
All in all, perfect unit that has everything that is needed and gives everything that we demand. Preserve has enough support units to protect and help phoenix. What is more, if the player gets proper spells (a bit hard due to number of summonings), like dragon strenth, stregth of the giant of snake's strike, phoenix can become unstoppable 10/10

d) faerie dragon
+ great spells
+ good variety of spells
+ mobility
+ solid heath and defense
+ extremely good at sieges
+ magic mirror
- terrible design ;?
- awful attack and melee damage

solid unit that deals great amount of damage and guarantees battle control. Also eliminating neutral is really easy and fast. the problem with that unit is that it quickly fades in battle when it is under heavy fire and is useless when enemy is immune to magic. It is worth splitting in smaller stacks to get most of it. overall 8+/10

Asylum:

e) hydra
+ very good stats, hgh amount of health
+ amazing abilities- no retaliation, attacking multiple enemies at once
+ good max damage
- bad minimum damage
- average or even a bit low movement and speed
Amazing creature that benefits the most in larger battles when it is one of the most powerful (if even not the most powerful) units. It benefits great from spells and chaos provides some of the strongest buffs in the game (cat's reflex, first strike, bloodthirst). The problem for this unit are spells that slower it even more, curses and  mind spells. Apart from that, it is really good. 8+/10

f) black dragon
+ best stats of all 4th units (no counting megadragon)
+ magic immunity
+ flier
+ moblility
+ supreme in melee combat
+ great against mages
- magic immunity
- low growth
- cost
A bit overrated unit that is both irritating then is part of our army (no possility to vuff it- and chaos has one of the best buffs) and when it is n the enemies army- constant danger. Due to mobility it seems that it is more useful and versatile than hydra but low amount of black dragons and not possibility to buff it means that he fades in larger battles (but still is reat thrat to everyone). Good to take shooters and mages in first round. 8+/10

Necropolis:
g) bone dragon
+ stats, high health
+ good abilities
+ undead
+ flier
- not good to counter shooters
Great unit that is solid damage dealer and tank. Gains good benefits from death magic and as undead is even more tanky (+ skeletal makes him even more hard to "kill") that he seems to be. His only weakness is the faact that he s bad in countering shooters and preventing them from shooting. 9/10

h) devil
+ high attack/ defense
+ good abilities
+ mobility, teleport ability, speed
+ great in eliminating hero and spellcasters at the beginning of the battle
+ great at sieges
- bit too low health
- is not undead (can be a problem due to death magic)
Solid creature that gives outstanding mobility- he will often start as first creature and his teleport will allow the player to eliminate all nasty spellcasters n the enemy;s army. The problem is that devil is rather average melee on its own and will not last too long. wthout support, he will be torn away. Summoning demons means that he will loose whole turn on that. he also does not benetif that much fro mdeath magic as bone dragon. 8/10

Academy:
i) titan
+ solid stats
+ good abilities
+ quite good mobility and speed
+ solid health
- none (well, amybe lack of known immunity to mind spells
Really good unit that has no weaknesses on its own- as shooter he is quite healthy and has good defence. He has good damage and chaos  ward is really good due to variety of spells and units. What is more, he is good in almost every army and never disappoints. t fits Academy's lineup perfectly and benefits both from tactic and from spells. 10/10

j) dragon golem
+ great mobility
+ amazing abilities making him one of the dtreongest melee
+ construct
- a bt low health
A very good creature that is one of the fastest and deadliest creatures in the game. the problem with it is that without life magic, it is hard to buff it with order magic. Also there are not that many units that will support dragon golem in the front *golden goelms are too slow, nagas- noone will take her) so 220 hp is a bit low. 9/10

Stronghold:
k) beemoth
+ good stats
+ solid health
+ great damage
- mobility and speed
- average hp points
- ability is rather silly, slightly higer damage
huge disappointment when comapred to hoM 3 behemoth. too slugish and slow, good in melee combat but has no ability to do anything. He is just a damage dealer with rather average hp. 6/10

j) thunderbird:
+ speed and mobility
+ growth
+ lighning strike
+ flier
- a bit low hp and stats
Much better than behemoth- high numbers of it mean gigh damage that is strenghten by lighning strike. Good to taking spellcasters and shooters. mobility is just what stronghold needed and on its onw thunderbird is really solid unit. Only downside of it is the fact that without support it will quickly perish. 9/10

I wouldn't say 10/10 for titan. he has no severe weakness, but in melee he is still inferior to most tiers 4. in another hand, in defending castles, he is probably a 11/10 or more.

you forgot mantis, imo a 9-10/10 unit. but still inferior to phoenix.

Yeah I agre- I have probably exaggerated titan (well, he is my favourite creature in HoMM 4) cause he is clearly worse as unit than gargantuan, pheonix and also sea monster. At the same time he just fits Academy perfectly- if better, than he would be op. 9/10 is more fair... but  he is just a man his faction needs (dragon golem, as great as it is, does  not).

Mantis is outstanding, 9/10 is fair- quite low hp for melee and so so damage are only weaknesses. But with some Preserve's or Life's spells (quite easy access to some low luvel and good buffs) is amazing
